Hello everyone,

As my viva mileage already reaching 170km, i will need to change my timing belt soon. Perhaps before it reach 180km.
So i did a survey on the price including labour to change the timing belt.

First shop quote me rm160 + rm80 (labour). He said it is original produa belt.

Second shop quote me rm250 + rm100 (labour). He said it is original perodua belt.

Third shop quote me rm350 in total. He said original perodua belt. He said expensive because all change like bearing.

Why the price variance is too big?

What is the normal price for standard original viva timing belt?

And normally when we change timing belt, it comes together with bearing all is it?

Thanks.

*********************

spoke to perodua sc ,

they quoted rm140+ for the timing belt, and around RM50 for alternator + power stereng + aircond belt, labour charge rm120
in total around rm300++ but not exceeding rm350
fair enough, at least peace of mind because confirm it is original

so i guess i will go to perodua sc for this.

Price difference depends on how much stuff you change, AFAIK, there is little to no standard at all when come to timing belt kit replacement.

Some argue the water pump should also be change, some says other wise.

Etc etc etc thus the price difference

Some people change just belt but standard service would be timing belt, bearing, oil seals. If not change bearing, maybe current bearing will wear out before new belt like make noise. Bearing should not be too expensive.

Here is the kit price (belt, bearing, seals)

Coz the price quote u listed fron 3 outside mech got hugh differences
To be safe...go back sc and i dont think it will cost you a fortune replacing it at sc

Coz viva is the cheapest car around and parts should be cheap too

Yes. If you go to buy personally at spare part shop also it will be like that in the picture. Workshop will mark up and also charge labor. I normally just buy the part at the shop and pay just for labor cost at workshop

Opss picture not in previous link. Like this

I think Kancil Kenari Viva 850cc 1000cc all the same. Spare part shop will ask if you want non-original or original if they are made. Normally they do not cheat, unless they themselves were conned by supplier. So, buy from known reputable shop biggrin.gif

Something that you will not have to change until it is faulty smile.gif Like leakage or engine temp high due to pump not operating properly (very unlikely I believe). I drove Viva for 8 years and never has it change. Just traded it for Axia because the engine mounting need change and I do not want to hold on to Viva because no more in production. I was assuming price drop and harder spare part. biggrin.gif

I think the timing belt also rotate the water pump like many car. It is engine belt driven. Water pump that is electrically operated probably in race car only since they need all the engine power to rotate tires laugh.gif

Normally water pump is changed when there is coolant or water leakage sign through the pump wink.gif
