Hi, just booked my first benz C350e, jumped from BMW. I have a few questions
1) Can we install apple CarPlay outside somewhere?
2) I'm not sure to go for coating or wrap, or neither?
3) Is there any remote app for Malaysia market to control our car?
Thanks

Congrats on your new ride.  Why must say you jumped from BMW leh? Bmw is that bad arr..haha.

1) I don't think so.  Hope I'm wrong here.
2) coating is better.  Is it their offered package?  Glass coating?
It's so easy to wash the car after having that coating treatment.
3) don't think they have.  What type of control you want?  Use remote control to park the car?

Btw, did you get any discounts? I heard got some freebies offered this month.
*
Thanks. The apps that I'm referring to is Mercedes Connect Me, remote control to park the car should be valid for E Class only I think?
Cycle & Carriage is clearing the 2016 C350e stock by giving away 14k discount. Hup Seng gives away Insurance+4years service, I think NZ already finished stock. Limited units left. If u guys interested can PM me for the sales rep contact.

Yeah.  Their E200 huge discounts was very attractive. We almost got it as well.  But decided to experience their plug -in hybrid first.  Haha.

Our regular mechanic advised us to get a little higher spec for E class, so we have to wait a little while to get the second merc, probably the E250.

Great to find another C350e user smile.gif I will only get mine 2 weeks later or so. So far so good I think? Must be fun to play around with so many gadgets everyday right?

Navi Plus

I saw this that day quite tempting but abit pricey

Let's wait & hope Merce Malaysia will give this Apple carplay free to C class during firmware update. Btw, do they update the nav for free whenever we send the car to them for service? For BMW, I heard only Auto bavaria will update the map for free during service.

Cant compare like that though. 1 is kosong specs, 1 is what make C-class the World Car of the 2015 year. If Mbm were to bring specs like this, it would be over rm300k plus leh. Unless dont mind to drive without all the extra features i mention, then better get local unit.

Recently C250 AMG specs got trimmed down. They remove the burmester and comand online(back to tiny audio 20 screen). Actually mbm should include DAP+(Driving Assistant Package+) as standard. Feature like Blind spot assist is helpful especially changing lanes. And for night drive, ILS will be good. Head-up Display and powerboot are extras though. Lastly, no keyless entry except c250 model onward. My 2.8 hilux revo got keyless entry!
*
Really? I think they are pushing C350e, after trimmed down now it gives you more reason to take C350e to C250. As it is now the price difference between these two doesn't justify the extra features available in the C350e, in another word, C350e seems more worthy. I also heard they may obsolete C250. True?

Here to share with those who are interested to know about the plug-in-hybrid performance.

1) FC
I've driven my C350e for 500km+ thus far, my fc is 4.8l/100km. Let's do a quick calculation on the fuel economy by comparison to the identical C250 which fair around 9l/100km consumption. I managed to save a total of 4.2l per every 100km. Say each month I drive 1000km, that's a total of RM88 saving (Ron 95 2.11/l). The higher the petrol price goes, the more I will save in future.

2) Performance
By comparison to my previous 320D, in comfort & eco mode, no doubt it is lack of that "pick up" power, it is not as responsive as 320D too, but it gives no problem in my daily drive, it still performs adequately for normal daily usage. However, once you switch to sport & sport +, that's another story. Unfortunately you will not want to do that in most of the time coz it will affect your fc, why are you buying a hybrid for? Btw, I dislike the steering & cornering, maybe the BMW is far too superior in this?

I think C350e is worth for consideration if you want a car with higher specs to its identical model by paying less. Don't worry much about the battery as many people told you to, as a matter of fact, Prius which has aged more than 9 years old by now didn't give much major problem on its battery, some more, Mercedes is giving you 6 years warranty on that too. There are just too many cried wolf stories about the battery that not many are actually experiencing it.

Ironically, my major complain would be the battery, it runs out fast. It won't last you a return trip from Puchong to KLCC. You need to charge it at least once a day to get the fc that you desired, in fact, as frequent as possible after each trip. Absolutely troublesome. (Btw, I haven't got 0% battery ever coz of the hybrid system will use more petrol to charge it when the battery is low, it's intelligent.) Anyhow, this is a breakthrough for the car history at its initial stage, when one day the battery can accommodate up to 200km a day, I say don't think much, get it! lol

Hi, good sharing. How long it takes to charge the battery? and you may want to factor in the electricity charging cost as you are charging it daily, assuming you charge the car at home.
*
This is a tricky part and it's kinda hard to be exact coz our electricity charges varies depend on total block used. Roughly say it is 0.21 per kWh, the battery size is 6.2kwh, so per full charge is around RM1.35, for me, one charge is good enough for my whole day usage in average. Bear in mind the capacity of the battery is actually less than what is written, so it is less than 6.2kwh literally. It takes about 2hrs for full charge. Thus, one month electricty usage should be around RM40-45. Well, there are days that I was lazy to charge though.

I'm still new to this technology, I guess there are plenty of rooms for me to improve the fc, e.g. My driving behaviour by using more eco mode etc, I also need to find out more places with free charging station such as one city to reduce the energy cost. It's kinda fun and challenging as I wanna achieve better fc everyday. biggrin.gif

Thanks for sharing such details. Can I also add that the c350e has got the most stability when it comes to handling since I test drove the major 3 (BMW 330e, Audi a4 as well). Yes there's a lag during the pick up but once you hit the sports+ mode in full throttle, I felt the G force that you usually get in those cars with 300bhp+.

On the flip side, I have a fren who complaint about the battery only mileage too...I supposed you just need to think of the battery as your extra turbo boost rather than saving fuel.

Anyway, I came very close to committing to the c350e this time but I held back due to all the uncertainty of resale value (as always) but I wouldn't have that second thought if that's not your concern at all.

