QUOTE(kanikani @ Sep 11 2017, 05:05 PM)
Well, the reason I'm writing this post is because I haven't really seen anyone post a full rejection story so I'll gladly share mine to help out any others who are stuck in the same situation as me.

I wrote a post about whether to give up on my PwC application some time ago. I applied in June, tried calling like crazy in July but was advised in this forum to try in August. My phone call managed to get through in August and they told me that the next intake is in December but I would get a call in September if I made it otherwise I could call back.

So, I finally made the big call today (though I already kind of knew I was probably not selected) and took me like a few tries to finally get through. The lady in charge was pretty busy (internship recruitment period too I guess) and I was told that their next intake is in January 2018. Reason given was that they had only a few positions available in December which is already full. Of course I was not so silly to not be able to read in between the lines that I was not selected.

I'm just feeling bit dejected now. Since receiving my "we're currently reviewing your application" in June about 2 weeks from my application date, I had some hope that I might make it. At least I did not receive a straight-out "we don't have a position that matches your qualification" email like my friend. But looking back, maybe that would have been better from the start rather than waiting and hoping like crazy. Although I was told that if I made it I would receive a call at the end of this month/early next (also reminded I could update my PwC profile), I finally have given up on any hope I have or had on being an audit associate there and move on to other opportunities.

Do you mind to share what is your qualification?
I was told you can easily get into the interview stage if you have ACCA qualification rather a bachelor degree holder. hmm.gif
Then from that interview, they can find out whether you are not capable for the job.

Then you heard correctly?
I forgot to mention that I am a bachelor degree holder  cry.gif
So far I have not heard anything about it is hard to get into PwC if you are a bachelor degree holder?
But I do know a few people (acquaintances only though) who work in PwC and yes, they are ACCA holders
*
According to my survey, that's a yes.
I'm currently an ACCA student, and one of my lecturers is from KPMG with a very high post
Plus I've been to the talk given by partners from EY.

And they all say the same thing, go get the ACCA first, then come to apply. You will get the job if you pass the interview.

Ok, thank you for the feedback 😊
I was hoping to get a job in one of the big4s so that I could bond with them for my prof papers

Your welcome. nod.gif

My advice is if you really want to get into Big4, go finish the P papers first, and get ACCA.

I'm an acca affiliate now, but all my marks are less than 55.

I'm also a degree holder (commerce) with 3.30 cgpa.

In short although i officially hold both qualifications, the marks are not that amazing, look at acca, all barely passed, for my degree i got failed 2 subjects before, the ending cgpa just passed the big 4 threshold of 3.20.

Do u think my chances are slim as well? Since u said the results need to be extremely strong.

EDIT: Cocu not strong too
*
sometimes it also depends on the interviewer too
like my lecturer is from kpmg tax, high post, only under 1 person

she always share his stories in the class

she told us, personally she doesnt really care about the marks or whatsoever, if you can find a way to enter the f2f interview section, then its good already
she claimed she's quite sincere during the interviewing process, will tell them what will you face, like your job, long working hours and so on
if you can pick up the challenges then you will be hired

what she really cannot tahan is, during interview say yes yes yes, and after working for a very short period, den resign
she will very geram den blacklist this person, good luck finding job la tongue.gif

So I think, if you can prove to the interviewer you can actually take up the challenges, then you will get high chance
The interview section is very important

Quite normal bro, i have two friend, two different qualification, one is second upper degree and acca affiliate, and another is second lower degree and still pending 2 paper for acca, guess who in? The one worh lower qualification.
*
It really depends, but acca affiliate is always on the high ground
because they dont need to spend too much resources on you

attitude is important
the way how you speak during interview too

she told us last time she interview a graduate and that person said "Im telling you..."
and got backfired, she terus say "im your boss im telling you are not getting the job" laugh.gif

1. If they have no time they shouldn't conduct the interview I guess, if manager didn't ask enough, he/she cannot know the applicant better, I wonder how they arrive at a hiring decision? Based on mood? Looks? I'm quite worry if what you said in point 1 is true because it would mean the hiring rate is based on luck alone. So many questions he didn't ask me, which means I will have less chance to present myself. On the other hand, I do hope he ended the interview so soon is because that he had made his mind to hire or not, hopefully positive answer...

