QUOTE(incx @ Mar 30 2016, 10:26 AM)
Getting robbed in Singapore is rare. But accidents do happen involving motorcycles here. Why not consider public transport?

Generally rental in Yishun is relatively cheaper compared to other areas. Kinda like considered a "kampung" if to compare with other parts of Singapore. They're a lot of new developments going on in Yishun, supply more than demand, so everyone's pretty desperate to rent out their units. If you're patient enough, you'll be able to get a good deal.
*
Public transport from jb to singapore? That will take me half day i guess.
I think it is tough to raise family with kid in singapore compare to if you have your family in jb but you have to travel.
That's the reason of asking.

Ask ur relative gv u his utility bill, i think should work
*
QUOTE(deadravel @ Apr 5 2016, 08:38 PM)
yes. the bank just wan the address stated there.
*
Since last year oct (when i just came to work in singapore) the bank have this new requirement.
The bank need 2 things.. either letter from your company "undertaking" your home address or there is a bill with your name and the address.
Bill showing the landlord is not acceptable.

Even my HR insisted no such requirement.
But for my case, i just put the msia address as they can accept that too.

Oh! I sent them the utility bill already. If they reject again then I'll try sending them the employment letter with my Malaysia's address then. Thanks ya!
*
If your IC already has the msia address, dont think that need to go through your company.

Any problem doing that?
Any tax issue or privated window OS issues?

It was a pirated OS machine but nope, no issues in bringing it from M'sia. Brought along my 24" monitor together as well. I did place it inside a luggage bag though (easier to lug the whole thing around).
*
QUOTE(Mackiddo @ Apr 11 2016, 09:14 PM)
how does a privated WindowsOS looks like? Highly customized for your own private needs? smile.gif

Joke aside, no one can advice you on bringing illegal stuff / copyright material into Sg. then again, if you willing to take the risk, then by all means ....
*
pirated* window OS for private use doh.gif

@ik3da,
ya, thanks for that. Maybe at least bring over the monitor first. biggrin.gif

Sounds like many engineers here. Are you guys working in consultancy?

Speaking of Fundamental Engineering Exam, who is going to sit for it this year?
https://www.peb.gov.sg/Downloads/FEE2016.pdf
I think they just release the tentative date for the exam.

If driving it is not as bad as you think.

If motorbike or bus takes longer
*
Is that true? Motorbike will take even longer than cars?
Then on average how long does motorbike will take?

30mins for cars to cross doesnt sound so bad to me.. But what time crossing we r talking about? 7am?

Never ride motorbike crossing the Causeway myself so please take my advise with pinch of salt

But according to a technician friend working in Yishun which I met 2 years ago, he wakes up 4:30am so that he can be in time to reach work before 7am. Average 1 hr time to cross
*
Thanks for that.
2.5 hours in total. I guess if start work at 8.30am then will be worse traffic? And have to suffer the jam with vehicles exhaust fumes compare to those crossing in cars with aircon.
Tough life.

QUOTE(Lester1987 @ Apr 18 2016, 01:05 PM)
When going in from JB to SG. (causeway)
exclude your travel time, to be on the safe side, U need to spare 1 hour 30 mins for queue. It really depends on your luck, if you manage to enter the fast lane, U will crossed within 20 mins, If you suay suay got halau to the back, 1 hour is expected.  This I am talking about 6:30-7am.

If you leave home at 5am, you can cross in around 30-40 mins. But don't put too high hopes also. Sometime it might take u to an hour.

When going back SG to JB (causeway)

Sometime I leave office at 6pm, reach causeway around 6:25 to 6:30. Always needs minimum 1 hour 30 mins to cross. It would be consider lucky if you manage to reach home before 9pm. Queue wise usually its 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours (unavoidable). Also don't bother going back late. Even you go back at 12am, there will still be a 20-30mins queue waiting for you. unless we are talking about 2:30-4am. then its smooth.
*
Wow, thanks for the info.

Seems like have to find some other method like taking the train?

If you are talking about the KTM JB Sentral - Woodlands CIQ, those 5:30am to 7am schedule are normally sold out, 30 days in advance. Other time schedule still can purchase as not peak hour
*
ya, actually i do have a colleague crossing everyday by KTM. Can get more info from him.
Also some do car pooling, share taxi service to cross, etc.

QUOTE(rexona @ Apr 19 2016, 09:08 AM)
fixed. assuming you are an educated, white collar worker then why do you need to waste 20hours a week on commuting hmm.gif
*
QUOTE(Blues89 @ Apr 19 2016, 10:41 AM)
true,i straight away find a room in sg instead- -"
i think time and health way more important than those bit of money spent...
somemore the work life balance here isnt good at all...with the travelling..seriously no time for ownself d
*
Regardless i am educated white collar worker, i think some ppl will just do their calculations and will make their decision whether to cross everyday or just spend a bit more to stay in singapore to have more life.
Some ppl might have the question as me and i hope i did a favor for them by asking this.
Not that i am going to move to jb soon, but in near future maybe i will consider. Just wanted to know the options.

QUOTE(MrJigoku666 @ Apr 19 2016, 04:37 PM)
I've been commute jb - sg via motorbike for a year, and i'm working at jurong island, start work at 8am..
Usually morning reach the Woodlands checkpoint around 5.20am, and would clear from checkpoint around 5.45am, then will be reaching jurong island around 6.10am.. i then take a nap at office..
Tried going out late around 6am reaching the checkpoint, result is reaching office 5 minutes before 8am.

Finished work at 7pm, would reach Woodlands checkpoint around 7.30pm, end up spend around 1 hour 30 minutes to clear the checkpoint normally, and sometimes reach 2 hour.
Now i always use Tuas checkpoint for going back to jb, as normally would stuck at Tuas around 30 - 45 minutes, but  would taking a long way to reach my home for using 2nd link highway. But i think i prefer longer way than stuck in a traffic jam.  mega_shok.gif
*
Thanks for the very useful info. Salute to you and those who travel everyday just to earn a living to support family.
For me, I guess i would opt for longer way too.. than stuck in traffic, inhaling those vehicles exhaust fumes.
Bikers are meant ride.
And seems like your working hour is longer?
