anyone here in IT Audit ? How is it ? as compared to external audit? Because I am planning to take CISA and eventually try IT audit afterward.

It is hard for a account-degree background to do IT audit ?

Hello, I've gotten an offer letter from EY to intern in assurance. I've mentioned to them my 1st preference is HPI and 2nd preference is NRG. I am interested in these 2 groups but have little knowledge about it. Is there any senior or kind soul mind sharing to me about these 2 groups (clients, travelling, people, culture, OT)? Pretty please notworthy.gif

If full time, can I leave when I finished my work or is there a culture where I need to stay with them until the end?
*
First of All, i am not from big4, but midtier instead, but i think thing work similarly.

If at Office
Answer : I would suggest you ask the senior whether is there any urgent thing need help if you have the job booking on that day. If she /he does not have urgent task for you, i guess you can leave first. I usually cabut early if i am in office, cause senior usually sit at difference place laugh.gif

If at client place
Answer : try ask your senior whether can you back first , or anything urgent that need you to help up on the day. Otherwise try ask the senior whether they still need you or not when you already completed your section AWP.

For me:
If let say got dinner / dates, i will just tell the senior , i would like to leave early today due blablabla. (*provided you go client place by your own, not car pooling with the senior)

But it is better to stay up and help up other team member's work even though you already completed those section allocated to you. (especially during audit fieldwork period)

Just my 2cent.

Wondering if someone willing to share insight on KPMG Tax.

My uni batch mate got offer for KPMG tax. Supposed to do medical next week. BUT we just heard from friend in another Big 4 that kpmg tax department is "collapsing", bad bonuses in Feb and now some big restructuring because bosses all fighting and always blame and bully staff. Is this true or exaggeration? Sounds very scary if it's true but need to verify rumour or truth.

Now my friend big dilemma because she's still waiting for other firms to reply her but now dunno if she should do her medical now and reject kpmg if other firms offer her. If big 4 don't take her, are small firms ok? She thinking BDO maybe.

If you are from kpmg can you help confirm the situation in tax? I thought tax normally quite ok.

Definitely go for Big4 . Big4 > midtier

Hi guys, I am a fresh graduate looking for audit associate position in Big4s as well as Medium size firm.

May I know what is the processing time for Application for most of the mid-term firm like Mazars, Bakertilly or Crowe Horwath ?

Besides, Is it possible for me to apply for audit associate position if I don't possessed my own transport? I am staying far away from the big firms and it takes me approximately 1 hour to work if happens that they recruit me.

Really need some advice on this. Much appreciate if you can give some feedback on this thumbsup.gif
*
Why Not ?
Most of the people probably reach office around 9am+-, so discipline yourself and manage the time nicely.

I used to tavel to work by public transport (LRT) when i was with one of the medium size firm in KL.

Fyi,
CH located at Jalan Yap Kwan Seng which is accessible from KLCC LRT station
Mazars located at Wisma Selangor Dredging, which is accesible from KLCC LRT station
Bakertilly located at Bangsar South which is accessible from Kerinchi LRT station
EY, KP, Deloitte are accessible from new MRT.
PWC located KL sentral

Actually EY, Deloitte and KPMG are reachable by MRT; but as auditors you won't be spending a lot of time in office. As to where you are going to work depends on what clients you are assigned to.

If you have access to public transport and do not want to rely on carpool with senior or uber/grab, you can apply to work for banking/insurance industries. Most of the financial institution offices are located in central KL and would be accessible by public transport

But I think the previous advice is true, focus on getting a job first, the transport issue can be sorted out later.
*
thanks to the new MRT.

Anyway, just ask your senior to fetch you ( meet at a point which is convienient for both of you guys). laugh.gif

Hey there,

May I know how long is your travelling time to office? Is an hour of travelling time to KL using LRT is consider long for you?
And do you encounter any problem when you work overtime (e.g: OT until mid night, LRT has closed)?

This is my main concern regarding working in KL. I don't mind working long hour, just that if I was to OT until midnight, how am I going back home?

Ya I have done my research on the company location before I sent I application as I don't possess my own transport.

Thank you for the information btw  biggrin.gif
*
40 Minutes if i recall correctly , travelled from KJ to KLCC,
i usually left the office before the LRT closed.

I didnt work very late while i was in KL, maximum 11pm / or work from home after office hour.

Anyway, i dont think first year associate need to work till midnight

I have rejected the MNC interview as I definitely wouldn't accept this job.

I actually only hope to get into medium firm. My cocu wasn't good enough to enter into big firm.

Anyone of you heard of russell bedford? I am looking for medium size firm which located nearby lrt. Any suggestions ?

Thank you for the info! And I think all i can do now is just wait for their call or reply
*
Mid tier firm like BDO, CH, BT, Mazars are located nearby lrt.

Hi, it is interesting to read the discussions here.

I got a call from one of the big4 and they emailed me a preliminary assessment, the assessment looks like a personality test and I answered it with my first instinct as the instruction required me to do so. At first I thought the result will only be referred by the HR to understand more about myself but I am extremely surprise to receive an email from them replying that the firm will not proceed my application anymore the following day after the assessment. The questions were all MCQ, very subjective with no exact answers for each questions. I am wondering how a firm can judge a person by only referring to the result of a 20 minutes test. Its quite upsetting... Anyone knows what are the problems or reasons behind this? I am just a little curious about it. Thanks
*
should be KPMG?

I failed that too last time.

still have another 3 big4 to try!

Hi all seniors,

i am currently a senior year 2 in one of the midtier SG. Recently, i just gotten PWC SG offer in SME dept as senior year 1.

Shall i stay put and chiong up in my current mid-tier (probably need 1.5 yr more to reach AM in my current firm) or go over?

Pros if going over: $ , branding ,

Cons if going over: not sure about the job exposure, dont have listed co in SME dept , job portfolio might be small.

Future goal : Thinking to switch to internal audit.

Looking forward to get input from you guys.

Thank you

You can try SME first then ask for MNC. If you want internal audit in banks, better get engaged with banking client. Banks very different compared to companies
*
Nope. i target those MNCs internal audit. I dont think i stand a chance for internal audit in bank as i dont have financial services audit exposure.
