Funny thing is that the agent need to put my call on hold to check about the 100mbps plan.
Heh.

TM agent just called me up to upgrade my office line. I said no (need the high upload speed more than download, and symmetrical), then I asked if they are going to offer 100mbps next year, the agent said: "still in planning, but we don't know when will launch that plan yet."

QUOTE(plumberly @ Nov 3 2015, 10:28 AM) Just speaking my mind here. ... Or they might throttle existing VIP users till the point they have no choice but to "upgrade".TM wants to phase out VIP5/10/20 and is now offering customers extra packages to change to Unifi 30. Months later, there will be some die-hard VIP customers who have not changed. What will TM do as they want to phase out the VIP packages? Extra incentives, I bet! Ha. So hang on with your VIP! Ha. Above is only my view. I am not liable for your action directly or indirectly resulting from following my view above. Ha. |

QUOTE(eternity4av @ Nov 3 2015, 10:58 AM) On Biz plan, all fine and smooth here. I know it's stupid to pay extra, but I think RM90 extra to avoid all the unnecessary bs throttling every night is IMO worth it considering there is no better choice. Yes they did it less with the VIP plans previously, but with the increased bandwidth now they have to put the FUP in place. It's definitely a little too drastic judging from all the complaints indeed. |

QUOTE(zher4883 @ Nov 3 2015, 06:23 PM) They don't "select by random" lol. They have a list, a very long list to go through. The TM tele agents has zero reason not to call those who hasn't upgraded. Their pay is largely commission based on top of their bare minimum wage. Got money don't want to take? What kinda telemarketer is that dumb? Cannot wait then go TMpoint straight and do on the spot. Simple. |

QUOTE(Makavelic @ Nov 3 2015, 08:57 PM) YES! NOT EVEN 25Mbps! Of course it's fine. They check for you during non-FUP time, so obviously no speed drop.BUT MY PLACE ONLY GET 22-23Mbps everyday freaking day. Better off getting VIP 20 and have more upload speed. Holyshit. Everyday dailing 100 has been my daily routine. I said it earlier, with the higher bandwidth they do indeed need to put FUP into place more often than not already. The influx of people jumping from 5mbps to 30mbps is simply too big for TM to handle, despite all their claims that they have the capacity to handle the higher volume of bandwidth. |

QUOTE(bai1101 @ Nov 4 2015, 11:23 AM) Do u guy notice that current router cant used Google dns already? Actually the default DNS isn't bad. In some instances, it is much faster than Google dns. Although i already set my router to used Google dns but it seem it will still force used skmm dns. Only able to set at lan properties A prime example would be Sony PSN if you use it. Download speeds are maxed out with the default DNS rather than Google. Where as Google will usually only be capped to half speed, seldom maxed out. This due to how Sony locate their servers, the routing for it is best with the default DNS. There are other services like this too, so don't be so put off by TM all the time. |

QUOTE(MyPIA @ Nov 4 2015, 02:44 PM) I have noticed that youtube is fastest with OpenDNS and slowest with google dns Haven't really used OpenDNS for a very long time. Good to hear that though. It might be just for me or for everyone not sure about that. But I have tried testing at various hours with 4k videos and 1080p 60fps Now a days I have different DNS setup for all my devices. My PCs usually on a paid DNS (SmartyDNS to be exact), my consoles are using TM's default DNS (again, this is because PS3/PS4/Vita download/uploads fastest with it), my mobile devices usually Google DNS. QUOTE(eternity4av @ Nov 4 2015, 03:48 PM) 6.2MB/s excluding overhead, more or less. |

The old, first-gen Alcatel BTUs were actually the most reliable, oddly. I got the letter too, but I don't know if I'm willing to change. Reliability > uncertainty.
Unless they're offering like 100mbps symmetrical download/upload + new BTU (just because lol) or something... that'd be a different story. |

QUOTE(zher4883 @ Nov 18 2015, 04:56 PM) If your upload speed is not even 20% of your download speed, your torrent speed can barely get close to your max speed(look at streamyx). Funny.I have always gotten max torrent download speed from my streamyx 1mbps, back in the old days. ~120kb/s. This post has been edited by SSJBen: Nov 18 2015, 05:04 PM |

QUOTE(zher4883 @ Nov 18 2015, 05:14 PM) 1Mbps comes with 384Kbps upload speed. which is close to 38% The point is quite moot now a days, in terms of symmetrical vs asymmetrical.8Mbps only comes with 512Kbps which hurt download speed quite much. But if your upload speed is higher than 2Mbps, regardless how slow is your upload speed, you won't notice upload speed is the limiting factor to your download speed. When I was in the US, AT&T gave me 100mbps down, 5mbps up. That's 5%. Torrent speeds are usually around the 11.5MB/s mark, which is pretty much near the max. Symmetrical plans make sense for content creators and for people who use the cloud a lot. Not that I don't think higher upload = better, but the sad reality is that majority of people download. Not just in Malaysia, but around the globe. This post has been edited by SSJBen: Nov 18 2015, 06:23 PM |

Technician or rather, city link coming to my place in a few to replace the BTU in regards to the "improving our programme" thing. Honestly, I don't feel good about this lol.
I will straight way say no if the new BTU doesn't work with my router. lol... turns out, they just came to replace power adapter. Here is how it looks: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Good news IMO. Don't fix something that isn't broken. This post has been edited by SSJBen: Nov 26 2015, 12:26 PM |

Sorry guys, here are the reuploaded pics:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Yeah, just adapter only they say upgrade. I ask why want to change? They say scared lightning strike will destroy the BTU. I'm like wtf? Change adapter will fix that then? If a lightning is going to strike, nothing is going to stop it lol. Wasted my morning. |

Called a CS, they said there is a planned service disruption for Cheras areas because they are "upgrading their services".
Yeah, upgrading. BS no. 1 as always. |

QUOTE(wlting @ Dec 5 2015, 04:20 PM) Using 30mb nearly a month now, so far so good, test speed quite stable. What you encountered was buffer bloat. It's the downside of asynchronous connnection.Q: last few day try upload photo to cloud, few g sizes 1 time go, during uploading my download become unstable, watch youtube 360p also laggy, but when upload completed everything smooth and 1080p also np. Does full speed upload will cause download/stream slow a lot? how important upload speed when watch stream video? Q: 30/5 mean separate 30mb download & 5mp upload speed? or d+u total = 30mb? If you max out either download or upload, the other throughput will be affected. Think of your connection as utilizing one steel pipe with 2 smaller rubber pipes inside. If one of the rubber pipe bloats, the other will be bottlenecked. How to remedy this? Well, technically you can't. But you can mitigate the issue by using QoS, set a custom parameter on your router so that your upload does not hit maximum speed when you are using any of your downlink bandwidth. So for your case, if you turn on YT and start to stream a vid, your router should automatically place a cap on your upload speed. |
