hi all,

i applied for PwC around at the start of june and received a reply that says that they're reviewing my application 2 weeks later. since it was raya holidays, i gave them few more days but i havent heard from them sad.gif

so i decided to be more proactive (ok only after reading this thread) i called twice just now and got through! (caught me by surprise bc i thought no one would pick up like the first time before lunchtime)

the lady who picked up my call sounded friednly and asked for my name to search in their database. she even asked me to spell my name lol. then she said 'i'll ask the recruiter to call you back". i was still shocked and too nervous at this point.. so i said great and thanks for your help (something like that). END

does that mean i will get a call? or is that just a nice way to say i got rejected? (i called this afternoob and i know maybe she might be too busy to get back today but im so freaking nervous!)

HR currently is having its peak season(july), so they might not able to review on your application. You can try call back on August to ask for further progress.

thanks for the reply smile.gif my bf is telling me stay positive on it but my parents are telling me to giv up on PwC.. i already feel like i'm being rejected when i saw the above post on going for the pwc interview sad.gif

usually for big4, they will have 2 main intake per year which is Sept and April. However, there are adhoc intakes, and this is usually before the peak period as they need more headcount. So if you are interested in audit, they usually will consider take in people from Aug to Dec so that they have the manpower to audit the December year end companies.  smile.gif  smile.gif  smile.gif

okay! i will try to call in again soon smile.gif thanks for the info ya, i read about a guy with the same situation in this thread but he didnt update on what happened in the end. i honestly thought i was already rejected since they didn't call back.

I did get a call in the end, 5-6 months after i applied thumbup.gif

-----------------------------------------
Well, the reason I'm writing this post is because I haven't really seen anyone post a full rejection story so I'll gladly share mine to help out any other poor or suffering soul who is stuck in the same situation as I was. This story in particular is about PwC which was my first choice (that's why very sad la T_T)

I wrote a post about whether to give up on my PwC application some time ago. I applied in June, tried calling like crazy in July but just could not get through. Luckily, I was advised in this forum to try in August. My phone call managed to get through in August and they told me that the next intake is in December but I would get a call in September if I made it otherwise I could call back. They only have selected intakes per year and the closing date for each intake is quite early. My application in June would mean that it would be considered for next upcoming intake in December.

So, I finally made the big call today (though I already kind of knew I was probably not selected) and it took me a few tries to finally get through to the department + connected to the recruiter in charged. The recruiter was pretty busy (internship recruitment period too I guess) so my morning call was wasted but I was told to call back around lunchtime. I did that and she was on the line - so I was told to call back like half and hour later. I did but line didn't go through, took me about a few more tries before I was lucky.

The recruiter was very busy but nice enough to answer my questions (I'm not going to reveal her name here but yes, it was a lady recruiter). I asked about my application status and I was told that their next intake is in January 2018. Reason given was that they had only a few positions available in December which is already full. She also mentioned that if I made it for the January intake, I would receive a call at the end of this month/early next and also kindly reminded me to update my PwC profile. Of course I was not so silly to not be able to read in between the lines that I was not selected.

I was feeling a bit dejected just now. Since receiving my "we're currently reviewing your application" in June about 2 weeks from my application date, I had some hope that I might make it. At least I did not receive a straight-out "we don't have a position that matches your qualification" email like my friend. But looking back, maybe that would have been better from the start rather than waiting and hoping like crazy. sighs Even till the end, I was not rejected outright (which I don't know to feel thankful for or cry about it).

That's the end flex.gif good luck to anyone else who is job-searching!

Do you mind to share what is your qualification?
I was told you can easily get into the interview stage if you have ACCA qualification rather a bachelor degree holder. hmm.gif
Then from that interview, they can find out whether you are not capable for the job.
*
Then you heard correctly?
I forgot to mention that I am a bachelor degree holder cry.gif
So far I have not heard anything about it is hard to get into PwC if you are a bachelor degree holder?
But I do know a few people (acquaintances only though) who work in PwC and yes, they are ACCA holders

According to my survey, that's a yes.
I'm currently an ACCA student, and one of my lecturers is from KPMG with a very high post
Plus I've been to the talk given by partners from EY.

And they all say the same thing, go get the ACCA first, then come to apply. You will get the job if you pass the interview.

Ok, thank you for the feedback
I was hoping to get a job in one of the big4s so that I could bond with them for my prof papers

Hi!

