Actually it depends on your preference. Some people don't mind gaming at low/medium graphics quality and some people always wants ultra. The point I want to make is, it really doesn't justify to turn on AA at 4K resolution weighing the amount of improvement vs performance (FPS) that you get The other thing you want to consider is whether you prefer to game at 4K @ 60Hz which gives you beautiful detail and depth compared to 1440p @ 144Hz which gives you ultra smooth gaming.
Especially if you're an FPS gamer and tried 144Hz, you probably will feel lousy gaming at 60Hz. It feels like a huge jump backwards.
I am more towards into seeing/appreciating beautiful graphics in game than ultra smooth FPS. I hardly play first-person-shooter game anyway, it gives me seasick & makes me feel like wanna vomit after playing for like 20 minutes or so. And I think that 144Hz thing mostly only benefits those who play competitively. They gain some sort of advantage from that 144Hz thing, when competing with other players. I love to play games like GTA V, Batman (too bad the latest one is a crap), Tomb Rider, etc. third-person kinda game. In fact at 1440p 60Hz or at 60fps I'm actually very happy already, which is my current setup. Anything and everything I throw at it also it can handle. So I am wondering perhaps a 980ti is meant for something larger, 4k for example, and hopefully it doesn't disappoint when I get the monitor soon.

A single 980 Ti does not have enough juice to power AA game titles in ultra mode for 4K resolution.
simple, not even GTX Titan X is enough for 4K, better sell & save money, use your current monitor & gc and wait until next generation Nvidia/AMD GPUs and more affordable 4K monitors with even more features come out, only then decide also, i can't see any jaggies at 1440p/4K at all but then again i play at 24", can't say anything about 27" and above people saying 144Hz/1ms/GSync/Freesync is not needed is like saying you don't need anything above 30/60fps, but once you've tried it, you'll never go back

Finally I have tried 4K using a single 980ti, and u r right about it, that it can't handle 4K very well, at least on Black Ops III. I have only tried 2 games so far, the other one is GTA V and surprisingly at 4K it runs really really well. at HIGH settings. Too bad when it comes to Black Ops III, FPS drops like crazy. Even when set everything to MEDIUM, still can't consistently achieve 60fps. So sad! Both games were tested with AA completely off. Will try more games when got the time.

I am now using 4K, and decided to sell off the 1440p monitor. GTA V runs really well, but not Black Ops III. I think the performance is very dependable on game titles. But luckily my motherboard is SLI supported. So in case really a single 980ti isn't good enough, I can always hunt for another one in future and SLI them. Hopefully 2 x 980Ti will be good enough for 4K.
I used to be happy with 1440p 60hz, after owning a 144hz panel, I am wishing my phone's and ipad screen refresh at 120+hz too... urg the blurrrrrrr
My 4K monitor can't go beyond 60Hz. But I have tried 1080p 144Hz before, the experience was very very smooth and fluid, but didn't exactly find it useful to me. I think it is more useful for people who play competitively online shooting each other in FPS kind of game.

Yes boss because I have tried 4K with 980 SLI earlier before moving to 980 Ti SLI (also tested single 980 Ti)

Haha more like boosting the cojones at 1440p in all games

Waahhh.....980Ti SLI......my dream leh! Wish I could afford a 2nd 980Ti now and SLI them immediately. By the way, may I ask, since u r using a GSync monitor with your 980Ti SLI, do you still enable or on the in-game VSync and/or the adaptive VSync in the Nvidia Control Panel? Is the conventional VSync or/and Adaptive VSync still needed when GSync is present? I'm starting to pening already lah with all these sync-sync thing. So many types of sync.........sigh.............

100 fps at 1440p anyone
TI is more 2 jalan all games at 30fps in 4k
By the way i still doing fine with 770 at 1440p
Ha ha......ya.....quite true. I'm currently experiencing it now. A single 980Ti can't achieve 60fps consistently, most of the times hoover in between 40fps and 50fps only. Tried a few other games and they are the same. So far only GTA V alone can consistently achieve 60fps at HIGH settings. It looks like a 2nd 980Ti is inevitable now.......damn!

There's only 3 types for nVidia which is the most popular, it's not confusing.
VSYNC OFF VSYNC ON GYNC
What you need to do is turn on "GSYNC" in the control panel and leave "VSYNC ON" inside the game. I tried a few games and setting "VSYNC OFF", I get image tearing and I'm not sure why, maybe it's the Acer 4K LCD. Nevertheless, it's up to your own gaming style as some people don't mind tearing at all.

I managed to grab a Acer 4K GSync monitor (XB281HK) lately, maybe same model like yours also. Inside the Nvidia Control Panel, under monitor type I get to choose between GSYNC and FIXED REFRESH RATE. I pick GSync. And under VSYNC there, I turn it OFF and inside game (GTA V) I on the VSync. No more tearing and pretty smooth too. Before that I ON in the Nvidia Panel and OFF it inside the game, got tearing like you said and not smooth. Strange. All is good on GTA V, but when I run Black Ops III, my goodness.........framerate drops like mad, even at MEDIUM graphic settings. Maybe this game is demanding and I think a 2nd 980ti is inevitable now.
avoid watch too much linus. that fella damn bias & mostly the statement is not true. currently depend on what gpu side u choose. so far both really not mature yet.
heh heh...watch for reference only, listen half and don't listen the other half. I am on the Green side now already, especially with the recent acquisition of a GSync monitor.

Glad you enjoy the new LCD and game Maybe you can get another 980 Ti or wait for the next generation of GPU to launch.
Still using my old old Samsung XL2370 with 970GTX.. Got consider to switch to Gsync monitor before but the price is too expansive. And my seat distance between the monitor is not even 2 feet. So i guess doing 1080p gameplay is still satisfactory tho.

A single GTX970 is more than good enough for 1080p I think. You don't need GSync also nevermind, because at this resolution, I believe GTX970 can fully push to 60fps or above without drop, maybe AA has to be either low or off entirely. I used to own this combo last time (1080p monitor with a single 970), everything I threw at it also able to run smoothly 60fps, only on certain particular games I couldn't max out the graphic settings.
