No she don't fight criminals for justice or mafia bosses and wear costume like Spider-man/Daredevil, Jessica Jones is an anti-hero type like The Punisher, she really don't care much about people in her city.

in season 1, she faced a man called Kilgrave ( The Purple Man ) who can mind control people include herself. Kilgrave used to mind control Jessica Jones for months and obsess with her and her powers.

How Jessica Jones escape from Kilgrave power ? Sorry I don't want to spoil it, go 'marathon watch' all episode Jessica Jones now
