Hi Guys!!

I knew that MacPro is really gorgeous & powerfull enough to edit DV / Beta using Final Cut. N its pretty fast too with 3D rendering & Motion FX. I have been experience working on it for a year plus.

But now i just having an idea to get 1 4 my self ( purpose= doing video editing + motion fx). Just confuse wether to get an MacPro or Macbook Pro for me.. Im just considering the price and machines speed & lifetime. In the aspect of pricing i feel i can get MacBook Pro which is stylish & just cost me around RM10,.+++. But 4 MacPro is going to be RM9999 which didnt yet include LCD.

But finally is it using FinalCut,AfterFX... on MacPro have same capability to do on Macbook Pro? For an example can i edit for broadcast or film using my Macbook Pro?

If the answer is yes im planning to get a Macbook Pro & another 24" LCD for dual screen purpose where i feel the extra point is its portable & i can do my work at any place.

Help me out guys....

i'm not sure if they've sorted out the problem with the new core 2 duo MBP but my core duo MBP zaps me all the time when it's plugged in. this didn't happen when i bought it and i really enjoyed it for like 2 months. but i guess the novelty has worn off now and i gotta admit, it's not a very well built laptop. i mean, notebook. you can't really put it on your lap, it's too darn hot. my dad has the same MBP as mine and its superdrive is not working anymore. well, just something to keep in mind.

My MBP used to "zap" me too whenever it's plugged in with the charger but it's all solved when I used the longer cable for the power plug instead of the one without cables. Not sure what's the reasoning behind this lol. As for heat issues, I've seen some test results comparing the operating temperature between CD and C2D mbp's. C2D mbp's are indeed much cooler. Also, you may wanna try smcFanControl and tune up your fan speeds. It'll be noisier but it's worth it if you wanna use it on your lap...

But guys im looking 4 suggestions that i could make my Macbook Pro as my workstations or not? Pls read my earlier topic

by saying that the MBP is plagued with problems i guess it's obvious that my thought is no. go with the Mac Pro. just my 2 cents.

Since the MacPro has hardly been out for six months it's quite suprising that you've been using it for a "year plus". My assumption would be that you're confusing the G5 with the MacPro and that is your yardstick for comparison.

In terms of raw speed for encoding digital video, the G5 desktop would still be faster than the MacBookPro. The MacPro obviously with the Dual-Xenon Quad-core would be in a different ballpark. Look up the benchies at BareFeats for this.

The advantage of the MacBookPro is portability. If you do your job on the move and require to get your processing done out of the office: then get the portable. If time is money: the MacPro. Factor in the need for storage space (Four SATA 3.5 drives which are user-swappable in the MacPro) versus the really small storage space available to you on the MBP. Rough rule of thumb: 10 mins of video equals 1 gig HD space. You do the math.

I would never use a laptop as my main machine. A travel companion maybe. But then again, how much work I will do when i travel??? A macbook + macpro is my choice.

It largely depends on what kind of video you're expecting to edit. Basic video with various effects here and there are still fine. I've edited using the rig on in my sig using Premiere and After Effects. It gets the job done. Rendering is left to overnight work.

On a general note, the latest desktops are always faster than the latest notebooks, so try and evaluate based on your usage.

Oops sorry man! Yes, 6 months ago im working with G5 and after that only i work with the Mac Pro. And thanks a lot guys 4 your suggestions. Really helpfull.

By the way, can u guys suggest me a good wide screen monitor ( NOT apples display) around 23"/24" which compatible with Windows and Mac?

This because im planning to upgrade my display 1st and then use 2gether with my old windows system for time being until i get my MacPro. I have no that much idea in current display systems. But 1 thing 4 sure apple cinema display going to cost me a lot n im not going 4 it.

Can u guys suggest me 1 with other brands n models ?
