Anybody wrote this letter? biggrin.gif

Fixed deposition calculation rate differs:

QUOTE
I WISH to highlight that not all bank practices are the same.

Most banks ensure that interest is paid on the next working day.

For example, for fixed deposits maturing on Saturday, Oct 3,

payment of interest will be calculated up to Monday, Oct 5 if we uplift on that day (the next working day).

However, in this case with one foreign bank which automatically rolls over on a non-working day, that is, Saturday Oct 3 (if instruction is given to roll over) and pays interest up to Oct 3 only.

Customers lose two days’ interest if we uplift on Oct 5.

Many banks will also roll over on Oct 3 if instruction is given to roll over, but if uplifted on the next working day, Oct 5, interest will be paid up to Oct 5.

But if we wish to continue and roll over, the next maturity date will be on Oct 3.

It would be good if the practice was generally the same for all the so that customers would not lose out in interest payment.

Went to uplift my FD and close account in MBSB today. Was thinking, great, have to pay commission for banker's cheque. So I went there, told them I want to uplift and put in banker's cheque. They said ok. After a while, everything settled and I got a cheque instead! Saved me on commission! rclxms.gif

I guess normal banks don't issue normal cheque? hmm.gif

I have FD in Ambank that matured last week and planning to put into promotional FD tomorrow. Can I confirm whether Ambank will allow me to use it as fresh fund if I dump in some more money?

Say 30k FD (Ambank) matured and I dump in another 30k for Ambank promotion FD. Can consider "fresh"? hmm.gif

Can always ask them and see. Tell them you want to add extra. Usually if the new amount is min >50% than original amount, most banks will see it as fresh funds.

I see. So if got 30k FD, then my chances are better if I put additional 50k? I just don't want to waste my time and petrol to go there and find out I can't do it.

Afaik no as I try b4
No harm ask them again

Shucks. Was just thinking, instead of 30k + 30k = 60k, what if I bring a 90k cheque to put FD and IBFT the 30k to other banks? hmm.gif

Is only for some banks only. If I am not mistaken, Affin and HL allows that. Say you have rm30k, just top up rm15k to make it a  total of Rm45k. Just check again. Call up their customer service and enquire.
*
I see. I think I will just top up more then. smile.gif

QUOTE(bbgoat @ Nov 22 2015, 09:34 AM)
RHB allowed me to top up just few hundreds to matured FD to get FD promo rate. UOB at one time asked me to top up 10k to matured FD to get FD promo. But now seems to be not allowing that.

Few factors to consider. No hard and fast rules. Depends on the branch as well, some branch may short of FD targets. Call up the bank to enquire esp if you know someone there. But 30k top up sounds good esp the min for the AmBank FD promo is 10k only.  biggrin.gif

Cool. So I guess if I top up more, the chances are better. Ok, will try tomorrow. smile.gif

I tried this with some banks & it works. ( Be nice about it and let your charm work on the cashier smile.gif )
Withdraw your FD as 'cash'.
Then place FD as fresh funds.
If the cashier enter the fund for new FD as 'transfer from FD withdrawal', then it's not "fresh"
*
Nice! Will try that.

I managed to do that with ambank but already know the staff for years. no need to withdraw as cash, just paper transactions.
*
I don't really know the staff but hope it will work for me too.

QUOTE(sandkoh @ Nov 22 2015, 12:55 PM)
ambank can mix and match cash and cheque for fd. some banks do not allow.

Glad to hear that. Ok, tomorrow I go on my expedition!!! biggrin.gif

Ok, just came back from my Ambank "expedition". biggrin.gif

As mentioned by our forumers, Ambank have no problems mixing cheque and matured FD. It was smooth-sailing all the way. Went there with my cheque. Told them I want to uplift my FD and put in new promotion FD together with the cheque. They said ok, processed it and settled quickly. Took the 2 years 4.6% as I don't want to play musical chair. blush.gif

I did ask them how much do Ambank accept as top-up to consider old fund as "fresh fund". The lady said they usually accept if the top-up is 20% or more of the existing fund.
