QUOTE(asil66 @ Feb 27 2014, 07:29 PM) I went to the Postgradasia fair last week. They said can transfer between campuses. Not too sure about their modules. Yes, i just called them few days ago, can transfer but we need to pay the fees according to the campus we are going.Only for electives we don't have to pay. |

QUOTE(asil66 @ Feb 23 2014, 09:52 PM) dear all sifus, To be honest, i'm in the similar boat like you deciding between those two universities in Malaysia because of their triple accreditation but both somehow i feel both has it's good and bad side.I need some advice here. I am planning to study MBA but is currently undecided on which business school to choose. I am very tempted to register for those triple crown MBA course (Strathclyde / Lancaster) but feels like the fees are too high. I just want to ask, how important is the accreditation for MBA programs? Hope to get feedbacks from hiring managers / experienced professionals in finance field. I work in finance for a foreign oil & gas company. Many thanks in advance. Very difficult |

QUOTE(asil66 @ Feb 28 2014, 09:52 AM) Yup, I guess it all boils down to the purpose why you want to take MBA, which industry you are working in and what kind of company. Well quite similar for case for me. Strathclyde, if i'm not wrong, you can't apply mybrain. The sole purpose for me to take MBA is career progression. I work in a MNC and I know for a fact that, accreditation of our qualifications do make a difference. At the very least you know that the chances of being called for interview is higher. But, there are many other factors to consider as well. For me, the difficulties is in the $$$, hehe.... I have just settled my PTPTN and I am not sure if I wanna take on another debt for my MBA. |

QUOTE(asil66 @ Mar 10 2014, 03:13 PM) My 3 options right now are Lancaster, Strathclyde & Warwick.Strathclyde has the option to transfer over for the last sem for 3 months and 6k pounds to be added. Electives abroad do not clash with main course. Only disadvantaged as of now is it's not MQA recognized and cant apply mybrain. Lancaster is not so flexible if you plan to move around as the schedules may clash but it's still an option. Warwick is my another option but the thought of doing Gmat is killing me. How about yourself? Narrowed down? |

QUOTE(asil66 @ Mar 10 2014, 04:52 PM) I am considering either Nottingham or UM. I see, Warwick is not in Malaysia. I'm just keeping it as a backup plan. For me $$$ is a big deciding factor and I need access to financial assistance. I don't need the ability to do transfer cos I am planning on starting a family within the next 2-3 years. Therefore, I'll need to complete it locally. Btw, why Warwick and which institution is offering that locally? Nottingham fee is quite close to Strathclyde. UM & UPM is RM20k+ |

QUOTE(asil66 @ Mar 10 2014, 05:04 PM) Yup, it's really a big headache for me cos the difference between Nottingham and Strathclyde is only about $3K+. But Strathclyde is triple crown vs double crown for Nottingham... feels like it's not worth studying with Nottingham Yup i agree, actually to me Strathclyde is the best compared to the others but Mybrain and MQA thing is the only issue Summore, the fees for Strathclyde include study materials and books. Not sure about Nottingham. If Nottingham doesn't include that , then there's not much difference. But Nottingham can apply for Mybrain & PTPTN I guess it depends on your long term goal since the missing accreditation is AACSB (US). |

For those who have completed their MBA,
1) How has it helped you in your career/business? 2) How important is it going to top schools? (in Malaysia) 3) For those who did their MBA abroad, what's the advantage you feel compared to doing it in top schools in Malaysia? I don't want my MBA to be an additional certificate with slight increment. I'm more interested in how it can benefit me. |

It depends a lot on what you want from a MBA. If you want triple accreditation, only Sunway and Strathclyde has it here.

QUOTE(cybermaster98 @ Nov 17 2014, 02:27 PM) First of all, i never used the accredition as a differential criteria. My point was to highlight the fact that Sunway was misleading people by that statement when in fact only the Lancaster business school is triple accredited not the Sunway program. As for the standings of each business school, Strathclyde ranks higher as well. As to the importance of the triple accredition, the top 30 programs in the world dont quite need it as their programs speak for themselves. But for the others, the accredition does hold weight especially if one is looking for overseas employment e.g in Europe. There are 2 certificates at the end of the day, one from Lancaster and one from Sunway. Strathclyde only overtook Lancaster this year. Lancaster was ahead for the last few years based on the FT rankings. Lancaster has a stricter entry requirement. Both are good but one has to evaluate which will suit them better. |

QUOTE(cybermaster98 @ Nov 24 2014, 02:56 PM) Then feel free to correct my 'fact' above. But u cant can u? Then you are in fact already making an assumption even though u think ure not. Tell me the course which is better than Strathclyde in Malaysia. While ure at it, go find out why the Manchester MBA program was stopped at Sunway and moved to Singapore. And yes ive done my research on the accredition, alumni network, course participants, etc. and there is no personal preference when it comes to post grad courses. If the course is good then its good for very specific reasons. There is no 'feeling' or 'personal preference' involved. The defining factor is whether you have the brains to qualify for the program or not. If u knew me in real life, u would never doubt any of my info above. Why was it stopped?Btw, my 'noise' is purely for others to learn how to make the correct choices and not be taken in by the crap salesman talk that private colleges in Malaysia are famous for. Im not interested in any of the MBA courses in Malaysia so i stand to make no gain from promoting Strathclyde or the likes. |

QUOTE(edahani @ Jan 29 2015, 03:15 PM) Hi there Hi, how long is the electives module if someone wants to do it at UK?Strathclyde MBA does offer this. You may choose to study your elective subjects either in the University's main campus in UK, or any other international centres (there are 9 altogether). Thanks Regards, Edahani |

MBA grads & soon to be MBA grads, when is the right time to starting applying for a new job? Close to graduation or anytime throughout the course? Some schools also provide counselling/internship with their partnered companies.

QUOTE(erwinlee @ Feb 16 2016, 01:20 AM) Hello, I lost track of this thread 2 years ago after moving to SG from Australia. Planning to take on MBA in Malaysia due to cheaper cost and also I have accommodation and car in KL. Was thinking of doing full time in Nottingham initially but it seemed like Lancaster MBA and the Strathclyde MBA are the more recommended ones here. Any advice regarding this ? Are you going to be travelling back and forth from Australia to Malaysia during the course? Lancaster and Strathclyde MBA in Malaysia are both part time. There are exams and workshops quite often with the Lancaster MBA, so you need to check if it suits you. |
