Why u want optical out? Coaxial sounded so much better...

Yeah coaxial better than optical but not enuf bandwidth to play lossless. You need hdmi for that. So far too lazy to compare hdmi and coaxial for nomal DD and DTS. I think for DVD whatever hdmi as long as it works u can use. Should be no difference one. Not sure whether u need a better quality one or not for BD because of the higher bandwidth.

I tot scart for video only and not sound?

I second that...but mine a generation older DV-600. Beat the 5996 hands down
