Sifus,
I'm faced with the dust-on-sensor problem.. I'm using a 400D, and yes as some said before, the dust-cleaning function does not really work like a wonder.. Here's the attached image which I shot purposely to check on dust specks...



Hope someone can help to explain what to do, step-by-step, because I'm afraid I might destroy my unit by doing a self-experimentied cleaning. Is the use of a blower sufficient enough to solve this issue? Appreciate some advise

the photoshop it off cos it's almost always impossible to get rid of everyone speck of dust..

Please use Canon 400D "Dust Delete Data" feature to remove the stubborn spots.

That's why lah... Damn tulan now.. I think tomorrow wanna send it to Canon Service Centre and make a big fuss, so that they'd do a free cleaning for me...

what if he shot 439,098,326 photos while on holiday in europe?

but u can always set the right focal length and aperture so they are invisible
but the best thing to do is to clear them bunnies

this is serious. i got to say, this is the first time i see this amount of dust on the sensor. your sensor have more amount of dust than a press photographer's.

how did it go inside?

1 time in the car (yeah, excited newbie) 2 more times indoors (in my room, with fan off)... Maybe the dust in my car screwed thigs up....

I am pissed due to the fact that they claim that their Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit are able to 'automatically removedust adhering to the imaging sensor'. #$%$#@!!

400D shakes dust off the sensor, notice the word shake, not remove
like how u shake ur buttocks, but not removing it

how do i get rid of dust in the lense.


my 18-200 has only been with me like about 5 month + and therz dust inside the lense... >_<

i will advice you on buying a blower.
everytime before you do any shooting, blow the balrdy dust off the sensor...
that's what i do everytime before i start shooting.

It was done FOC, but I had to wait 10 blardy days to have it back..

Although it was not 100% clean, I'm quite contented lah.. Looks like gotta learn wet cleaning for 400D from sifus around soon..

Just got a reply from Canon, i think they're not using wet cleaning at all but they're using a pen call LensPen which the mail correspondent told me to get if i'm too busy to send the camera in.

Checked out the LensPen and it uses a bit of liquid too

10 days !!!!! wtf ?!?!? they send it to japan for cleaning ahh ??
worst...after 10days come back still have some dust!!

sell it and buy nikon.
FOC for life, clean less than 10 minutes.
Not happy with their cleaning, ask them to clean again on the spot.
Still not happy ask them to clean until you are satisfied.
That's why Nikon no need self cleaning sensor kind of crap function in their camera.

One of the managers was supposed to 'get back to me' in the reply by their customer service personnel via e-mail... But crap not even a miss call from him..

so much for the charges.. i'd rather get the Eclipse and pec pad which cost only rm150 for both

Depends if it's dust or pollen. Normally even for Olympus DSLRs, they won't work that well on pollen, which have sticky surfaces or hooks that help them adhere to anything they touch. Otherwise, they are very effective on dust. I have not seen any dust spots on my E-330 and I have been using it since this March and swap quite frequently between the 14-54 and 40-150 in the field (especially parks with lots of flowering plants).

One drawback to having a vibrating membrane in front of the CCD is that it itself is quite delicate and more care must be taken when cleaning it manually than just cleaning on a CCD.

I wonder why nobody has picked up Sigma's idea of having a transparent glass shield in front of the CDD to separate the CCD from the outside air. It's implemented in their SD14 DSLR. Any minor amount of dust that settles on that glass shield can be ignored as they will be out-of-focus to the point of being invisible, and can be very safely cleaned manually by the user.

ERM... they have a very brilliant idea. but mayb adding tht piece of glass is not such a simple thing to do.. hav to find glass with no reflection n etc... glass might also distort the pic i think... so less barrier nicer pic...

Dude, maybe I'm stating the obvious: Sigma makes lenses.
Any typical zoom lens already has 6-15 lens elements inside and there's one so-called 'low-pass filter' infront of the camera CCD, and it's not unlike a typical 'UV' or neutral filter ppl put in front of their lenses to protect against mechanical damage -of course maybe something on the level of Hoya or B+W multi-coated glass UV filters.
