Yay LYN version of Flyertalk.

Late reporting, but here i am SPG Plat 50 fags inkambing, got matched to Hilton & Hyatt Diamond end of Nov 2015.
With so many top status in hand, but no time/low chances to enjoy them this year....owh it's just January where everything starts a bit slow sweat.gif

And just a lowly Enrich Silver sweat.gif

I think Marriott will keep SPG. The benefit for Marriott Gold is better than SPG Gold.
*
I wish...sounds like a pipe dream
And Marriott keep talking about synergies between the 2 programs, i'll bet SPG program will be dead sooner or later

Wow, you are so cool...you have SPG Platinum and Hilton/ Hyatt Diamond. Unfortunately I have Hilton and SPG Gold only. I am trying to get a status match with Marriott but so far no luck sad.gif

Does anyone know how to get a fast track Marriott Gold or status match to Marriott Gold?
*
I lurked around in flyertalk long enough to look for these opportunities biggrin.gif

Hyatt still extend status matches for SPG Plat members to Diamond, everything else they matched to Hyatt Plat...but this time the requirement a bit different.
http://survey.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0iYekX137ycHEP3

Not sure if Hilton still accept status matches though for now, but you're already Hilton Gold...that is more than good since can get lounge access.
I tried my fake diamond power at Hilton KL in Dec & loved it! although not upgraded to suite & the lounge was renovated, but really satisfied with the way they decorated my room & leave a small cake on the table (we're celebrating my sister's birthday).
I would love to try Grand Hyatt KL & redeem DSUs later, but their rates is the most expensive!!

Marriott wont bother matching anything, soon they will become the Skynet of hotels mad.gif
I never spend a single night with them just because their loyalty program sucked.

Aiyaa...was sad that my recent MH ticket redemption to Miri was not credited any sector anymore. Last year i got 2 sectors incl points for my award return trip! Even the free trip was not shown in my enrich profile after few days.
Talking about YMMV..

i suppose award ticket shouldn't earn point and sector right? maybe last year they credited to you by mistake.
*
Im not sure about that...but yea..that what dampens me when redeeming miles though. tbh i rather pay cash for tickets no matter what unless it's exorbitantly expensive. qualifying for sectors is more important for me.

hmm if only those programs are similar with spg, award stay are credited as qualifying stays tongue.gif

So the Starwood-Marriott deal is now off again. I might continue to be SPG Gold for the 9th year after all!
*
might as well go for SPG Lifetime Plat brows.gif

I'm still on the wait & see mode...if after June no significant change on the program i try to clock in as much night as economically possible, requalifying for another elite year & lowering the gap for lifetime gold. need 3 more years elite & 138 nights more sweat.gif
It's hard to do this purely out of pocket, without spg amex & immediate restriction in business travel cry.gif

Lifetime Platinum is too far away haha. But I agree with travel restrictions I'm also somewhat limited on the number of nights I can/willing to do on my own. With business travel I could typically reach 25 nights on business travel alone. Oh well...
*
But with 9 years as Gold, dont you have a Lifetime Gold status now?

and sadly Marriott outbids Anbang offer & now on the winning side....sigh ranting.gif

My early years were SPG Gold from my US Amex Platinum charge card, only in the past few years that I'm with a US based company that I've stayed more at SPG properties, primarily in Houston biggrin.gif So I've been gold since 2008 but still 100+ nights short of lifetime gold, with the economy the way it is I guess I won't be getting lifetime Gold anytime soon.

So Marriott upped their bid, but Anbang still has lots of cash. I'm surprised Marriott actually went all out this time, I'm hoping Anbang will win this one. I guess we can hope biggrin.gif

OT thanks to the AA devaluation it's next to impossible to find EY F awards on the A380 now...
*
Ya lor, hoping for last minute miracle tongue.gif
How's Gold treatment at the US?

As for me, back to the drawing board on the next best loyalty program to collect points. preference will be Hyatt but ugh limited hotels in Msia and most of the time very expensive. They will have points promo soon in April (looks really generous if can clock in the nights), im thinking of trying at least get the 5 nights in for 5k points at Hyatt KK.

