QUOTE(djack @ Dec 31 2017, 09:01 PM) im hoping to land a job here. are there any career fair that I need to be aware of? There are quite a number of career fairs, but most of them isn't that impressive. Good career fairs are normally organised by your university with well-known companies invited. Most companies, at least competitive ones tend to start recruiting by the beginning of the academic year. If you successful, you should receive an offer by March/April. Do bear in mind that it isn't that easy to land a job in the UK. Especially if you are not a resident

QUOTE(mystalyzer @ Mar 6 2018, 04:28 PM) If one needs T2 sponsorship, currently it is almost impossible as a fresh grad because the salary threshold since Dec17 has been more than £46k per year which is quite high as a fresh grad: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/...-of-sponsorship Once it drops back to the usual £21k, then it would be likely to get a working visa again. However there is no indication yet when that will be That is not true. The absolute minimum for experience hire is 30k while for new entrant is 20.8k. However depending on your job title, the minimum salary may differ. tier 2 guidance Refer to page 109 for more info. Appendix JAppendix J shows the different categories with their respective minimum salary for tier 2 visa for both new entrant and experienced hire The documents are updated on January 2018 You may have mistaken points for salary This post has been edited by Mr.dupe: Mar 7 2018, 03:31 AM

QUOTE(mystalyzer @ Mar 7 2018, 07:16 AM) The link I put in my post is updated on 20th February 2018. Meeting the minimum salary requirements of Tier 2 and 5 sponsor guidelines (along with a few other requirements) qualifies a person to apply for a restricted CoS. It does not mean the application of CoS will be successful as it is subject to a monthly quota as well. This monthly quota has been exceeded since Dec 2017. This caused the minimum point score for a successful CoS application to be raised from 21 (pre Dec 2017) to 55 (Dec 2017) , 46 (Jan 2018), 46 (Feb 2018). So if it is not a shortage occupation job, a fresh graduate that earns £45k/year or less will not qualify for a CoS despite meeting the minimum salary threshold listed in the Tier 2/5 sponsor guide. Ah, I see what you meant now. The document does suggest that a higher salary (£36k for 46 points) is required to obtain a CoS. However, as you mentioned if it's a shortage occupation job or a PhD level job, then you will not be affected (yet). This post has been edited by Mr.dupe: Mar 7 2018, 10:01 AM

QUOTE(wiraone @ Apr 12 2018, 08:13 AM) Thanks, it is an engineering firm based in Leeds. Checking the T2 sponsorship, the company has a Tier 2 (A Rating) / Tier 2 General. That only meant that they can apply for Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS). I would suggest that you seek job description and check if it's a job that the company can apply the CoS. Not all job can convert into a T2 visa via the restricted CoS. I was offered a job last year in an engineering company, But because the official job description does not fall in line with the government description, they can't issue me a CoS through the normal route.

QUOTE(ConfusedWriter @ May 7 2018, 09:46 PM) Hi, I’ll be going to the UK in September this year to start my undergrad and I was wondering, do I have to renew my passport before applying for my Tier 4 visa? My current passport expires in 2020 while my course lasts for three years and ends mid 2021. With BRP now, i don't think you need to renew your passport. although you will still require to renew them in London. Talk to them to be sure though

QUOTE(ConfusedWriter @ May 12 2018, 05:18 PM) Hi again, I read that on the application form we’re supposed to include our previous travel history, but I’ve misplaced my first passport. What am I supposed to do in this situation? If I leave out my travel history under my first passport, will it significantly affect my application? Thanks in advance! EDIT: Nevermind I found it. One of my recent trips was to Hong Kong and they no longer use passport stamps so it’s not shown on my passport. If I include it in my application, how am I supposed to show proof of that particular trip? I honestly do not think it really affects your application, but if you are in doubt you can always give them a ring. I'm sure they are will be happy advise you This post has been edited by Mr.dupe: May 12 2018, 07:07 PM

QUOTE(ConfusedWriter @ May 14 2018, 12:36 PM) Ah okay, thanks! For the finance evidence part of the visa application, are there any Malaysian banks that aren’t accepted by the Home Office? Both mine and my parent’s accounts are under Public Bank so I was wondering if a bank statement/letter from that bank would be acceptable? I tried looking up a list of acceptable banks but I couldn’t find one for Malaysia. Thanks again in advance. I don’t remember there is a restriction on what bank your money needs to be in. Although there are some requirement on the lstatement itself I.e. letterhead, name, bank number etc. Make sure your statement meets all those criteria. You may also need to have your birth certificate translated to English to prove that you are your parents child. Also because Malaysia is considered a low risk country, we do not need to provide this unless they ask you to.

