Another issue which have been bugging me has been the CF Card error. It happened to me 3 times already so far and I'm getting rather pissed and worried of this issue..

Well, all 3 times, it occured with the error reading: 'There is a problem with the CF Card. Please replace the CF Card'.

When this happens nothing else could rectify the problem unless I format the card once again. Which means, all photos stored in the card would be gone! Luckily for me, at all 3 times which it happened, I wasn't taking any 'precious moments' photos. @#$*(*&%!!

The CF card which I'm using is currently Kingston's 1G CF. No speed indicated so that's why I can't furnish more details..

Is this a common problem? Is there anything wrong with the CF card of the camera body itself?

Looks like I'm starting with with all the wrong footings with my very first DLSR..

so far (fingers X'ed) i haven't had any problem with my kingston cf card (the normal speed one, orange label, if higher speed, will usually be stated). but then again, I hardly ever use it since i got the apacer 100x cf card.

Well my Kingston normal 1gig CF gave me the same problem few times too. What i've learned was to format the card in the camera before use, seems to work fine for me. Weird thing is that it only happened on my Kingston and not sandisk cards.

sometime, a certain unit of CF card will have problem with certain unit of body. try other card, loan from a friend and test.

regret or not didnt get the mighty D80?

i have 2 1Gb Kingston CF cards. So far, did not encounter the problem u had with the 400D.

Psst... I'm a secret admirer of D80....

Just my bad luck lah I guess.. Sent it to service centre in Melaka today, and I could only expect it to be back between '1-2 weeks' time... @#$%%$#@!!!!!!!!

just send an email to their customer service, detailing your plight and your urgent need for the camera to be back within the same week, otherwise you would miss a very very important function.
If possible, they would get it done for you very quickly.

Knight, just sent them a long-winded e-mail an hour ago.. Who knows, they might be kind enough to throw a free 50mm lens for me...

Not sure if yr Kingston card has the same problem I encountered not too long ago with my Lexar 1 GB 80x CF. ...gives me error message. Another time, while on my recent Sichuan tour, had like 150 shots stuck and unable to d'l to storage due to 1 image showing 'data error'. Nasib baik I had 2 other cards with me. On return home, when I use card reader to d/l to computer, the image in question did a houdini on me. Then the 4 adjoining images also started disappearing one by one!

I found out recently that there's some firmware incompatibility problem with the Lexar card and the 350D. Dunno can get replacement over here in M'sia now. Checked the site the closest destination I see listed is Spore....and the advisory is dated 10/6/05.

Anyone faced the same problem?

Mine is bashed up Kingston Elite Pro 1GB that has gone from one reader to another reader, contained documents to videos to PDFs to porn photos. I can delete everything using the PC and plug it into any camera or any make or model and it still runs. Its original home is in my Canon EOS 300D. The card is still alive, reading and being written on.

Oh, the card took a trip to the washing machine before as well.

buy sandisk extreme iv 8gb

very good card, 40mb/s writting speed
waterproof as well, can take as many trips to washing machine as you want

and it is not very expensive

One of them is a Sandisk Ultra II ... survived as well. Dun need the Extreme IV

I have a Sandisk Ultra II too.. no David Blaine tricks so far. Dunno, maybe coz it's still new. Haven't tried sending to the washer tho'.

Anyone knows which shop in KL carries stock for Lexar CF cards?

I used Transcend and so far no problem. Learn from reporter that you have to format the CF card after transfer of images to PC and never use your CF card on another brand. That way, the CF card can have long lifespan.

Yes. Store all images until CF card is full. Do not delete any images. Transfer all to Pc and then format.

Say you are using Canon and your friend use Nikon. Your friend wants to borrow your CF card from your Canon and use it on the Nikon and then later return it back to you. Tried to avoid such practice. Best is never shared the CF card.
