Maybe this is why one of my hong kong friend's wife give up her job and take care of the child instead, can cook for her husband, and prepare afternoon lunch for him also. if self take care can be as much as 1 month salary, I would do the same. 165 AUD.. gosh.. lol

Depends on what the person earns lor. If he/she on $20 per hour, then not worth it at all.
If earning $50 per hour, can still consider (but by the same token, yr benefits would be significantly reduced if u earn so much...)
Maybe it works out for people who really do not have any other choice.

Do you see this as a continuing trend?

My son is taking up nursing and intend sto stay in Aus
*
From what I understand new nurses hard to get in, but once gained experience it is a stable job and not subject to fluctuations like other professions. Ppl will always get sick and old.

The good thing abt nursing is they do not need to live in exxy Syd or Melb, regional centres also looking for nurses.

For permanent positions, profession is covered by unions. For contract, pay is quite good.

*
As long as you return to Oz b4 visa expires, you dont need to renew it.
A RRV costs $300+ for five years (if u fulfilled the 2 yrs cumulative stay). Otherwise its $300+ for one year.

Yeah, I've got bad experience with Citibank Puchong. the story started where one of the senior staff there lecture me:
why do you want to go to australia? many of my friend went there and came back
Its very hard to get job over there, bla bla bla

They've even asked me to provide offer letter from australia AND malaysia.  confused.gif  confused.gif

at the end, they don't even let me apply for a normal bank account !
*
It seems that Citibank MY really does not want new business.
Now, I can qualify for Citi Gold, and I even went, cheque in hand, to open account.
-- Oh no sir, if you r Oz PR, u must provide proof.
-- Oh no sir, it doesnt matter if u hv existing cheque account, must still get reference from another existing acc holder.
-- Oh no sir, you can apply but its not approved, needs few days, u come back to branch if approved.
This is the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn branch.

Go to local bank:
- Takes IC.
- Fills in all forms.
- Account opened, debit card issued immediately.

I actually have a (dumb) question for those who have migrated... Is it just me Cos I find people in Melbourne extremely frugal? I only visited Melbourne...

Most friends that I talked to, normal migrants don't actually have expectations anymore... to them having food to fill their stomach, shelter and education for their kids is already like a very good life sweat.gif
*
Frugal? U mean people are careful with their money?

Well, how do you define a good life and what expectations do u have?

Abalone and lobsters every night?

5 star holidays?

Or work life balance, an adequate education and health system, time with your family?

Can assure you established migrants lead very comfortable lives.

That's what i pay for during winter
*
Wow! You must have ducted heating on 24x7 and have 1 hour showers!!
I would have thought $500 per quarter was reasonable but $500 a month....

Maybe u need to revisit yr gas retailer...

Personally, I survive on a single wall heater and we only leave it on 5 hours a day.
Bill comes up to $150 per month max, and always less than $100 during non-winter months.

Thanks, I'm going to Sydney. Yeah it's pretty tough as both me and wife will continue searching for jobs when we're there. A few friends and contact there but I guess we'll do what we can. =D
*
Perhaps the most shocking thing will be the rent. Rental market is competitive and the rates astronomical.
Good luck for the job search. Find a short term course and take it, get some local qualifications - that may help u secure interim jobs.

Almost $20K wet wet water.
Plus somemore the amount of paper work u hv to do...proof of relationship, testimonials etc...not so easy leh

With student visa, u may be can enrol for TAFE course...a few k AUD...get AU qualification, then apply PR

Even easier still if u hv $1.8 million AUD....can 'buy' your PR

But pay very low...malaysian owned resto only pay $11/hr
*
If they pay u $11/hr, its cash only and ILLEGAL.
Min wage for adults is $17++ per hour (excluding penalty rates).
You can report them to the authorities and they can get into big trouble.
Recent bad publicity for 7-11, Mamak and PappaRich underpaying their staff.

The 457 visa is specifically for occupations on the sol and employers sponsored, so of course you cannot go work as waiters ...

But to bar international students is a bummer....Many earn their pocket money this way....
*
It may be a bummer, but
1. if u can afford to study there, the assumption is that u will not need to work...
2. it protects the locals who normally get their first jobs, which is fair enough. The gommen needs to protect its own people.
