Well I am not paid by China company but Malaysia company .... I am quite under pay and oversea allowance can't help me forever ...

I am not planning to stay in China for long term too ... According to my experience ... I don't like here ... Food, activity, people etc ... With my pay ... I can't even afford one toilet bowl here ... Houses ? U are looking at around 1.5 mil and above ... One master room ... One walkway which only can fit one person ... One toilet ... Condor ... Whole house is like 2 normal room size in Malaysia ... Btw I am in Shanghai ...
*
Cost of living in Shanghai is as high as Singapore. If you were sent to China with Malaysian pay confirm gg. Housing in Shanghai is almost as expensive as Singapore, will surely overtake SG within the next 5 years. Problem is they do not have HDB, so the people there are getting paid lower than in SG, but need to buy house at SG private housing prices

Furthermore their income tax is high. My income tax in Shanghai is 25%, but when i was in SG, my effective tax rate was about 2%

I first came here as a fresh graduate so the allowance is very attractive but after 2+ years my basic is as steady as a mountain. Other than that I have no life at all ... Work eat shit sleep repeat ... But I do manage to save lots money but meh ... I will choose family and life ... As long as I got a job with normal pay I am eager to leave here ...
*
If you go to Singapore its also going to be work eat shit sleep repeat, unless your family is here. So you might want to reconsider.

Can contract employee (not permanent) on EP apply for PR?
*
Yes but if i am not mistaken you cannot change job between application and approval as once you are approved your current employer needs to give some verification documents. It will be complicated if your have different employers when you apply and when you are approved. The whole process from application to approval takes approximately 6-7 months.

Guys, thanks for the comments on the estimated cost of living I will need to allocate.

I wish I can stay in a bigger room too but I'm coming from KL and all my advances are all to be paid with my savings here before getting any salary in SGD? sad.gif

Assuming if a room is $1k, usually market is 2 or 3 months advanced right? That's a RM 6k-9k. shocking.gif
*
Usually 1 month deposit 1 month rental. I personally wont pay 1K for a room. I used to pay 650 for a room in TPY with aircond and walking distance to MRT.

If anybody is into gaming and watch alot on twitch, avoid starhub at all costs. Their routing is horrible and you will only get medium quality.

I'm using M1 and for gaming, seems ok when i'm playing on the America server...
but for Twitch, usually it's medium and high or sometimes lucky, source which sometimes is higher quality than high biggrin.gif

maybe if really need good streaming, should get the gamer's package since they say better routing?
but too costly for meĀ  sweat.gif

If too costly can consider using vpn. That's what I did. Or you can use a program called tardsplaya

True or not ? I only know once take PR ... 37% of your $$$ can see cannot touch and every year minus this, minus that  tongue.gif
*
Technically it's 20% unless you are getting the 17% in cash. Also it's tax deductible. If you work in other developed countries you are taxes upwards of 30% with no guarantee that the benefits will be there when you retire.

Havent decide (diff reasons involved) cry.gif  cry.gif So if u are a msian who jus move to SG, no cpf la.. how soon b4 u cn get PR?
*
There is no official rule on how long you have to work before you can apply for PR. Based on my experienced talking to other applicants, it seems that 2 years is ideal. 1 year may or may not get. Do take note the queue is 6 months to get an appointment and another 6 months for approval/ rejection. So by the time you get it, may be 3 years.

Hi all the masters here,

I was offered with a job with 2 years contract. Mind to know if there is any kind of taxation charged monthly or need to pay in advance? I will be staying around Kent ridge. Is there any nice stay which I can put into consideration? Thanks much guys!
*
Your tax bill only will come between quarter 1 and 2, for the income of previous year. For example i will be expecting my tax bill in Q1/Q2 2016 for my income in 2015. You dont pay anything from your salary monthly.

Once you receive your tax bill, you can opt to pay it at once, or you can apply for 12 month interest free payment.

If you are citizen/ PR, 20% of your pay will go to CPF

Nah not DBS counter. Just DBS online banking. Takes about 2 working days to debit into MY account.
biggrin.gif What's wrong with the tax doh.gif

Your estimated budget is not really budget. Consider spend a lot leh...
doh.gif Facepalm for you.

Only if you work here less than 183 days that you need to pay 15% for the first 6 months. Otherwise if you continue to work over 1 year, that year you will be taxed based on residence rate.

So let say if your salary is 3k. Yearly income will be 36k. Forget about any additional allowance/bonus (to be easy to calculate),

You will be taxed

First $30,000 - $200 tax
Next $10,000 - (3.5%) = (3.5% * $6000) = $210

Total tax = $200 + $210
Let say if you work here for just 5 months (>60 days <183 days) then quit and back Malaysia

You will be taxed

$3000 * 5 months * 15% = $2250
Does this answers your question?
*
Iwan's calculation is correct. In the event you are taxed 15% for the first year, but you continue to work in Singapore, the excess tax you paid will be refunded to you.

Hello Pros, regarding salary payment in singapore,

If you work 183 days or more in a calendar year you are a tax resident and pay the same progressive tax rates as locals.

(i) The 183 days are the working days or include sunday ?
(ii) For instance, if I start working in 1st July, July (31 days), August (31 days), Sep (30 days), Oct (31 days), Nov (30 days) and 31 days for Dec. Then my working days is considered as 184 days ?

Am I right ? Please feel free to enlighten me. Thank you.
*
Include Sunday.

Like what others said, you probably don't have to pay in 2017 but to pay in 2018 for 2016 & 2017.

I started in Sept 2014 and I haven't pay a cent yet. The bomb is coming though  ranting.gif  ranting.gif

Thats weird, i starting in 2010 Aug, and received my assessment in 2011

Anyway Singapore tax so low, somemore can pay by 12 month interest free installment.

Hey guys,

Kinda in a dilemma here, my first job as freshie(masters accounting and finance) got offered for business development in SME company. Might be sending to Myanmar to expand business over there .

No commissions, only bonus/incentives  ( avg bonus 2-3months, top sales 6)

2.2 , after confirmation will increase 2.5

Drawbacks. Contract for 3years with 3 months penalty. Have to sign contract within the first month. Probation between 3-6months.

Working hours 11-8pm. No OT , no hard sales because it's b2b.

Is this offer fair? I am alright with the jobs scope and arrangements so far. But is worried sick for the contract and would be pleased if tai kor here's can share their opinions in such arrangements.

Dont take it. 2.2K-2.5K is what they pay for Poly graduates. plus 3 year bond is too long. You are getting exploited.
