I think he means adjusting the height of the pickups.

Distance of pickups to the strings can produce different type of sounds.

If you pay attention to your pickups, their heights are different and the bridge pickup is a bit slanted to one direction.

If you're the adventurous type maybe you can make your own pickups.

I think i'll settle with adjusting the string action/height instead should a need come one day.

You can buy one and drill holes yourself to install it, or just use some double sided tape to keep it on.

Either that or get some cardboard, real cheap, cut out the shape of a pickguard and use thin double sided tapes and stick it on.

Try playing away from the computer/TV. Certain electronics can cause interference.
use a non-fluorescent light in your room.

Use an AVR with proper grounding.

Make sure you're grounded too, remove the damn carpet.