For London Unis, you are looking at around 21~26k GBP per year for tuition fees and around 1.3k GBP per month for living expenses. so you may spend a total of 30 to 50k GBP per year in London

Because both me and my friend didn’t get our original ones back. 🤔 I didn't receive back my Tb cert 5 years ago, For my current visa I didn't apply with Tb cert. QUOTE(wildprincessx @ Aug 21 2018, 09:43 PM) Hi! Just went for my biometrics today. Didn't opt for the premium service as was quite pricey and didn't want to fork out such a big sum. However, now I am a bit concerned because I am leaving on the 15th of September. Do you think my visa will arrive before then? The two time i apply for my visa/brp, i receive them within a week, so you should be fine

Thank youuu Yea, i used the normal service. You should receive an email telling you that the visa application centre received your passport. Bear in mind that if you opt for delivery service, it may take longer (additional 2~3 days to get to you) This post has been edited by Mr.dupe: Aug 21 2018, 10:33 PM

I second eddy's comment, go with the bank that is most convenient for you. However, try to stay away from HSBC because they are very reluctant to open an account for student. Monzo is the way to go if you like traveling around Europe. (no foreign currency transaction charge)
As for mobile, giffgaff seems to be the go to for students (free giffgaff to giffgaff call and text as long as you top up every 3 months)

QUOTE(wildprincessx @ Aug 24 2018, 10:28 PM) Hey, for all you visa applicants, would you suggest I go check at the counter if my visa is here even without the official UKVI email? This is as some of my seniors have mentioned having the passport ready at the counter but having received no email (or a very late email). O is HLs going this coming Tuesday be too optimistic (CAS changed to used on Wednesday)? I have never done that. I suppose do it only when you are really desperate. Otherwise it would just be a waste of time.

QUOTE(ConfusedWriter @ Aug 26 2018, 12:09 AM) Thanks so much for the replies everyone! For the SIM card, I received a free GiffGaff SIM card from UCAS. Should I use this? If I use the free SIM I’m supposed to activate it and go for whichever plan I prefer right? Or should I order one from their website (https://www.giffgaff.com/sim-only-plans) and get them to send it to me? Also on an unrelated note, did any of you work part-time or intern while you were in the UK? How did you apply for your National Insurance Number? All giffgaff's sim are the same. You will need to register on their website, then enter your unique sim code to the website to tie it to your acc. Once you activate your card by topping up £10 you can choose to either go with goodybag (plan) or pay as you go As for NI, you will have to apply online on the gov website. You may need to go for an interview for application. (I didn't have to) it may take a few weeks to process your ni number This post has been edited by Mr.dupe: Aug 26 2018, 01:22 AM

QUOTE(ConfusedWriter @ Aug 30 2018, 04:16 PM) Thanks for the replies! I guess I’ll activate my SIM card here then right before I leave. Not sure if this is off-topic, but while I’m trying to open my UK bank account when I’m over there, I’ll probably use my Malaysian debit/credit cards. How will I receive the banking OTP number via SMS when I’m over there? Would I have to activate roaming? If you are using your malaysia dc or cc, you will still need to key in your otp number. I used to do it via my parents ( my otp number was sent to my parents phone and then they relay the number to me). Uk dc does not use otp number. The only bank I know that uses something similar is from HSBC. But opening an acc with them is torturing

QUOTE(ConfusedWriter @ Sep 3 2018, 04:49 PM) Thanks for the replies everyone! I guess I'll change my OTP number to my dad's before I leave. Would 500 pounds be enough money to last me until my UK bank account is opened and I receive my debit card? I've asked both of the banks I'm interested in and they said I'd receive my debit card within a week. Provides that you have already paid for your accommodation, £500 is more than enough to last you until your bank account is opened and you receive your debit card

QUOTE(ConfusedWriter @ Sep 4 2018, 04:52 PM) Thanks for the suggestion @touristking. I probably won’t get it tho Also, regarding vaccination, I’ve had the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccination once when I was little (when I was a year old I think). Do I still need to get another dose? You will not be barred from entering the UK without one. So it is not compulsory. However if you choose to have another dose its totally fine
