using a ABIT IC7 (s478) mobo... is the cooler compatible to s478 board?
is it a must to get the retention bracket?

any thermalright ultra-120 user with s478 board here?

it is a must to get retention bracket but not really worth to spend retention bracket + ultra 120 on a s478 rig IMO.

That's becasue old socket processor generally does not produce so much of heat to the extend need Utra 120 to cool it off...

of course there is exception such as Prescott series ... always above 40c up to 70c ...

anyhow there is no right and wrong .. cool it the way u want it .. as long as compatible loh ....

thanks for all reply...
any idea where i can get the retention bracket from??
currently oc-ed my 2.8E to 3.2, full load around 72°c
it can be oc-ed higher but due to the temp, and it will have thermal throttling even though its disabled in bios...

i just recieved this from http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/. it provided detail explaination of how to purchase from them. i going to purchase some stuff from them. even plus postage, some items are cheaper than purchase in malaysia.

PeowYong, are you sure that Ultra 120 can fit a 478? i sent a email to thermalright and they told me that it is not recommended to use. should go for ultra 90 or HR 01. btw you can purchase the retention bracket from internet like me

boss, i am not doing a bulk.. just some personal purchase for myself. i cant find HR 01 and 478 retention bracket in malaysia sad.gif so need to order from US lo.

he didnt stated the reason for it. he just said 'Before doing so, you also need to purchase our P4-478 conversion kit and a metal back plate is highly recommended.'

Errrrr don't Ultra 120's fit only on LGA 775 using the standard retention bracket holes the mobo has?

although you could try getting the AM2 version and use the Socket 478 backets designed for Ultra 90

i think so after some reading in its website and online. but thread starter said that it can solve by using the 478 retention bracket. i thought that only applied on HR series and Ultra 90.

Doom just pointed out one very important fact. Ultra 120 and Ultra 90 will place horizontal if use in Socket 478 because of the 478 retention bracket and it is not vertical placement like those we see in socket 775. according to Doom, this will damage your mobo if use in long run due to the unnatural way of placement and sheer weight of that heatsink.

irangan's motheboard processor heatsink retention is in the other way, you're motherboard processor heatsink retention is on horizontal, while irangan's motherboard is in vertical position, and with the DPS2 thingie, it'll make it harder to find a heatsink, and an Ultra 120 maybe would be a "NO" to his setup, who knows... sweat.gif

if that is the case, you can always use those Global Express Mail (Priority Mail) or courier company like DHL and Fedex and requested them to stick a 'Fragile' logo on the box. should be no problem.. normally ppl use cheaper method like Airmail, cheaper way = cheaper services smile.gif

the price seems to be fair as if u go to local shop here would be RM32....

unless u make a bulk orders than u can get the shipping cost covered with other items as well...

shipping fee is always the most expensive ... else i would ask my brother at US there buy and send it to me .....

if u are paying using paypal, pls call your credit card to inform them about the transaction else most of the bank will block your payment if you seldom purchase stuff from oversea. so if u dont inform them earlier, it will greatly delay your payment and shipment. smile.gif

i will buy the ultra 90 if not, the placing is not weird. sigh...

Western Union ar, they will charge according to percentage (i forgot the numbering) of your payment. the more you send, the more expensive. you go to bank (e.g. Bank Bumiputra Commerce), tell them that u want to use western union to make payment. they will give you a form to fill then they will calculate for you, then pay in RM.

btw, if can, dont use money transfer or western union. it will take days to clear the payment. try to borrow credit card from dad (before i got mine smile.gif) or friend then use paypal to make the payment. Easier, Faster and Hassle Free. btw, most of online sales website only accept paypal payment for international customer like us.

EDITED: but remember to do some research on the website first before make the payment. there is alot of fake website around especially those from china. you made the payment but you wont get the item smile.gif

That's a really nice heatsink, but kinda hard to find some reviews on it, plus, is it on sale already or still on shows like the CM Fujin?

the shop itself dont provide delivery to KL, i already called and confirm that. next week, my friend going to get me the Scythe Andy Samurai Master from the supplier and send it to me.

i will try to ask whether he can get the fan for you or not and send it together with my cpu cooler. but dont put too high hope because my friend is working and he kind of busy.

Guys, i'm going to change my heatsink later on, which one should i go for?
Ultra 120? Infinity? [Please don't recommend any Thermaltake Heatsinks laugh.gif]

ok... i will try to look for all those Noctua cooler. i also going for those chipset cooler. looks really nice.

about the passport, you need to prepare 3 Passport size picture, IC photocopy and RM300. just go to your nearest Jabatan Imigresan< wrong spelling. buy a form at RM1 then fill it up, get a waiting number, submit the form, wait again to make the payment and DONE. come back again tomorrow to collect the passport smile.gif

sHawTY, go for the Scythe product since you have been using Thermalright products for quite sometime smile.gif Scythe Infinity should be a good start. got alot of good feedback and review.
