The sequence is called "The Konami Code", can be found in a lot of Konami games. In Contra it give u 30 lives iirc. In Ninja Turtle 3 can possibly get stage select screen O_O

I think it's because the game is a pirate, that's why lousy.

That reminds me of another game: Somari. My cousin have the game, another pirate, can consider a Sonic 1 port combining Sonic 2 with Mario. Seeing it blew me away dispite some serious errors, they even manage to port the music quite well although not 100% accurate.
