i was not able to open the promo fd at ocbc (PJ branch) due to my IC address is at other state and my home address is at KL. They requested me to bring my offered letter coz im working nearby the branch and my home address utility bill as supporting doc. Kinda troublesome.
Kindly take note forumer.

this sounds silly. i bet they thought you were laundering. you should raise your voice and ask why.

i find malaysian banks are over paranoid. everytime i walk into a bank to open an account, the first thing they will ask is where i work and where i live. they will be hesitant to open account for you if your answer is nowhere near the branch.

ocbc's fd 4.5% is promoted as online, and yet you have to walk into a branch to get it!

you scrolled down, but didn't you see "OCBC Online Fixed Deposit Exclusive"?

I didn't say they offer 4.5% for online Fd. i was lamenting they promoted in a misleading manner.

This is standard I think. Annoying but necessary. And in my case it was same city different taman. The officer said cannot open because there is another public bank nearer to the address in ic. Luckily brought utility bills out by accident, so account opened

double standard. making things difficult all in the name of anti-laundering and yet the big guys are exempted.

imho, just plain stupid and unnecessary. public bank is one of the banks that tried to give me problems. once i went to kl main to open account and they tried to stop me. i raised my voice and asked, "i always shop at klcc, so why i cannot use this branch?"

scb is another crazy bank. they rejected me, so i crossed the street to hsbc and put my money there.

nowadays, all branches are computerised and linked. opening account in one branch is no different from opening in other branches. if bnm wants to track small fish like us, just use our ic numbers and they can find out everything.
