mackerel itself is a common name given to a few species of pelagic fishes.

Senang cenggini, ikut cakap melayu. Tuna = tongkol, Sardine = sardin, mackerel = mabong/kembung.

Since I have gout, I stayed away from this fishes. But sometime I do take mabong/kembung

Nothing wrong with canned fish now and then

Tuna has Mercury so shouldn't be taken in too large quantities
Sardines I don't know, don't like sardines
Mackerel is good, healthy fat !

Of course a bit irrelevant if the sauce is unhealthy / salty

fresh tuna > fresh sardines > canned tuna > canned sardines.

and generally mackerel (mabong/kembong besar) not very healthy whether fresh or frozen/canned.

If you're eating fresh fish, then mackerel and sardine is very suitable for grilling and deep frying. Tuna is only good for curry and similar dishes only. If you're eating canned fish, then everything tastes the same, but for me, sardine has more flavour.

As which are the healthiest, avoid canned fish at all cost, then you'll be fine. Always opt for eating fresh.