Btw, it's filled with so much tech, have you finish playing with all yet? All the additional bells and whistle. Not forgetting the apple car play?
*
You are right, you don't buy the car for fuel economy or to save money, I mean common, it's a benz and it cost you almost 300k, you don't buy a premium car to save petrol cost, that's absurd. You are buying it for the brand, the whole package, the extra power and features. As I said, you may consider it if you are looking for a car that is packed with more stuff but cost you less by comparison to it's identical twin, C250 minus the hybrid system. I think the resell value it's gonna hurt, anything with a battery is something that Malaysian afraid of, I heard enough cried wolf stories about the battery out there so I'm giving it a try.

Yeap, once you switch it to sport and beyond, it sprints like an arrow. Those who don't believe me can go for a test drive to experience it yourself. On paper it spent less than 6sec from 0-100, it is powerful. FYI 428i, Z4 & TT has the same 5.9sec on paper. Btw, there's no apple car play, sad. The rest of the features will take you just about a week to familiarise with (i'm a tech dummy). Off the topic, I used to think COMMAND ONLINE is a bad system, but once you get used to it, I think it is better than BMW coz I can actually do more thing with it.

Thanks for your input! My dad's intending to get a C350e demo unit with 5k mileage soon and your feedback is very helpful.

I think the real gripe is really only the resale value in the future as I'm sure it'll be harder to let go of a C350e compared to say a C200/C250.

I understand that the range for full-electric mode is approx 25-30km but I don't think it's intended for long-term usage.. right? I don't think it's worth it having to go through the trouble to charge it everyday just to travel 20km+. It might be fun and interesting to use at first but long-term you'll prolly use the battery just to complement the petrol engine and improve on FC.

Been wondering one thing tho, are the rear seats foldable? With the battery taking up sace in the boot and all that I wonder if the seats are still foldable
*
Hi, well, frankly don't hope too much on the wonder of the battery, in fact, I'm pretty sure it will be a major complain from u too, just like I do, isn't it ironic? The battery will give you some desired results on your fc for short haul, mainly city drive. e.g. if you drive from Puchong to KLCC, the battery will be at the bottom. What the system do is it will use more petrol from that point onwards (when battery lower than 15%), so, if you are using this car for outstation mostly, I don't think the fc will be good (you should go for diesel in that case). I will try that out soon to find out. If your daily driving activities is within the range of 30kms, it will be 100% perfect for you. My two cents is don't buy this car becoz of the plug in hyrbid, consider this tech only if you want to be a little more experimental and you are mad that the government suka-suka increase the petrol price lol.

I do think this is the most powerful C Class, compare it to C250/C200, the C350e can do nothing less but packed with more. Literally, i bought it together with E200, this C350e performs just as nice as a E200 (but you gotta turn on sport to match that). I complained the performance becoz my previous car was BMW, e.g. BMW is just too good in cornering and I felt more engaged (I think I will go back to BMW on my next car). Why don't you try the BMW 330e? I tried that, I don't like it becoz of the dated design and the cabin looks cheap to me (well it is almost 40k cheaper than 350e).

Oh yes, you can fold the rear seat. You'll have plenty of storage, don't worry about it. The charging time is fast, 2hrs will get you 100% charged. I also see more places gonna provide free charging station, that will give us more reason to drive a plug in hybrid car in city, in future, lol. I also feel that we should be less worry on the battery as you can see there are many hybrid cars on the road, I read through many hybrid car forums when i was doing my research and really, there isn't that much failure as people think. Most importantly there's long warranty on that.

As conclusion, how bad can a Merce goes wrong? I had petrol car, diesel car and now a hybrid plug in. My real life experience will tell you diesel is the most reliable. Haha

I heard MBM can alter the infotainment system to the latest Apple Car Play, is that true? Has anyone done it before? Of course with a fee.
*
Sounds great, please share more info. Another option is to mirror your iphone to the screen. That way you can actually make it works exactly like your phone. Apple Carplay only consists of certain apps and very limited 3rd party apps at the moment e.g. pandora, sportify etc.

Can this be done via the normal USB to lightning or needs to be lightning to HDMI (converter)?

You need to install some 3rd party apps to do so. I saw this on youtube.

does the c250 have this?

C350e has them all: ATTENTION ASSIST, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS, PRE-SAFE system, Keyless Go, Park Assist with PARKTRONIC etc. Is good to have, but is not necessary. I'm afraid the rest of the C class won't get them, You can read more at Paultan.

Both C200 & C250 use higher FC in their latest 9G, C250 has downgraded COMAND Online to basic & smaller screen now.

As stated by paultan -> "Oddly enough, combined fuel consumption has actually increased marginally to between 5.6 to 6.1 litres per 100 km on the C 200 and 5.7 to 6.1 litres per 100 km on the C 250." Of course expect 30-40% or more in actual use.

Another 400km later, I managed to improve my C350e FC from 4.8l/100km to 4.0l/100km, another 8% improvement. As expected, my monthly electric bill on 1 charge a day has increased around RM50+, 1 full tank of RON97 cost me RM104 (i only pumped once since I took my car after 1400km, as you can see in the pic, I still have at least half tank more to go before I take the next pump, maybe by month end haha). So total energy consumption is RM154+ for one month usage. Still, it is slightly higher than my previous 320D which cost me only RM130 a month.

It's very kind of you to share information which potential buyers may want to know b4 purchasing a new C350e.  smile.gif Just one question, why buy the C350e when you alrdy made up your mind to buy the E200? Wouldnt E200 win hands down in terms of comfort?  hmm.gif
*
They are two different cars. Features wise, C350e got more. E200 is more comfy becoz of space, other than that, it's a close call between them. Both car has different purpose in my purchase.
