Hellgate London will have subscription for online play after all. QUOTE Shacknews has word on Hellgate: London multiplayer, saying online play in Flagship's coming action/RPG will be subscription-based, quoting Bill Roper as saying this will spark debate over whether the game is an MMO or not. Word is they have plans to roll out a beta test before this service goes live, and the system will include some provision for free or trial play. Multiplayer gameplay will be instanced, with some minor form of PvP. Source: ShacknewsGot new update info about the game from CES 2007. QUOTE(SpikeTwo @ Jan 10 2007, 10:47 PM) crap. means no LAN? we will be "forced" to use private servers then. no point buying the game. This game was never designed to be a LAN game it only has single player + online multiplayer. Always thought the online mulitplayer was going to be free like Guild Wars but looks like Guild Wars will still be the king of free mmorpg.

Always thought the online mulitplayer was going to be free like Guild Wars but looks like Guild Wars will still be the king of free mmorpg. Upon reading the full article, it appears to be a direct ripoff of Guild Wars really. Heavily instanced team PvE and PvP missions... with guilds (Or something of the sort). True enough, that it plays differently, but the core multiplayer mode is GW. I just hope this lowers the sticker price a little (Or at the very least comes with one month online play)

LoL...ok now they are saying the online subcription is not confirmed yet. QUOTE Update: Since posting our original news item on the matter, Shacknews has been contacted by Electronic Arts, which is co-publishing the game along with Namco Bandai. EA noted that there has not in fact been any final decision made as to Hellgate: London's online pricing model, be it subscription-based or otherwise. We respect this situation, while maintaining that we have reported fairly on statements we received. A full interview is forthcoming. Source: ShacknewsMore here.. Errr...Unreal 2? This is an all new engine built by Flagship Studios. Unreal 2 engine does not have the power to do randomized levels. If they were going to use Unreal engine to power this game don't you think they would use Unreal 3.0 engine instead? Both keyboard + mouse. Yes there is FPShooting + hack and slash & magic. It would have WASD movement. This post has been edited by Araes: Jan 12 2007, 02:21 AM

I hope they follow the Guild Wars method and charge for additional content only. QUOTE(Cloudx @ Jan 14 2007, 02:47 AM) Hope its affordable... New info on Hellgate: London... More importantly new info on the multiplayer component. QUOTE Bill Roper: We have always had the intention of providing rich, robust, massively multiplayer online gaming experiences for our players. This means that we will be providing everything from a secure client/server infrastructure to 24/7 customer support to maintaining a complete live team to provide not only balance and bug fixes, but more importantly, continuing, ongoing content updates to the game. And while we are still finalizing the commercial and game aspects of our online plans, we can tell players that there will definitely be significant free online play. Source: Evil Avatar"Significant"? Sounds to me like they're offering both free AND P2P for their multiplayer service... Wonder how that's going to work out

Here"additional content" usually means u'll be missing out on alot of cool stuff.. then you'll end up paying "just abit" to get one specific item that you really2 need..

Nothing wrong with that. They been doing it in Guild Wars and Oblivion. I say if they really want to charge for something let it be for additional content instead of charging for full online play. Lesser of two evils, I think. This post has been edited by Araes: Jan 19 2007, 01:48 AM

yeah...i hope their idea is that i bought HG:L, and i get to play thru scene A, B, C, D and E online. (just like those "Acts" in D2). with that say, 100 weapons in game. and get constant updates which fix bugs, balance...bla bla. maybe new monster, items and weapons or two sometimes.
if u paid and play, u will get continuous updated scenes F, G, H...bla bla...and maybe now u have 140 types of weapon instead of the default 100. and more enemies, items...etc.
if it's like that, i am fine with it.

If they were going to use Unreal engine to power this game don't you think they would use Unreal 3.0 engine instead? it is possible that Unreal 2.+ engine can do that and it already did . games like StarWars : R.Commando uses Unreal 2.+ engine and those game engines are quite capable to do that . btw , you can tell from the details of the backgrounds and texture even from those new DX10 screenshots . its just the DX10's Shader and the n8series smoke and particle effects that made the game looks like its running a U3 engine .
