55mm f1.8 (new) vs 50mm f1.4, is there any big diff btw these 2? the new one cost only 3k the 50mm cost about 5k. which one to pick? hmm

are u mean SEL55F18Z & SAL50F14Z? if yes, here's my knowledge

1st, SEL55F18Z is E-mount lens, which used with E-mount camera, and not compatible with A-mount. SAL50F18Z is A-mount lens, which used with A-mount camera. with certain lens adapter, u can mount A-mount lenses with E-mount camera, however u need to know the adapter compatibility before purchase

2nd, F1.4 DOF is slightly shallower than F1.8 DOF, although it may not so easy to notice. however, F1.4 has 1/3 stop faster than F1.8, thus it's has a slight edge in low-light photography. but again, if u using E-mount camera, u need an adapter for attach the A-mount lenses to E-mount camera

both Zeiss lenses optical quality is quite good

my personal opinion, SEL55F18Z is very good enough

Other than canon aps-c sensor, you times the lens focal length by a factor of 1.5
32mm x 1.5 = 48mm

so if i get a 50mm and use it on full frame, can I say 32mm on aps-c can achieve the same bokeh?

given that 50mm f1.8 on full frame and the 32mm f1.2 on aps-c and both shoot wide open, more or less you will get the same bokeh iinm..

f1.8 x 1.5 so 32mm zeiss bokeh is like kit-lens

Thing is, if u want 50mm angle of view of a full frame but you're using apsc, your only choice is 35mm (as there are no 32mm lenses)

There are plenty of cheap 35mm apsc lenses out there. I'm assuming you're using an Apsc E mount camera, there's the SEL 35/1.8. Won't cost u an arm and a leg at rm1k thereabouts.

U want to future proof yourself? There's 35/2.8FE and 35/1.4FE both from Sony/Zeiss, not Zeiss Zeiss. These will probably make a dent in your wallet though.

Above mentioned are only native Sony E mount lenses, I've not gone into Zeiss E mount yet eg. Loxia. And also manual lenses. And also adaptable lenses from ANYYYYY makers out there with an adapter.

if you're going that route might as well get the sigma 30 f2.8. or wait a lil while for the new sigma 30 f1.8 yummy.
