I was looking at this a while back too. The previous Hotlink and XPAX have validity but not the current #Hotlink and Magic SIM. Digi still have it the last time I checked.
My best bet now is with Tune Talk as I am not familiar with the other MVNO as mentioned and there are more too.
The doubts I have with the rest of the MVNO is how long will they be around. And will you be able to MNP out before/when they go bust.
I would love to see how this discussion goes. Should be interesting.

Which of the MVNO have international roaming ? And are there more details on what these MVNO backbone are ?
I know TuneTalk was with Maxis and currently Celcom I think .. this info will be good to check their coverage.
Thanks.

Reading the Altel FAQ.. the quarterly is a current data promotion, extended from 30 days to 90 days for the 1GB. If this promotions becomes permanent, then you will have the option of 1GB or 2GB data plan. But that would mean topping up data every quarterly if V365 is not added.
Wonder how long has the 1GB for 90days have been going on for ?

Long term promo .. nice.
Do you know Altel is riding on which backbone ? Digi, Celcom or Maxis ?
I have horrible signal and service with Digi so I am trying to avoid them totally, if possible.

Cool.. thanks for the info. I did not know Digi and uMobile was on TM backbone... interesting. I always thought Celcom was the only one on TM infra.

Tune Talk looks the best for me since it is mainly for calls backup and if I want data, I can subscribe and it will expire, rather than auto re-subscribe. Wish XPAX IOX in the past have this option. Most of them are auto re-subscribe. International roaming too which is a good option. Altel looks good for data but with the speech SMS and all. It looks funny. Personal perspective. Now need to look for an app for schedule Data Off

Foreigners have to get the Traveller's SIM I think.. unless you want to register some SIM for them.
I know TuneTalk and Hotlink have Traveller's SIM.

I have been on Hotlink Tablet Plan for a few months now. Details as below :
Hotlink Tablet Plan:
Where to get : Only from Maxis Centers. No dealers carry them.
SimPack Price: RM30 - Discount from RM 60.
Data :1GB Data. (No PAYU. No data access once quota is used up).
Roaming : NIL.
Speed : 4G/3G.
Validity : 365 days upon SIM activation (For 1st year even if Data have been used up. There after, follows Top Up validity.).
Top Up options once initial 1GB Data used up:
RM25 - 1GB - Validity : 60 days.
RM45 - 2GB - Validity : 365 days.
Calls: NIL. SMS: NIL. MMS: NIL.
Every Hotlink Tablet SIM comes with a mobile number but that is just to identify the SIM and account.
Since there is no USSD commands via SMS, you will need to download the Hotlink RED app.
Hotlink RED app functions: (*App can only function when SIM is installed in Tablet or Cellphone.)
1) Activate SIM for first use. 2) Check Balance of Data. 3) Validity. 4) Top Up.
*Note: Wifi must be turn off and must be on Hotlink/Maxis network to use the Hotlink RED app. It is free to use and does not count towards your data.
The only minor inconvenience of this plan is Top Up.
1) Top Up via Hotlink RED app : No issues.
2) Top Up at top up centres : There is no specific Top Up for Tablet plan so you have to top up RM 60 for the RM 45 2GB option. The balance will remain with the account as informed by Hotlink.
3) Top Up via Maxis Website : Same issue as no 2).
Gadget to use with :
1) Tablet. 2) Dual SIM cellphones. 3) MiFi devices. - * Cannot access Hotlink RED app with MiFi devices.
This plan will work well if you have a Dual SIM phone or a MiFi device. It works as I am using it on my 3G MiFi device without issues. I use the Hotlink Tablet SIM as a back up when my cellphone hotspot is acting up.

This is what I like about TuneTalk where I can customise the services that I want and do not want, thru their website. No need for USSD codes. Especially since this is my backup phone, I only need calls and maybe SMS. Never seen this before in Maxis, Celcom and Digi when I had them as my providers... I can control what I want

Redone Data 8 seems interesting .. I might just have to call them for some clarification since there is a Red Plan 8 and a Data 8.
It is PAYU once the quota have been exhausted.
Not much details on International roaming etc.

Got some info about Redone ..
The differences between the Red Plan RM 8 and the Data8 is just the data. Calls, SMS, MMS, etc all the same, just with Data8, you get the 500MB included.
Data is only 3G but if you get the 2GB bundle, then it can access 4G. Does not matter to me as my area is mostly on H+ / 3G with Celcom.
Data is PAYU/PPU after the 500MB quota have exhausted unless you are on the bundle.. then it becomes throttled.
International roaming is available and all their calls are Direct Dial only .. no options for cheaper rates like the other telcos that use the *120* Call Back function.
International roaming is not activated by default so you will need to activate it and there will be a deposit.
Credit limit is default at RM 50 .. deposit is needed if you want to increase the credit limit.
For MNP post paid users, to increase credit limit and bypass all these deposits .. you will just need to show the agent your postpaid bill and they will match the Credit Limit and activate your international roaming.
Data8 Looks good for a cheap package.

Came across something when I was re-exploring Buzzme, in their T&C under SIM
8. In the event that a SIM is lost or damaged, the Subscriber may retain his/her existing mobile number by purchasing a new SIM and reloading a minimum of RM50. Remaining credit from lost/damaged SIM will not be refunded.
This is bad .. now I need to relook at the Redone Data8.

I did explore the Tron, XOX and Frendi before I went for TuneTalk. I have to agree that these are good choices if you just want to park the line or just to receive calls or SMS.
For Calls TuneTalk is cheaper becoz for the first 2 minutes, it will be 16 cents / minutes but there after 10 cents/ minute... so if you speak for more than 2 minutes, it will be cheaper than the rest.
I will need to explore more since I am considering changing my post paid to Data8 or the other 3 above since Maxis has the best for data in my area.

QUOTE(humanbeing99 @ May 11 2016, 06:09 PM) Any cheapest way for longer telco validity ? Number no call, sms or even internet. i just want to keep the number. before this i use Hotlink SOS topup trick, but cant anymore. If you current Hotlink is before #Hotlink, then you can opt for Hotlink 365 Validation. #Hotlink onwards have no validation option.

RedOne can be a hassle to MNP to as RedOne website does not have facilities to Port over online. Some of RedOne agents do not offer MNP even though they are suppose to but manage to find an agent that is the mobile kind of agent and he made a website to offer what RedOne website does not offer. Nice chap. This is his website : http://www.myredone.com.my/mnp-registration/Just MNP mine with him.

Update to RedOne Data8 above:
RedOne Customer Service 1909 Line is really bad .. could not connect for over 12 hours now. The staff are friendly but I guess their line got problems.
Since I was promised that RedOne will match my International Roaming and Credit Limit from my Post Paid when I MNP over .. it was with some hassle.
The thing with RedOne are, increase from default credit limit of RM 50 will require deposit and same goes with International Roaming but International Roaming deposit is RM 300 !!!
RedOne registration method is first to activate or MNP customers to their basic default accounts. Once the line have successfully MNP or activated, the agents will have to apply for whatever to match MNP service like credit limit and international roaming. This is when the hassle starts as RedOne can reject it and ask you to pay the deposit.
I do not know if this is the method Redone use to get more customers and to screw them over deposits ?! With some arm twisting, I manage to get my international roaming !
If you are not satisfied, you have 7 days from the day the line got active to port out. This is in their TnC.
