thats true, home button no need but Touch ID button, not necessary but need to protect from scratch. possible not working after scratch.

boss.. iphone 4 no touch ID... 5s and above using touch id.. .if you are not using it, then no point protecting it also... cos even if scratched also wont affect... for the touch id, i got few customers have issues of not recognising their fingerprints due to scratches... and worse, they have no idea how it got scratched at all

Bumper cases are minimalistic protection cases
It will provide some drop protection, but the phone is exposed to scratches
