December 2006 Backward Compatibility Update?

For a brief moment in time, an updated version of the Xbox 360's backwards compatibility list was exposed for all the internet to see. Though it was yanked in a matter of minutes, one new entry stood out like an atomic mushroom cloud in a serene, children's playground. Not to imply that Psychonauts is capable of melting children or flooding large masses of land with deadly radiation, but its presence was rather devastating to the psyche.

In case you weren't aware (and clearly you aren't much of the time), Tim Schafer and his team at Double Fine did extraordinary things with Psychonauts, managing to take the seemingly incompatible platformer and adventure genres and mash them together like two pieces of clay. That's before they twisted the whole mess into a variety of amusing shapes.

Oh, there's a whole bunch of other new games too. However, when asked about the exact release date of this December update, Microsoft warned us that the list is not final. "We'll have more news soon -- as I'm sure you're aware with any software development, things can change at any time so we want to make an announcement when we're sure we've got the final, solid list."

View the non-final, slightly wobbly list of additions after the break.

The following games are listed as "new" in the preliminary December update list:

* All-Star Baseball 2005
* Buffy the Vampire Slayer
* Dead or Alive Ultimate
* Destroy All Humans!
* Dynasty Warriors 4
* Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick
* Fahrenheit / Indigo Prophecy
* Family Guy
* Far Cry: Instincts
* Incredibles
* I-Ninja
* Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude
* Mortal Kombat: Armageddon
* Moto-GP
* MX Unleashed
* Open Season
* Pariah
* Psychonauts
* Rainbow Six: Lockdown
* Rapala Pro Fishing
* Scarface
* Shark Tale
* Shenmue II *
* Splinter Cell: Double Agent
* The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie
* Ultimate Spider-Man
* Wakeboarding Unleashed: Featuring Sean Murray
* Whacked!
* Winback 2: Project Poseidon
* Xiaolin Showdown

Dead or Alive Ultimate is in the list. My wish *almost* come true! rclxms.gif

Microsoft has released XNA Game Studio Express that can be used to develop games for both Windows & Xbox 360. Membership fees is only USD 99/year.

I'm kind of interested to develop games for Xbox 360. If only they'll allow us to sell the game on marketplace.... sad.gif

Internet seems like its good again. Anyway, read in papers that most ISP have gotten at least 87% of the connection up and running.

Microsoft is launching Windows Vista at my campus (MMU Cyberjaya) today and tomorrow. Every staff & student is eligible for a copy of Vista Business Edition. They are also an exhibition of Xbox 360. I saw Gamers Hideout's business card around the Xbox 360's booth. Didn't see Djinn anywhere though.

I forgot to take the booth's picture. doh.gif

There are Xbox 360's exhibition, talks, Vista & Office 2007 Demo, and seminars, but it seems like everybody was more interested to get their free copy of Vista. I have to queue for 3 ½ hours to get my Vista copy, the event starts at 11am, and I came at 10:30am, but there's already a huge crowd there. My number in queue is number 706. sweat.gif

I have some pics, but they're lots of noise artifacts. The lighting in the hall is kinda dim, and my phone's camera didn't have flash. sad.gif

msoft giving away free full version of vista?
*
Yup, full version. I'm not sure whether it's retail or OEM version. They're not giving Vistas in Retail boxes for sure. To get your copy of Vista, you must bring your Student ID, a piece of blank DVD. Each student will be given unique cd-key. According to the MS rep, the cd-key is valid till 2012.

The process to get the Vista is tedious. You have to queue up at any booth, complete a task (answer some questions, watch their demo, etc), and they'll give you 1 stamp. There are 7 booths, but you only need to collect 5 stamps, and then you can claim your copy of Vista.

QUOTE(un9ku @ Feb 27 2007, 06:04 PM)
n oso, is there a catch for getting free vista?
*
The catch is like I mentioned in the previous page.

Long queue outside the hall, have to complete 5 tasks and get 5 stamps, after you got 5 stamps, you have to queue again 3 times, the first it to show to the committee that you have completed 5 tasks, and got 5 stamps. The second time, you have to queue up to get your CD-Key. The third time is to get them to burn a copy of Vista installation disc.

In the end, you have to queue up in 9 long lines. 1 time to get into the hall, 5 times to complete the tasks and get the stamp, 3 times to get your CD-Key and your Installation Discs.

Took me 3 ½ hours to get my Vista. sad.gif

QUOTE(Mr. Alby @ Feb 27 2007, 07:27 PM)
huh?...burn a copy of vista?.........errr...if MS itself allow this,isnt it technically illegal?...
*
They didn't give us Vistas in Retail Box. You have to bring a blank DVD, and they'll burn a copy for you. Microsoft's representative was there, so I think it's legal. They give each of us unique CD-Key.
