Now that you pointed it out, I realize that my statement about the defect is not reasonable. But the reason I actually mentioned that is because OLED TVs defect rates seem to be much higher than the LCD TVs in general and LG being the major seller of OLED TVs inadvertently gets the blame. In a way I believe its justified because such high levels of defect shows that LG has poor QC but maybe this is more of an issue with the technology itself. Anyway, since for me this will be a very big purchase, I am really not keen to risk it with any OLED until the technology matures. But damn, its really hard to resist the temptation!
Read the same thing in Rtings about the Sony OLEDs yesterday, quite disappointing really and they are charging a premium over LG for a worse PQ. Will probably take your advice (in the other thread) to wait till 2018 and maybe get slightly cheaper prices too.
OLEDs are not easy to manufacture. Recently, LG has made improvements to their manufacturing process for OLED panels. Models made after April 2017 are expected to have some of the new improvements implemented, at least that's what I'm reading from Korean news and forums. There are of course no clear cut proof to this though.
Anyways, I went from an E6 last year, sold it this year for a C7. Wouldn't have gone with LG again if I weren't confident with them. While my panel is not perfect due to a slight bit of vignetting (a common issue that most people perceive it as a "defect"), I understand that OLED isn't perfect yet.
The best LCDs aren't even perfect anyways, I mean I've seen a Z9D with 4 dead LED zones in a showroom that not even the demonstrator saw until I pointed it out... so, you know.. :
Everyone expects next year to be the "tick" year for LG's next OLED panel. So we'll see how it goes. I'm here ready to sell my C7 for a C8 or whatever they're call gonna call it.