After my last stay in Novotel Melaka, i find Accor property quite nice. soon to open the Pullman Miri. If SPG is totally dead i will sign up for Accor Plus membership asap biggrin.gif

So far I've been treated quite well as SPG Gold in the US. When I'm traveling alone on business I don't really care about room upgrades etc but the 4pm late checkout is almost always a given and it's a huge advantage. I've not tried it yet but the online check in/key is also a nice advantage especially if you're checking in to a busy hotel like the Sheraton NYC where there's like 30+ people waiting in the regular line and 20+ people waiting in the SPG Gold/Platinum line to check in biggrin.gif

I was Accor Platinum for 1 year back when I traveled Europe a lot. Locally I like the Pullman in Kuching and Putrajaya, fantastic hotels with very reasonable rates but I don't get recognized or upgraded much (at all?). It's like most of them don't know what Accor Platinum is although this was probably 3-4 years ago. So I used up several thousand points to get the cash vouchers and haven't stayed at Accor hotels much.

Hyatt is nice but as you said, expensive if you're paying yourself. I also don't see much benefit being Hyatt Platinum during my last stay at Grand Hyatt Singapore. Their cash + points rates are very attractive though so I might just continue this one.

Finally I recently started with IHG, fantastic service and upgrade at the Intercontinental while I was in Saudi Arabia earlier this year. Great service at the Holiday Inn Melaka some weeks back too, but I didn't get an upgrade. I might stay with IHG for awhile.

I don't do Marriott, not yet at least biggrin.gif
*
Really nice to read about your story and your international trips. Thanks for sharing smile.gif

I dont have any strong reasons to travel outside M'sia as of yet....I choose to stay at SPG during the height of FATs & new projects because of its abundance locally, and most of the properties are really good. We got corporate rates with Hyatt KK that makes it cheaper than the Le Meridien KK, while the property was old & the lifts are rickety, but every points earned over there i can redeem fpr C+P for Grand Hyatt KL.

If Kuching still have that Holiday Inn i may give IHG a try, but also not much worthwile property to collect points for local travel/stay.

My Marriott account still zero activity since the first day of signing up in 2014 tongue.gif
I'm confident that will stay that way even after they bought SPG over....macam lah takde hotel lain nak stay that is cheaper & perhaps better.

Just gotta chime in on this. My Marriott account was registered even earlier. Only have had one activity since I clocked it in 2010 and it has been in cold storage since lol.

My last stay as SPG gold at Sheraton HK scored me an upgrade to a corner room with better view, although I was being told by many people that upgrading to enhanced room was not quite possible at this busy hotel. I must admit that I had to push for it a little, just a little :-)
*
Grats on that upgrade!
I still remember my very first stay as an SPG member (just joined) scored me an upgrade to the club floor, but without lounge access laa...lol.
Still it was a great start of my #spglife in 2014 biggrin.gif

This year still zero stay at any branded hotel though, but dozens of nights in random inns/service apartment hotel near the airport. whichever the most convenient.

Finally SPG & Marriott tied the knot, and there's nothing we can do about it...

On the other hand, i welcome the Emirates partnership with Enrich! At least i have an easier dumping place for my remaining SPG points if things get devalued as soon as they can.

It says they don't anticipate changes to the SPG program till 2018. Meanwhile , enjoy till it lasts I guess, at least that's what I will do smile.gif
*
Yeah gotta enjoy them while still in their old SPG form if i happen to walk past a spg hotel biggrin.gif
Too bad my travels since the beginning of 2016 only confines within Miri, so i'm having 'fun' sampling all the various newly opened inns & independent hotels. Well, there is more to life than to get tied by a certain loyalty programs...sometimes you can get more but cheaper cool2.gif

In other news, the new Accor announcement makes us from the lower currency country cringed to qualify for elite status vmad.gif fuck, even getting silver can be a stretch because of the shitty MYR (not sure if they will retain the night requirement). but then again the game of the masses is always to vote by the wallet.
