7.5K for X85D 55 inch , have to see what's the price of 93D version or upcoming 55"KS8000 from samsung.  I'm eyeing 55inch max and from review/forum in amazon and AVS  the X85D review is a bit mix.

RM7.5k for an IPS panel and it's a mediocre one somemore. Sony dropped the ball on this one.

X85D using IPS panel shakehead.gif ,not sure X90D and X93d

X90/93D uses VA panels. They're generally pretty good, but expect it to be overpriced. Also if you play games, look elsewhere. RTings and HDTVTest got 53ms with it. doh.gif

I think Sony & Panasonic are using LG panels, so the panels are the same but the processing will be different. Last year the Panasonic Oled TV was rated better than LG's own Oled TVs.
I think Sony's Oled TV will be much better than LG's. LG units have a high defect rate as well.

LG's defect rate the highest because they sell the most OLED TVs. Significantly more than both Panasonic and Sony combined so far, so that's an unfair comparison.

Both Sony and Panasonic employs different tone mapping algorithms, on paper the Sony performs the "worse" because it clips highlights and details. But in reality for most eyes, majoritywill perceive Sony as the best because it appears "brighter" and "punchier".

Now that you pointed it out, I realize that my statement about the defect is not reasonable. But the reason I actually mentioned that is because OLED TVs defect rates seem to be much higher than the LCD TVs in general and LG being the major seller of OLED TVs inadvertently gets the blame. In a way I believe its justified because such high levels of defect shows that LG has poor QC but maybe this is more of an issue with the technology itself. Anyway, since for me this will be a very big purchase, I am really not keen to risk it with any OLED until the technology matures.  But damn, its really hard to resist the temptation!

Read the same thing in Rtings about the Sony OLEDs yesterday, quite disappointing really and they are charging a premium over LG for a worse PQ. Will probably take your advice (in the other thread) to wait till 2018 and maybe get slightly cheaper prices too.

OLEDs are not easy to manufacture. Recently, LG has made improvements to their manufacturing process for OLED panels. Models made after April 2017 are expected to have some of the new improvements implemented, at least that's what I'm reading from Korean news and forums. There are of course no clear cut proof to this though.

Anyways, I went from an E6 last year, sold it this year for a C7. Wouldn't have gone with LG again if I weren't confident with them. While my panel is not perfect due to a slight bit of vignetting (a common issue that most people perceive it as a "defect"), I understand that OLED isn't perfect yet.
The best LCDs aren't even perfect anyways, I mean I've seen a Z9D with 4 dead LED zones in a showroom that not even the demonstrator saw until I pointed it out... so, you know.. : mega_shok.gif

Everyone expects next year to be the "tick" year for LG's next OLED panel. So we'll see how it goes. I'm here ready to sell my C7 for a C8 or whatever they're call gonna call it.

Yes, I'm glad LG didn't give up on OLEDs like Samsung did due to the difficult manufacturing process. I really hope they improve and make it more reliable. Also, it will be great if there are a couple of more manufacturers for OLED other than LG to make it more competitive.

Wow, you plan to upgrade again? That's hardcore  biggrin.gif  I have much shallower pockets so I need the TV to survive for at least 5 years if not more. Did you lose much when you sold the E6?

I believe Sharp will be entering the market for OLED soon?

It's a sad bug of upgraditis, it's a silly rabbit hole to be honest. On one hand, I'm secretly expecting HDMI 2.1 to put an end to all the issues HDMI 2.0 is having as well as having that all important variable refresh rate support... but the logical thinking is that, HDMI 2.1 will have its own host of problems as well.

Didn't lose anything when selling the E6 actually. Bought E6 last year at 23k, then sold it for 22k a month+ ago, then bought C7 for 20k. Actually earn 1k lol sweat.gif
Since they are all using the same panel, the same chipset, the base PQ is the same. It's just the little refinements here and there (the ABL being the most important one for me) that makes the C7 better.
