Sorry if this is wrong thread for this question. I will post it in other relevant thread too. I felt it appropriate for me to ask this question here because of the detailed and expert opinion it gets from those who reply here..

Background: I have been facing an internal and confusing battle between choosing an excellent Full HD TV (HDMI2.0 + digital audio decoding capable) vs low end 4K.

Question:
1. What will you guys say is an excellent Full HD 50" around RM 1.8-2.3k (must have at least one HDMI2.0 and able to decode audio DTS/DD at least)

Was considering lower end 4K since price range for these two are close to my budget: LG 49UF640T vs Samsung 48JU6000.

Confusion: I don't see it worth getting the lower end 4k simply due to these reasons: non120Hz true refresh rate + most low end 4K are edge lit backlight + sitting about 8ft away + will not be playing much 4K content anyway.

Now, my remaining Q:
2. Will I be able to see much difference between 4k and the 1080p at 8ft away? I need your expert help and comments please as I never owned LED TV larger than 40"

3. What features am I overlooking if I buy a Full HD now? I am ok to buy a new 4k TV in next 3years. At the same time I don't want to be disappointed with my current buy.

Please advise guys.

Only you will know the answer by comparing them side by side. Head to a big dealer with lots of models.

Ok.

While I appreciate your reply, it wasn't what I was looking for. I tried my best in typing out a quick summary and detailed questions. If you don't mind, I will have to redirect all attention to my earlier post again.

In my opinion, purpose of this forum in general and this thread in specific is to to share experiences, based on certain technical terms. And we're stronger when we share knowledge & experiences prior to going to the dealer.
Else all of us will be heading to big dealers and finally buying what appears to be best for us at that time (SA and other wow factors)
Apologize for being blunt here smile.gif but i remain hopeful to read replies with more substance.

Thanks AVFAN & voncrane - always can rely on your replying.

Does that mean a good 4K TV you will no longer use a STB and rely solely on the in-built Android?

Does the Sharp UE630X do HDCP2.2 by default?
Need to know as some soundbars that I've shortlisted do not support HDCP2.2 protocol.

UE630X use silicon image sil9777 for the TV port which  support hdcp 2.2 but not HDR.

Correct me if I'm wrong, this means possibly can't use soundbars to passthru content

i mean it is better to disable this option right?

what are you guys' experience when using soundbars, home theater system etc when it blocks the passthru and an "hdcp error" appears?

am I looking at this issue wrongly? please share

I received my 50UE630X today and I was wondering what will be the startup pack of APPS to be installed.
I know Kodi tops my list, but any other MUST-HAVE app?

Also looking to immediately be able to stream CNN, BBC and Football channels (I'm aware connection via streams is unreliable, but I want to try them out first before signing up for an "illegal" IPTV subscription.

Thanks for input guys

p/s: just to share, ESH promotion now is RM3k (including 5 years from Sharp) 50UE630X

i assure u it's fine on the smart tv as i have OBLIVION working on tv's kodi.

i think it's just u r not familiar with the steps or did not get the zip correct or tv kodi failed to read yr usb.

.. re-read post #1192 in kodi thread, type in the long string, get the zip on pc->usb.
(file is named Oblivion Streams.zip, 324KB.)

.. plug in usb into tv usb drive.

.. open up kodi and install with settings/install from zip.
make sure that zip shows up and u install it with the usual method.
give it a few seconds, u should see the message "oblivion addon enabled".
then go activate/open in under video addons.
potential issue:

depending on yr thumbdrive/ext hdd, tv's kodi may NOT be able to read it as it is sensitive to some brands/formating.

if the zip file of usb does not appear when trying to install it, u will need do something extra.
u will first need to copy that zip onto a folder inside the tv.
do that with es file explorer, look a folder that kodi can read, copy/paste it there.
then go back to kodi and install with that file rather than USB.
as u can see, knowing kodi and es file explorer are key to getting kodi work well on the tv.
i have it working well, not even using android box much for kodi.

hi bro

what has happened is i typed this (http://gen.-tec.co/gentecwiz/video%20addons/Oblivion%20Streams.zip) directly as if adding a repo

Hi guys,

Has anyone installed any VPN for the UE630X on the TV itself?

And is that a working alternative to putting a dns at the router?

Doing this to find a solution to allow netflix usa and other blocked content on kodi to load.