2. I didn't see any candidate around me. Maybe I'm the last one? Morning by the way
*
About the 1), I have an example related to your concern

Lets say there are 20 finalists, all of them are well-fitted for the job.
But only 10 need to be hired. So how to choose?

Then external factor will come in.
This guy is more handsome so I choose him, this person looks honest, this girl looks beautiful.
Uhmm this one looks chubby(fat) no thanks, this has a lot of pimples also no...

this is also another factor, i think personally
like of course you want someone you like to work with you
thats why first impression is important

so always try to strike every factor
because at the final stage, everyone is the same
same qualification, zero to little working experience, etc

of course this is only applies to freshie or to compete with person with the same level as you

In my opinion I think male interviewer will prefer females? All my male interviewers rejected me, but female interviewers love me, I'm quite good looking btw.
I was praying for a female interviewer in pwc but nope, I hope things do go well.
*
Yep law of attraction bro

if you lengzhai, fit, wear nicely, talk like gentleman, then female interviewer will tend to favor you more
same goes to girls lah vice versa mah

but I think you crossed the line abit? About well-prepared and over-prepared for the interview
becuz I saw you even prepared for some question like 'whats the length of bus/airplane'
is this even related to audit meh laugh.gif

because if i were the interviewer, and you answered me an exact amount like 9.5 meter, I would just think this person is good at memorizing, nothing special
but if you improvise and answer like this(i simply make up the answer ya)
"A bus is about the length of 2.5 sedan cars. 2 of me equals to a car. And Im about 1.75m tall. So a sedan car is about 3.5m. Then a bus is maybe about 10m."

Ya know something like improvisation? I think that answer will better than giving the exact length of a bus.

Because normally our english is not that good at speaking, you can easily spot a person does he memorize a whole answer or say whatever he knows in his mind.
If I know this guy memorized everything from a script, then whats the point of interview? Because every question I ask you will just pour out the answer you had memorized.
Then how do I know more about you? I think this is also one of the factors bah hmm.gif

Yeah I tried to cover as many questions as possible, because I'm not the person who can promptly answer everything, even though the story really happened before I couldn't explain it properly if you ask me on the spot, I need to prepare.

The questions (bus length) clearly is not related to audit, more like how you will react to the question, I also already planned the answer, similar to what you made up, but a refined version. I wouldn't say the exact length directly, no point.

And yes that's what I mean, in the beginning I'm afraid I may looked like I already memorized the script, but along the way I acted more natural even though it is from the script as well. But do note that whatever is in my script is real, just that I need to structure the words and sequence properly so I can present it.

I'm afraid he will noticed that I have a script in mind and doesn't want to continue interviewing further, but in the positive side it could be viewed as this person is fully prepared, the interpretation is different from person to person, I hope he interpreted in the positive way.
*
Yea, since you already tried your best, just let God do the rest la

not like you can do anything now

more important is to stay positive and wait

all the best! icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi all seniors and sifus,

If join Kpmg in July 2018, will get to progress to AA 2 in June 2019 (1 year experience). But according to 1 senior in KPMG, the chances of dealing with small clients will be quite high if I join KPMG.

If join EY in June 2018, will get to progress to AA2 in October 2019 (1 year and 6 month). But the chances of dealing with big clients will be higher.

My goal is to have 2-3 experience in audit and then shift to Singapore Big 4.

Normally Singapore Big 4 will decide my position based on my number of years of experience or what position I'm holding in Msia Big4? I heard Singspore Big 4 tend to lower 1 grade, is it true?

In deep dilemma, which one should I should? Is there any possibility that EY let AA to progress to AA2 in June?

