Your friend probably don't know anything about resolution. He/She probably didn't set the LCD to display native resolution. That's why it seemed strecthed.

I don't get what you mean by auto-correcting. Is it the colours? Is it the contrast? Etc. So many things. Anyway, all these are configurable to your likings. Either through photoshop itself, 3rd party softwares, LCD settings or graphics card settings.


Added on May 20, 2007, 7:51 pmI also do graphical works. Used to have Photoshop 6.0, then 7.0, then CS, CS2 and now CS3 EXT. I also use other softwares but you don't use them, so they're out of topic... Anyway, widescreen is the way to go. you'll love it for more than just graphical works.
