I would listen Metallica from the very first album until Reload.... just no St.Anger please.

Nowadays, rather listen to Megadeth for quality mainstream heavy metal/thrash metal music.

Metallica seems to be lost in their direction nowadays. Anyway, still looking forward to their newer materials. Hopefully it wont be as crappy as St.Anger.

if you didn't mention Master of Puppets then you aren't a metallica fan..

and now after playing megadeath's songs in Guitar Hero 1 and 2, i think they are better or at least to my taste than metallica, at least the solos dont play on the same scale as Kirk always do..

I'm listening to Bluegrass metallica right now

http://www.amazon.com/Fade-Bluegrass-Tribu...a/dp/B0000CC866

But actually, the more I listen to megadeth, the more I prefer them to Metallica. Not to take away anything from Metallica.....Master of Puppets, One, The Four Horsemen, Orion, Seek & Destroy........... All great in their own right.....

But to my personal taste, I'm starting to prefer Megadeth's riffs and solos over Metallica. Maybe I'm just so jaded with metallica over the years....... and maybe because i'm so pissed off with St. Anger.

Ok, in that case we'll move it to a more focused Musician's debate.....

The one thing I don't agree with alot of people is their sound.... ok, Kill 'em all was pretty grimy and dirty, but the rest.... I dunno. Not a big fan of Kirk's "Californian Smile" EQ..... but I DO like their Mesa/Boogie sound..... But St. Anger just sucked all around....... and WTF was Lars banging on? Garbage Cans? But according to critics, their live sound is much much much much better.

But their Signature ESP guitars...... Kirk's guitars look all the same to me, and I already gave my views on the Truckster. Gibson should release James's signature Les Paul...... the black one with the Gold cross and racing stripes......... That is one amazing sounding guitar.

Their mesa boogie sound is what makes their sound so distinctive and makes alot of their fans to try and recreate the sound. I've to admit though, very very dissapointed with St.Anger. Metallica could have done better than that. And yes, ive to agree that the more you listen to megadeth, the more you appreciate them. Their solos are more fluid unlike kirks same E-G-E-G-E-G-E-G movements. THen again, kirk did make some good solos(fade to black, master of puppets anyone?)

Talking about ESP. If metallica no more using ESP, what would it be?Say change to gibson?ESP is too....pricey man. also ESP guitars have some models look kinda same with Gibson Lp/Sg always make me confuse lol cuz still new about guitar.

Dude, you DO know you can edit your posts instead of posting 3 times??

And ESP started off (like many other japanese companies) started off making knock-off or copies of bigger American guitars...... so you'll definitely see the resemblance...What makes ESP so attractive to artists is that they can come up with custom models in relatively fast manner...... that's why Alexi Laiho switched anyway.....

And yes.... Metallica has been so closely associated with ESP (Remember the One video? Man..... I miss that ESP strat!) that it's hard to imagine them with other companies.......
But then again...... even a person like Zakk Wylde who has been associated with Gibson for so long, now occasionally moonlights with even Dean and Jackson guitars..........

We're bashing them BECAUSE they made such great music in the past. Yes, it isn't easy. But when you should know crap when you smell crap..... and St. Anger was most definitely crap.......

Hype was also part of the factor and we all know that it's almost impossible to replicate Master Of Puppets...... but on the flip side, look at Trivium's The Crusade.... It sounded more like Metallica then Metallica.... at least if we're talking about St. Anger. If Trivium actually wrote all the songs, played all the instruments but let James sing all the parts..... you'd swear that it was Metallica reborn. Heck, you don't even need James... Matt Heafy is sounding more like James Hetfield anyways!!

It's not like the bag of ideas is empty..... there never WAS a bag in the first place.... but Metallica should really try harder then that. Seeing the Some Kind Of Monster Rockumentary..... you can understand that it's not easy writing material that the audience expects to preceed all their other work.... but common!!!!! Don't sell out your fans like that and later covering up and saying that "we make music for ourselves and what we want to hear"......

But not ALL Metallica is bad. There still is a F**K ton of room for improvement. I even hear rumors of Matt Heafy and Kirk Hammett teaming up..... And I admit, S&M sounded like an idea doomed to fail, but I quite enjoyed it actually.....
So here's a shot of whiskey to a better Metallica and to erase St. Anger out of our minds......

Master of puppet is great too. I'm not a big fan, its just that I enjoy some their song.

S&M - some of the song really sound great with the ochestra. Some of the songs sound better without them IMO