Thanks!

getting harder and harder, even with paid VPN.
netflix determined to block them all!

read last couple of pages:

I see

but what I wanted to know really was, assuming netflix does not go on a quest to block them, is that the right method to use the VPN?

Is it just that simple or is there another correct way to install/run it?

Thanks

Hi guys,
Has anyone tried to remote view your sharp UE630X using any software like TeamViewer or Mobizen from laptop?
I know most of you will say use air mouse, which is the best option.
Reason for my asking is:
1. Just wondering if anyone has tried this.
2. More efficient control from my laptop when configuring Kodi and other apps.

I will appreciate any sharing even if no one has done this.

ue630x owners...

i have tested the tv's kodi 17.0 on this tv's android 5.1.

it works very well, much to my delight.

latest quasar 9.69 works smoothly, no problem with >5gb videos.

use it! rclxms.gif

kodi's quasar 9.69 or 9.71 is down now, unfortunately... sad.gif

waiting for next update to fix it.

meanwhile, try popcorntime 1.4! thumbup.gif

may be off topic here, but ill also include the below in the other android tv thread.

Just make sure to use the popcorntime website with the .sh extension for your downloads.

I scanned the downloaded .exe's from few other sites and it contains at least 1 irregularities (does not mean they're malware or virus. It only means the checksums been altered)

hi bros
solution is, when restart modem, wait until modem and internet connection is ON before going to youtube - giving it a 1min lead time will suffice.

Dear AVFAN and others still using ue630x

I am struggling and frustrated because I just did a system Factory reset.
Because Disney+ was giving me error and refuse to play. Occasionally the YouTube app will crash too
Now, after reset, the UI looks dated and even checking the network update it says updated.

Play store Version: 35.2.19-23 [8][PR] 522404461

Android security patch 1 Jan2018

Version 6.0.1
Build 31200 MUC91 release-keys

Please help guys. I have done hard reset of TV, internet etc

update:

version n build are same as mine.

BUT playstore version, i hv 37.0.16-23[8][PR]553874651

Hi bro AVFAN

I have no qualms on TV performance even before factory reset. The fear is Android version 6.01 is stopping Playstore to get updated.
In fact when I enter YouTube in the search box, nothing shows up. Even installed Disney+ and kept getting network error screen after multiple attempt to log in (successful) but then get Network error when try to play.

How do I update Playstore? I think I'm missing something here.

After factory reset I go through all steps and so something could be interrupted during my Android installation maybe?

Thanks again. I suspect others may also be facing my internet instability issue. Although I have confirmed that internet hardware and cables are 100%

Yes confirm issue is playstore
As even after update YouTube doesn't even show up in the search box. The default YouTube icon present on home screen doesn't open saying "this action is not allowed"

Basically Disney+ and Netflix also doesn't work. So might need to buy a simple Android box to use as proxy

If anyone finds a fix please let me know as this TV video and audio quality is better than Sony similar specs and size.

playstore app doesn't prompt u to update anything, incl itself?

if so, it looks like a complicated problem.
use of android box - youtube can be obtained easily although not all boxes will give u 1080p.

Google certified boxes are available, they shud be able to do all that u get on the TV - all the certified AndroidTV apps.

i updated all apps a few days ago, all is good now incl netflix, disney+, iqiyi, youtube, unifitv.

i have used boxes for more than a decade. now, i prefer AndroidTV or GoogleTV for convenience. Boxes for local playback only.
yes, this TV is a good one; even as non HDR, it produces decent PQ for HDR videos if u set mode to dynamic (set yr own).
*
Yes I've been using Unblocktech ubox 3 (5years old very old box) without issue for the all around world channels. Including Malaysian Astro sports channels. Only issue it buffers. All China channels are better especially if you wanna follow any badminton.

Anyway. Reason I want to get new tv box is YouTube and Disney+ doesn't work properly on the ubox3. Netflix works well.

After i factory reset the TV. I did nothing different except connect LAN and sign on Google to setup. Update the Playstore 8apps and YouTube doesn't even show in it. Netflix is March 2023 update so I am guessing it will work better on TV. Only issue is the remote is slow and loading on TV also a bit slow. Unless do you use an Air mouse? The air mouse I use doesn't really respond for going back or to previous screen.

I have to check out what is iqiyi.
But for now main thing is I have to figure out how to solve this simple YouTube not working problem in the mean time waiting to buy simple TV box which allows Chrome browser and also YouTube. I heard YouTube isn't issue nowadays on most boxes but Chrome browser isn't straightforward.
