unfortunately, local version has limited 4k stuff.

hope they improve fast enough, and w/o raising price!

i am quite impressed with the stability of it with unifi30, wifi.

even for 4k videos, there was not a single jerk on the several checked over a couple of hours.

hd videos come out very good too - 1080p, upscaled by tv, very good.
the netflix experience left me with one side thought: with such technology, how long can video shops like speedy last? tongue.gif

Is 30Mbps line subscription necessary for Netflix 4k content? Anybody with 20Mbps line that is successfully watching 4k from Netflix?

it is possible 20mbps or even less can do, if there are no other users, line is stable.

also, the file size varies from video to video.

officially:

I'm aware of Netflix's 25Mbps requirement. But that's probably by US standards... Or is it not and that it has some kind of safety factors?

I think file sizes don't matter as long as the bit rate is reasonable for streaming.

Recommendations are just that, the minimum required as set by the provider, in this case, Netflix.. To them, that's the minimum they expect consumers to have in order to have a decent UHD experience & not have to blame Netflix later if a steady UHD stream isn't achieved. So having 30Mbps will be helpful. Besides, if we are talking about TM's Unifi plans, IMO, the Advance 30Mbps plan Is cheaper than the older VIP20 plan or incase downgrading incurs fees, perhaps consider the Advance 50Mbps plan... It's more than enough to simultaneously handle Netflix UHD + some throttled torrenting and or YouTube 1080p on other connected devices.

Thanks for the reply. I'm currently on Maxis 20Mbps. Paying cheaper under Maxis One Plan. No contract with them anymore. I'm thinking about increasing broadband speed and probably downgrading my Astro. Jump back to Unifi or stay with Maxis... hmm.gif

Well, it's up to us now to prove them wrong!
And it ain't easy though sweat.gif

My free trial ended and I did not extend my subscription.

For me, the only tempting proposition to subscribe to Netflix is 4k. Content wise, it's nothing compared to what I can download and view offline. Will definitely give it a serious thought once my TV and bandwidth is ready for it.

android boxes... common boxes can only do sd, not even hd. besides nvidia shield and amazon fire tv which are netflix certified.
this is the thing... if u do not pay for a reliable and workable vpn/dns, u can't get the good stuff.
*
I believe having Nvidia Shield or Amazon Fire TV Android boxes alone is not enough for Netflix 4K. Your TV's HDMI need to support HDCP 2.2.

house of cards s04 and daredevil s02 - both excellent, enjoyed them tremendously. thumbup.gif

I have both in my NAS already. HOC S04 in 2160p and DD S02 in 1080p cool2.gif But with only a 1080p TV to watch. cry.gif

Is DD S02 in 2160p? I only have 2160p version of S01.

Anyway, Kodi in my Nvidia Sheild plays the 4K material from my NAS with no hickups. Just not enough time to sit down and watch.

ya, of course. the tv, cables must be compliant to get 4k.

if tv is 1080p, 1080p is what u will get.

yes, i think dds02 is available in uhd4k.

I don't know if it's correct or not but Kodi says the playback resolution is 4K. Just recently watched Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword Of Destiny in 4K. Not bad.

means kodi say it can deliver.

yr tv can't. biggrin.gif

u must try practicing certain things are off limits for home minister. laugh.gif

Many things off limits already... But the TV unfortunately fall in the purvue of one of the home minister as she uses it more than I do. So if the home minister thinks there is no need to upgrade, then budget not approved. laugh.gif

I found out the hard way when I added the Yamaha soundbar last year... I told her how she always complains about not being able to hear conversations clearly from the TV and that the soundbar would be the solution. Of course it took a while convincing but when she heard how better the sound was, she just kept quiet. It also helped that pointed to her how cheap I got it from the Yamaha warehouse sale and I guess she conceded that it was a "necessary" buy.

So the same kind of reasons would need to come into play to get a 4K TV. bangwall.gif
