QUOTE(Rotary7 @ Oct 20 2015, 09:03 PM)
I'm in a dilemma which is demoralising me...
First, let me give you all a brief picture...

I'm currently in a band... I'm the guitarist...
I wish to post some videos of my playing on my Facebook... Short licks... Some inspirational playing... Some composition of mine that I've recorded...
But my leader seems to disallow me doing so... Saying it's a conflict of interest... A violation on code of ethics... Being unprofessional...
He said if I insisted... I should create a new account which has no known band members in it... No band friends in it... And I should use a guitar no one knows I own...

So my question is...
Is it so bad to publish my playing on my Facebook?
Is there such a rule for guitarists?
Is my request to post something of my own considered as unethical? Unprofessional?
It makes me feel very bad... Like I'm the criminal here... But I see a lot of guitarists doing that... Phil X sometimes posts videos of him playing... Jack Thammarat posts video on his demo and jamming...

Of course I'm not a very good guitarist... I'm still trying to get better... So I'm not comparing myself to those guitarists out there... I just want to play and express myself

Please let me know what you think
Don't hesitate to point out if my thinking is wrong
I'm really lost...

Thanks

If you are posting it in your name (ie not the band's name) I think it is your project, and they don't have any say unless you give it to them. If your work with the band suffers because of it there could be a conflict of interest, but if there is no (negative) impact on the quality or quantity of your work with the band I fail to see how there is a conflict of interest. hmm.gif It seems to me that the band leader is saying the equivalent of "you can't go out after hours unless you are dressed in your "day job" uniform and act the same as you do at work" shakehead.gif of course you have the freedom to do what you want to do in your time! (so long a it does not bring other association you may have into disrepute). doh.gif

"@_@ well, this is something new... correct me if I'm wrong... but I thought the ideology of 'conflict of interest' stands for overlapping or shared interest between 2 or more parties?

something like:
A sells guitar
B sells guitar

despite A & B being friends... but they have conflict of interest because of their business nature which is aim at the same interest
so... regardless if A's business boomed more than B or not... the conflict of interest already took place initially right?"

no... if A and B had no responsibility to the other then that's competition
Cambridge Dictionary says:
"conflict of interest" - noun:
'a situation in which someone’s private interests are opposed to that person's responsibilities to other people'
