There was a thread somewhere about chordal stuff.

But maybe this might help

how are you going to explain if your student asks you that?

That's why i'm asking now ma. Hahaha... laugh.gif

if they are a complete beginner...
i start with chromatics, without a metronome at first, to build up their finger strength.

I'm trying to help them to build their finger strength with major scales.

Also, have some payoff at the end.
Teach them something they want to learn.....
Like, teach them power chords, which builds up to Smoke In The Water....

Or if they're into metal, can teach them Sabbath's Iron Man.... Also damn easy to play.

I really need to find out what my student likes to listen. smile.gif

just found myself in this thread. i have been teaching "unofficially" on my own for around 3 years now. i played for church for quite some years and started some guitar lessons in the church, for FREE. i only teach those who are interested as i do not take money money from them, so i do not have much headache caused by those who are not interested.

well, i start off by letting them listen to "Diana - raul anka" that I play as they come into the room. since they heard the tone already, i teach them the chords - C Am F G. that's the first lesson of 45 minutes. normally the students i teach will be able to play quite a number of songs by the third month. some even play wih me. i found that teaching them songs that are interested to them will be rather effective to keep someone interested to come again for the next lesson. and of cause, we need to find both the songs that interest them and things that they can improve by learning the songs.

playing some familiar songs together will be good to raise their self-confidence. that's my style of teaching. btw, i never teach in any music shops or school before and i learn guitar myself with the Rm2.90 chord book and some songs with chords.... i am still wondering how i manage to learn by just using those....now i learn through internet.
