APR = 4.355% p.a. BR is assuming no OPR hikes in 2016/2017.

All financial institution FD promotions are geared to end Q1 2016. Wait and see stance towards FED policy.

QUOTE(tbheng @ Jan 7 2016, 02:27 PM)
Went to BR planned to uplift my FD and move it to UOB 4.4%...
But was surprise the ABM offer the current promo 4.45% for 2year tenure.
Asked to nego, cannot nego.
So end up stay with BR with monthly interest. Good for not needing to visit another bank.  nod.gif

Just to share the promo details (refer the cert I attached below)
Bank: Bank Rakyat
FD rate : 4.45% p.a. monthly interest
FD Tenure : 2 years
Promo validity : 1 Jan - 31 Mar 2016
Min Amount : 50k

I asked for the brochure, ABM said not yet received from HQ. Asked for gift, got 2 towels, umbrella habis.
ABM said there was a FD promo for 12mth last month, now promo for 24mth. Surprise no one heard and reported here.
Took me ~40min to settle everything and collected the certs. Consider fast as compare to last time.

All FD rates ought to be quoted APR, just like your personal loans / CC interest etc.

BNM has not enforced it yet. A 3 month FD rate of 4.5%, APR = 1.125%.

APR is also known as effective rates per annum just in case.

RM 1million is nothing. It is kacang putih.

Even with RM1million in BR, I can only get 4.285% (almost 1 year ago). They were offering 4.285% to people who deposit rm500 as FD back then.

Anyway, small nuts lah these....

The monthly interest credited to CASA and is done automatically?

QUOTE(bbgoat @ Jan 21 2016, 01:18 PM)
OK, in BR to renew my FD and got the nego rate I mentioned before. No need to repeat here in case someone go and think that it is normal rate for BR.  tongue.gif Received PM asking about the nego rate.  biggrin.gif

Split into 4 certs and got monthly interest.

However was told that I could have gone there on Monday as there is another FD due which I got nego rate as well. Should have thought of that but the ABM did not tell me after I asked on the add'l FD due yesterday. BR has this flexibility of u can get FD cert within about 1 week after FD matured and the nego rate remains.

Anyway Monday have to go there for another FD, smaller amt, but part of the package of the 12 mth 4.x rate.  biggrin.gif

I had always thought that monthy credit to CASA was a "manual labour" affair.

You have gotten a great deal then, as I don't have it credited on monthly basis.

Yup and on the dot.  biggrin.gif

One more thing their system always change the FD maturity to working day. So today's renewal, maturity on Jan 23 2017.  biggrin.gif

Wow!! APR (effective interest p.a.) is only 4.354%. You can get better 1 year deals elsewhere.

BNM ought enforce the use of APR to provide consumers with correct choices to make.

I went to the BSN branch and they told me for 4.75% 5 years, only paid out every 12 months , i went on yesterday.
Can any1 get a confirmation from the BSN?

I don't envy receiving gifts, as long as they give the % interest in return.

However, it fathoms me when BR gives hampers to a millionnaire here, when I dont receive any, not even their matchat private banker cards despite having more than 50X what the millionnaire FD here has.

The other thing I dont like about BR is that despite having that particular FD earning 5%, they seem to register additional FDs as individuals. I have another 1mil FD earning 4.285% when the even give that 4.285% to individuals depositing RM500!!!

Poor customer service.

lo and behold...late last evening without prior notice, there were a few of BR staff incl. the branch manager who dropped by to hand deliver this to me in my office.

Looked like some Eu Yang Sang thing....

I requested 1 year 4.8% for year FD and they said they will call HQ and told me it should not be a problem. Fingers crossed. biggrin.gif
