planning to get redmi 3s 2gb/16gb, anyone using this? Is it good enough for normal usage? Not for playing games. Installing facebook, whatsapp, instagram, snapchat and basically a lot of other social media apps. Facebook and messenger itself already taking up like 450mb of memory in the background.

redmi 3s is a great phone for around rm400 price. Only issue is why mi malaysia is so slow in bringing the product here and even if they do, price is so much more expensive.

users have to buy from importers who seems to be able to still make profit margin selling at much cheaper price. This kind of trend is understandable in the 2000s. But it is now 2016 and it should not be happening.

Mi have really bad marketing. No wonder others like huawei, oppo and vivo have overtaken them.

Anyone using Redmi 3s 16gb and with Global ROM? Does the fingerprint sensor works? Cause India 3s 16gb don't have fingerprint sensor, thanks
*
of course the FP have to work, right? Else why would xiaomi include the FP into the phone?

Having said that...it is only half working. When your lock your phone, after some time the FP will not work. You have to manually unlock the phone and then only it will work. After you lock the phone for long time it will not work again.

either the guy is paid to do the review or he really sucks at reviewing and only want to put positive stuffs.

1) "the capacitive touch buttons is not backlit but they should for the price of this phone" ----wtf? this phone is so cheap already and he is saying it is expensive enough that they should put in backlit???

2) no problem at all with the fingerprint?? It works on and off. Sometimes need to unlock manually then only it works. And when a message like whatsapp is on the screen the fp will not work until the message is closed.

3) really good camera? does this guy ever use a phone with really good camera? this redmi 3s camera is a joke. focus is slow and pictures are bad in lowlight.

4) playing games no lag at all? sure the snapdragon 430 and adreno 503 is great but it is not up to "no lag at all" level. Maybe playing games like candy crush is fine but gpu intensive games without lag AT ALL???

I am not saying this phone sucks. But for the price you pay actually it is really decent. But is not far from being described in the review.

hmm, if i just want to root the phone
redmi 3s, what is the procedure bro?
not going to flash rom but just root
*
JUST to unlock the phone you need to unlock the bootloader.

And to unlock the bootloader you need to apply from xiaomi.

And to run the unlock app, you need to run it on china dev rom. It doesn't work on english rom.

And once you successfull unlock the bootloader you need to use fastboot method to flash back to global rom.

And once you flash back to global rom, you need to run the unlock bootloader again.

And once you done that only you can JUST install temporary TWRP and ROOT the phone.

p/s : I tot u edy seen the above post...well, if ur unit comes with global ROM out-of-the-box , you can't runaway from Unlock Bootloader in order to root...unless you take the risk to follow YouTube below:

*
Personally I would avoid using those tools to root any phone. The dev can inject any malware into your phone after they unroot it. This is a very good method for those hackers to inject malware into your phones.

The convensional method of using TWRP and inject the supersu into the phone also have risks but it is less likely to have malware than these rooting software.

The choice is yours.

so what is the advice?
i got my phone full backup inlcuding all wifi username password and games status if the phone rooted i can direct restore back fully mah
*
Steps already provided by azhar.

In short...based on my adventure with redmi note 3 rooting (which took me like 2 weeks).

1) apply for bootloader unlock through xiaomi website (en.miui.com). Make sure to use the same account used for registering mi cloud on the phone.

2) wait like 3 - 14 days until you get approval SMS from xiaomi.

3) use EDL method to flash rom to china dev rom (cause unlock bootloader first time only can be done through china dev rom)

4) run unlock bootloader

5) use FASTBOOT method to flash back to global rom

6) run unlock bootloader

7) run temporary TWRP and ROOT supersu.

Goodluck!! You need a lot of them.... smile.gif

omg 3-14 days@@

so what i need to do its download
global rom x1
china dev rom x1
some root kit right

samsung was easier, so much easiler
*
also miflash tool for flashing the phone. Some adb tools and drivers. Also need to boot into disable driver signature more if you are running windows 8 and above.