I think it is not necessary to have ACCA to join big 4. I am just a degree holder but I did take one extra professional ppr on part time basis when I was in uni. I have known some friends who do that as well. Mostly from the local public U and local private U. Their Unis have such arrangement for their students. However, my friend got accepted by PwC as well. She took zero additional ppr but she graduated with a first class. I think it is easier to enter if you have a decent result. Of course, your performance and add experience will be other important factors as well. I think you might just try applying to those firms out there. My own experience concluded that some might reject you but some sure will accept you. I know that KP is recruiting for Oct intake. Stay positive!

Good Luck!! smile.gif

thank you for the feedback!
i was really hoping for PwC though I was only a second class upper + knowing it's super hard to get into PwC sad.gif but yes, fingers crossed for another firm

you can join big 4 without ACCA ..

sometimes there are better candidates than you during their selection (doesn't automatically mean you're inferior to them)

there are still 3 out of 4 chances left for you if u dead set in joining big 4
*
yea i'm sure there are others who have better qualifications.. i'll definitely try my luck with the other 3, hopefully 1 of them will accept me smile.gif

You really not need ACCA to join Big 4. Myself and my coursemate which from one of the public uni and not yet complete ACCA exam but we still manage to joined Big 4. You can try to apply another 3 too.  Good luck in job hunting.
*
hard to say cause you're at least halfway to finishing ACCA smile.gif i heard that ACCA holders can apply if they're like 1 or 2 papers away from completing yea? i definitely will smile.gif thank you!

Your welcome. nod.gif

My advice is if you really want to get into Big4, go finish the P papers first, and get ACCA.
*
I will definitely consider that as another option if I can't get into 1 of the other 3 smile.gif fingers crossed

hello

could someone elaborate on the 4 audit departments in EY? i just passed the HR screening (super nervous!) and it caught me offguard because i just sent in my application last friday

one of the questions i was asked was which industry i would prefer because they would try to match me with the manager of that department for the interview. i answered that my options were open😅😅 and the recruiter seems to be amused and told me that i could request subject to that department manager’s availability

Do you like financial institutions? If yes, request for that dept.

If not, do you want to stay in audit forever? If no, google and find the company you would like to join in future. Read their annual report and identify their auditor. If it’s EY, find the name of partner and ask HR which department that is. Then request to join / interview with that dept manager.  Clients like to recruit their external auditors to become their accountant / finance manager to deal back with the external auditors. You will learn the beauty of it after few years.

One way to impress the HR and to separate yourself from the others. Risks: higher expectation.

thank you so much! guess i’ll be busy the next few days doing my research then

another question to ask - with big companies like the big4, is am i suppose to nego my salary even at entry level? (if i’m asked during interview)?

for some reason i thought i wouldnt need to since i’m just a fresh grad/entry level but a few friends brought it up when we had dinner yesterdy. they were always asked by the managers during the knterview (they applied to banks) but i havent heard anything bout the big4. maybe it’s at the contract offer stage? or is it non-nego?

someone suggested to throw a higher rate out (lets say 3k if you wanted 2.8k) since they would lower whatever you suggested anyway. i was told that the current rate is min 2.8-3 for entry level at big4. any suggestions on how to go anout this if i’m asked during interview? i honestly dont mind 2.8k just that if you can nego for higher why not?

I recently got a job offer at EY and they are offering me RM3.1k inclusive of allowance. The salary at EY should be around there for everyone I think? I had an interview with the senior manager and he didn’t ask for salary or anything and even my friend wasn’t asked. Maybe it’s best to not ask? Not so sure though. Good luck with your interview!
*
thank you sheyhere ☺️ i wasn’t planning to ask, just incase that i was asked haha.

your situation is exactly whats in my head, that’s why i was surprised to hear about my friends’ experience. but then again they were interviewing for banks.

non-negotiable. Because they pay the top graduate within this range, unless you possess something extraordinary.  icon_idea.gif

KPMG and EY pay above 3k. (inclusive allowance
Delotie pay around 3k. (inclusive allowance
Pwc 2.8k +150 allowace

#provided that you passed one of the professional qualifications. if not, no extra allowance for you.

i'm just one of the ordinary ones only sweat.gif
and no, haven't gotten my prof papers, just a degree holder
thank you for the info!

Well if they do ask you, you should then put at least RM3k because that’s the current salary at big 4 I think hehe. I know that Deloitte offers RM3k & my friend at KPMG got offered RM2800. So RM3k should be reasonable. They do have a section in the form later that you need to fill stating “Expected salary.”

okay got it smile.gif thanks ya
oh, and was the interview very hard?
i just finished the personality test and she told me that subject to passing that
she might be able to arrange an interview for me this week since i told her i'm in kl atm (i'm staying in my hometown now)
so i'm rushing to do my research
i think i'm quite lucky if i can get into EY because i was told it's for the december intake
