Hi sifus, just curious, let say the folding bike is not folded, can it be put in a normal car, eg myvi, at the back seat leg room?

QUOTE(etigge @ Mar 2 2016, 10:02 AM) Yes they can be fitted into the rear passenger seat but WHY ? It's foldable anyway, isn't that the purpose of a foldie? Also you need to take precaution as the lubricant from the chain will stain your seats. Normally they will push the front passenger seat as far as possible to the front and load the bike from the rear driver side door. They even fit in a road bike this way, off course with the front wheel taken out. I can fit 2 mountain bikes into the rear passenger seat with all wheels taken off. actually my idea is get a mini velo... but seems like cannot fit inside the car with the wheel on.... hmm |

hi sifu etigge,
is it advisable to get java fit/pro 451, 8 speed version and modified to 10 speed? or better get the dual chain ring become 20 speed? or don't bother to modify, save money get better bike? how about cheaper bike like trinx 7 spd? Compatible of original wheel (7/8 speed) to 10 speed cassette how to check? If modify, road system or mtb system better for foldie? Thanks sifu! QUOTE(etigge @ Sep 21 2016, 12:31 PM) Java is one brand that uses bike specs to promote their bikes. So, my guess is to get their best specs that you can afford. We as consumer can never get OEM components as the manufacturers can. Drawback is, for us, we know what the good components are and usually good components are those popular ones and Shimano or SRAM never sells them cheaply either unless they are the older models and they are trying to clear them, not to say they are not good. You just need to find out what's good and what's not so good. Thanks for the reply. From your opinion, Java frame good enough? Or any good but still not too expensive frame to start with? Dahon?I ususally like to start from the core. The frame ! From then on I start to assemble what components I like. USually the outlay is higher but it's cheaper in the end compared to getting one with the same specs from the branded manufacturer. Anyway, most bikers are not that well versed in the specifics of biking in the early stages so they are not as critical. If you are serious rider, you will find out later, there's no short cut either unless you are those rich wallet fellas who wants the best but under utilise the capability of the components. Happens a lot in mountain biking. I would suggest using roadbike components on folding bikes. Java latest FIT is 18 speed, which cost around 1750. Can i build one, 10/20 speed with similar budget? PS: no rich wallet, poor man here. This post has been edited by tiewgine8039: Sep 21 2016, 02:20 PM |

QUOTE(etigge @ Sep 21 2016, 08:14 PM) There is a frame made by Litepro and named Crius. Also there's a model made exactly like the Tern Verge. The importer brought in 3 units and today I met the guy in Ipoh and he said, it took him ages to sell the bikes. Funnily, this brand sells like hotcakes in Singapore and Thailand. If you talk to Jimmy of Kimbell Jaya Bikes, he can order the frame and maybe a complete bike with 9 speed. Don't know exactly the cost but from what I heard from the importer, the whole 18 speed bike is sub 10 kgs. Maybe keep this in mind as an option. In regards to whether it can be within 1750 for 18 speed, you can talk to Jimmy and check it out. Big thanks!!!! I will look into it.Also Crius also has a frame that looks like Dahon Speed which should be cheaper than the Verge version. ![]() So much info from this group! Appreciate a lot! |

QUOTE(tcb2010 @ Sep 22 2016, 01:28 AM) If I would have known more when I started on folding bike, I would have just save a couple hundred more to like rm2500, and get a dahon 10 speed or 18 speed..like the MU model..and I am pretty sure it will be a better bike then the javas is this the dahon MU you talk about? Looks goodhttp://bicyclebuysell.com/item/352499/daho...16-folding-bike Initially i thought to get a cheaper foldie, to cycle to work, as RB too big to store. Seems like better invest a bit more in better bike. Dahon Dash, good? I like the look of dash, minivelo-like which can fold |

QUOTE(CrazyGrandpa @ Oct 31 2016, 04:56 PM) Hey Guys, I am new to folding bike and also aiming to buy which is under < 2k . Been having the same idea also. There are several brands I am looking at like JAVA, dahon and TERN, but obviously tern is slightly over my budget. I was comparing JAVA vs dahon, it seems JAVA have better spec like 18/16 speeds , dahon 7/8 speeds, JAVA disc break, dahon rim brake, etc. Also hardly can see review for JAVA folding bike, but the design is really cool. Can share your idea based on past experiences ? Thanks guys The tern verge is so nice! Too bad miss the deal, where verge n8 offered at RM2240. Now according to rodalink boss, n8 is out of stock whole malaysia. Saw this tern verge x10, sexy piece of machine, but price.... can only afford java fit...😭 Attached thumbnail(s) |

QUOTE(azamunekurone @ Oct 31 2016, 09:46 PM) to complete like this takes me nearly 2 years to finalized it.if i do it all at one time, for sure my poket will "koyak" Pricy sure do, but final product must be satisfying. Top end frame with top end components! Hope someday can afford that as well.if u can spent more, i would recomend java ira. 18speed sora with prowheel hollowtech crank. some more with 451 wheelset, caliper brakes and half carbon fork for me that was a good performance bike! About Java ira, can elaborate more on which part better than Java fit 18s? Spec of Java fit 18s copy from bobs as follow: Java Fit 18s Frame: FIT Aluminium 7005 Fork: Alloy 7005 Rim: DECA Alloy 20" Seal Bearing with Disc Brake Tire: CST 20 x 1.35 Gear: 9" Shimano Altus (18 speed) Shifter: Shimano Altus Rear Derailleur: Shimano Sora 9S Front Derailleur: Shimano Claris Crank: Pro wheel 39 - 52T Seat Post: Deca Aluminium 33.9" (size) Cassette: 11-28T Java ira Spec : - Chromoly frame - Carbon Fork - Shimano Sora 18 speed - Prowheel Hollow Crank - Deca Cattiva 451 High Profile Wheelset From what I only know is different in carbon fork. Other not quite understand the difference. Thanks sifu azam! This post has been edited by tiewgine8039: Oct 31 2016, 10:23 PM |
