Agreed. Sign up bonuses in the US is kinda lucrative compared to Msia cards. However miles earning for daily spend is way less compared to Msia or Sg.

Also you're not restricted to just one lounge. You can lounge hop.

Cathay transferring their KUL-HKG route to Dragonair.

That sucks for me, as I can no longer use Alaska Miles to redeem on this sector since KA is not part of the network.

Looks like back to AA miles then.

with the transferring of KUL - HKG to Dragonair, how does this affect OW redemption for MH ya? Cos all flights outwards will need to transit at HKG.. Does it mean if i want to get to say LAX, i need to redeem multicarrier OW award instead of a single carrier OW award?

This sucks cos multicarrier cost so much more...

I'm afraid that will be the case, unless MAS allows for CX code share on KA flights.

Quite simple to use actually:

"kul-ist-fra"

2 segment path:
KUL IST 312° (NW) 312° (NW) 5,206 mi
IST FRA 309° (NW) 304° (NW) 1,159 mi
6,365 m

Not sure if many here will be able to utilize it, but the redemption rates for Japan Airlines has been released by Alaska miles.

At least now there's another option for US flights to Asia but the timing for ex KUL is horrible. Better than nothing since now that CX is no longer redeemable via Alaska due to the change to Cathay Dragon for flights to KUL.

Congrats.... i'm right now in 5/24 jail... waiting till mid 2017 before i become eligible again. However i do see Freedom Unlimited being pre approved in my account, tempted to pull the trigger on that. Also the new Barclays AA Aviator with 40K AA miles is super tempting. Doing these 2 will push out my 5/24 date out even further.

Oops, late to the discussion. If possible always try the Pier lounge. Even though if my flight is departing from gates 1-4 (US bound) i'll make the trip there, better food, better everything (maybe except the showers).

Takes about 10 minutes to walk back from the Pier to gates 1-4.

Reminder that the SQ devaluation is coming soon this thursday.

I've already booked my CNY 2018 trip back!

Hi there,

Need some opinions from expert here.
I am planning to use One World redemption.

1.) If I am planning to go to USA west coast, is it better to land at San Francisco or Los Angeles? I am planning to rent a car and go around few itinerary like Disneyland and Vegas.

- depending on how you do your redemption, you could land in either LAX or SFO and return via the other airport (redeem as 2 one way awards). Availability to LAX is typically better since there's just more flights there among OW carriers. That way you do a one way car rental to get in between the 2 cities.

2.) I am planning to redeem 3 economy ticket.
Which will be the better option for better flight experience and lower surcharge?
There are so many choices:
like Qatar, JAL, Cathay Pacific, British Airways, American Airlines, Emirates

- To be honest, CX kinda sucks in terms of Y service compared to the others (with the exception of AA, bottom of the barrel). That said, i tend to fly CX the most due to timing.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the advice.
I have called the enrich hotline to check for the availability of JAL and AA, to my surprise both also no availability.
It sounds like they are rejecting OW redemption by simply saying no availability.

Anyone have experience redeeming OW from Enrich?

Per @raist86, you need to search for availability using BA or JL or Qantas.

Redeeming award flights is not as easy like what they say in the marketing brochures.

Either you make your booking at 330 days in advance or 2 weeks before flying for best availability.

For eg. I just booked my CNY 2018 trip about 2 weeks ago for coming back to KUL and I'm now searching for my return flight back (looking at either CX, JL or BR).

Thanks a million raist86.
I tried to check the availability using BA Avios system and it works like a charm.
Noted. Will take note on this.
Thank you.
The flight availability is quite a lot actually.
NRT --> LAX
Economy: 48K miles
Premium Economy: 62K miles
Business Class: 72K miles

I think business class is the most worth it to claim.
As the normal price ticket cost RM30K.
*
I'm assuming that you're looking at JL...

The only downside to me the 10hr layover at NRT. I'm also looking at that particular KUL-NRT-LAX redemption. If i do take it, i'll probably head over to Tokyo for a quick makan and look see.

U mean u booked exactly 330 days in advance and then only for the outbound? For coming back, have to wait for exactly 330 days before flight to book? Is that what u mean?
*
Most mileage programs only allow you to book 330/331 days in advance (some also allow for 355 days such as BA, etc.)

So i booked my first leg on SQ since i was trying to book it before the devaluation. Now i'm waiting for the booking window to open for my 2nd leg.

Can use KF miles to book codes sharing flight? I saw flight in Aegan airline but operate by Olympic airline.

I doubt you will be allowed to book a codeshare flight unless Olympic is part of *alliance.

Thanks. Flying to Santorini is not cheap, thought just use miles.
*
Looks like might be doable:
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/star-allian...r-alliance.html

I did a quick search using Avianca and was able to price the following award out, so looks like *Alliance partner award should work as well suing Krisflyer.

However to be honest i think it's a waste of miles. Cash price for a round trip (july/Aug) is only $60-70 via Ryanair and $120 via Olympic.

i was just thinking of it, for us based overseas, seems better to get a Msian credit card for un-bonus spend, ie. stuff that just gets 1 point per $.

For example, get the Ambank card, overseas spend is 5x, so essentially becomes RM1=1 SQ or RM1=0.83. So spending $1 gets me 4 SQ miles.....