It is not easy task and xiaomi really made it hard. Not that much work with other vendors. That's why I didn't want to root the phone until I cannot tahan already. Wanted to install some root software.

Nope. Methodology wise it's about the same. The real PITA is the approval wait times. Waited 44 days for mine  bangwall.gif . But well worth it once you got it.
*
does other phone require you to flash to another rom to unlock bootloader then flash it back?

did other phone's flashing tool latest version does not work in EDL flashing and had to use older version?

the thing is, so many people are rooting their xiaomi phones and posting guides about it but not a single posting or blog site explain in details from beginning until the end. I virtually have to go through like tons of postings to get things right.

Hi guys,

any idea how to unlock bootloader for RN3...

i already got the permission to unlock but their software failed to recognized my phone....
*
you need to flash to china dev rom first then only you can unlock the bootloader. After than only you can flash back to global stable and then unlock the bootloader again without problem. This is a lot of work and a lot of risk for those not familiar with the steps. Not to mention the various software and drivers you need to download where some new version does not work. Have to use old version of miflash. Good luck.

other than that , ok lar, battery not tat save as they mentioning, still droping also

lol..you must be large phone user. For me, 5" phone is perfect size for me. I prefer to use my phone 1 handed for things like whatsapp and checking messages and so on. 5.5 is a bit too big to use with 1 hand.

can i know is miui 8 for redmi 3s (2gb) good enough for usage? Buggy?

cause I don't want to upgrade if it's buggy. Anyone tried musical.ly on miui 8 and does it work? miui 7 had some issue previously but after some updated in musical.ly it is working now. Though not perfect but at least works. Don't wanna upgrade and found out it's not working.

Thanks.

Hi guys, i just bought a Grey Redmi 3S 32GB from Lazada last week when the price was RM599. I think i got a great deal for the phone, and after using it for about a week, i'm very satisfied. The only thing that's been bugging me is this sticker on the back.

My question is, is this thing important? Can I just peel it off and finally enjoy that smooth sexy metal back? It's quite hard to peel off, so i'm afraid if it will leave some sticky marks. Any advice?

And btw, i haven't updated to MIUI 8 yet. Been hearing about some bugs and whatnot, but is it really that bad? Do the pros outweigh the cons? I'm tempted to update it, but I don't want to break anything that works. And so far, everything seems to be working fine. But those new features like multi screen/ dual apps and others sound very enticing...hmm..
Thanks.
*
that's the first thing I do when I got my redmi 3 and redmi note 3. Tear the bloody sticker along with help of stickytape.

Bought 3/32 from Lazada RM 4xx after discount, superb phone with cheap price
*
yup..it's a very reasonable phone to buy for low end users. I was not sure whether to buy this as the SoC is SD430 which is the lowest tier for SDs. After looking at some reviews, decided to get it. And was surprised how smooth it is. It especially helps when the GPU is Adreno 505 which makes gaming quite a pleasant play. Not saying that there are no lags but for that price, it's great.

i have a redmi 3s 2gb and it is working fine. No major issue. Not sure why would the 3gb version is any different.

Whatever it is, why still want to go for redmi 3? It is already replaced by redmi 3s which have better specs at same price.

MIUI ram management too aggressive.
*
miui have their own ram management and optimization. If you switch on developer mode, you can change the ram management to low, mid and high. Low will have max compatibility with app. I have them at high as it will maximize memory usage but apps will crash more often. There is also another option for miui optimization. I am not sure what this does by default it is on.

Anyway, what I mentioned above is about miui. It applies to all mi phones.

ps. I still hate miui. Changing to cynogenmod one it works perfectly in redmi.

Is there anyway to downgrade MIUI?
*
you can download any old rom and use EDL to flash it. But that also means data will be erase.

QUOTE(shapa2011 @ Nov 23 2016, 06:57 AM)
Why want to downgrade ?
*
cause new firmware might have certain bugs. MIUI 8 is still same android version. Only some change in the UI. However, certain apps does not work properly in MIUI 8. Since the important app that I am using is working fine in MIUI 7, then I will keep it as is. Don't want to risk it not working after upgrade to MIUI 8.