I can answer this question. They require 3 years of experience for senior associate position. So you need to stay at least 3 not 2 in local then try to jump to SG.

Rest i cannot answer since i dont have any experience yet tongue.gif

Hi all,

I am a degree holder currently studying towards my last two professional level papers of ACCA. I have not got any internship before.

Recently I got an offer from EY to start in October 2018 at KL office.  The position offered is Audit Associate 1.

The quoted monthly salary is RM2.85k + RM250 Flexicare.

Just wondering if the salary quoted is considered as low? As some friends of mine told me that fresh graduate should receive at least RM3k and above.

Much thanks!
*
As far as i know by reading all the threads here, in KL usually the Big4 offer RM3k++ on average for new ACCA graduate.
And also a degree holder will get few hundreds less.

So in your case I think its the market rate for you?
But don't worry you will get adjustment as soon as you finish your ACCA.

Year 1 associate here in KPMG penang. Due to super high turnover rate and all the seniors leaving, we have to do literally all sections except inventory.  Interns replace our job in that sense.  Unhealthy workforce where year 1 associates >50% of total workforce (AM & below), some more partner still take in more and more engagements without increasing the workforce.

I guess u give and take, where everyday u got loads of new info coming in and u need to cope as fast as lightning.  The formal training is way more slower than what we had already learn informally.

overall the experience is beneficial if you are ok with learning new things every 2 weeks or so, given u deal with different clients of different industry (i.e some aunties u need to sweettalk them so u get the info u need).  stress is there everyday and it gets larger and larger.  if u want a steady pace of learning + training maybe consider other firms

just apply.

heard stories + my observation is that referral at fresh grad level = fast track the process to interview stage only which you would get to anyway if you pass the initial screening. for interns intake - apply early (dont last minute apply, nov/dec intake you should apply at least 3 months in advance = early sept)

referrals are more useful or helpful when the person being referred to is being recruited in as an experienced hire.

Finally a reply from someone tongue.gif
Because Im still waiting for my F7,F8,F9 results which will be published around 16th of this month. I only will apply once I passed the F level.

Thankie

just my 2 cents
this thread was very useful in my job search especially if you look back at the posts since second half of last year's posts, many fresh grads posted their stories and comments while seniors gave helpful advice

best takeway from this thread (for me at least) was -
if you take away your accounting qualification, what else do you have?
ie what makes you different from the crowd

a bit of my experience -
frankly, during my interview phases in the big4s, i can say that everyone is just as qualified as you (with or without prof paper) and some even made me feel intimidated and not so confident because they left 1 or 2 prof papers.  however, i try to keep in mind that if i'm not qualified they wouldnt even waste time interviewing me right. so, just go in and showcase what i have laugh.gif

anyway long story short - one of the key reasons as to whether you'll pass the interview stage (put aside the academic qualification) is your soft skills and lots of preparation beforehand biggrin.gif
*
Will take note of that.
Ive been lurking on this thread since I discovered it.
Many great insights, definitely a must-read thing as part of research process before interview

I think I have an answer in mind to answer that question just need to write it down and make it into a proper sentence beforehand then im good to go.

The only thing that concerns me is like most people i have no problem in writing but when comes to speaking
Boy let me tell you thats not gonna look good and this gonna screw up everything
any advice for this? sad.gif

maybe you could slow down your speed, ie speak slower
and start practicing to make sure your pronunciation is clearer

so far, only at 1 of them did i hear everyone sounding like a native speaker (layman terms: sounds like banana lor)
the others just require fluency i think (at the very least you can speak malaysian english)

but hey, dont worry too much about accents though, just focus on being able to string sentences

you gotta be able to speak english, this is the MOST BASIC requirement
or else how are you gonna communicate with clients? or even your colleagues esp the foreigners?
*
I see

Be confident, speak slowly, get the pronunciation right and also be prepared mentally

but also true when im nervous i speak faster and faster and become gibberish laugh.gif
