After u disposed i.e. no more holding any units, C618 (if u still keep the formula there, which is units x current price) would be zero anyway.

Exactly. My point is...

I still put the date there at B618. So I was thinking just now if it's because one got date, one no value that's why come out #NUM error.

Anyway, do you extend your XIRR calculation to CMF?

Which I believe if you do, will get lower figure.

I maintain 3 sets of XIRR calculation...

Look at my column J...my equity and bond funds I classify them as "Investment", meant for long-term investment. CMF and formerly AmIncome Plus I classify them as "Reserves", which are my excess cash reserves.

1. IRR for Reserves, currently 3.18%
2. IRR for Investments, currently 7.5%
3. IRR for overall, currently 5.7%
Just tested on my worksheet. Even if u put date and/or maintained the current value formula in Column C, XIRR won't get screwed up. Wonder what went wrong for your worksheet rclxub.gif
*
Told you. It's because of the second batch of AmDynamic which I invested through bank. Missed out the sale date. That's why didn't work.

I think IRR overall make more sense? After all, it is money unutilize which could have been put in EPF for instance.

So for money working + left idle, 5.7% is way below EPF standard of 6ish. So would it be better if put in EPF? Just for discussion purpose.

I maintain only (2). Indirectly bluffing myself la.

CMF is my spare cash and also part of my emergency funds. U won't put your emergency funds with EPF, right? doh.gif
*
Spare cash = cash that can be used for investment. A person can put extra cash into EPF right?

If emergency fund, yes. Cannot argue. But inside your CMF, you know a X figure you can't touch because that's your emergency fund already? Die die also won't touch?

Again, for discussion purpose.

To me, CMF is money not utilize, idle. Opportunity cost losing. If I sideline half the year, I missed out on EPF dividend.

That's why to me stock and UT must get better return than EPF. If not, what's the point? Better put in EPF right?

https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3730638/+120

or try the portfolio combination as in post# 1806, page 91?

as usual....caveat emptor!

Good discussion.

Let's say you invest 5 years period. Average return you get 3%. Means something is wrong right? Would you liquidate everything and just put in EPF for better return? Or buy dividend stock? Or just lock in FD?

Like gambling, some people gamble for the sake of the thrill and don't care win or lose.

Unless you invest or punt stock, frequently buy/sell UT for the thrill. Then what I said doesn't apply. If you want make money and you not doing a good job, better to let EPF do for you or FD with no risk right?

if you want to use EPF to invest...make SURE the returns can be at least 30% more than the ave returns of the past 3~5 yrs EPF return...else better consider EPF as FI funds.

yes,...if average is about 3% pa.....need to be frank and analyse WHY?
traded too often?
buy based on past performance?
FI too heavy?
too focused on a single country?
etc, etc....

better talk to the CIS if after 3yrs still at 3% pa...
*
We're talking about EXTRA money that could be put in EPF. Not money taken out to invest.

But yeah. I get what you mean.

No la. Maybe not 3% so terrible. Maybe 5% average?

Maybe someone bought in at the peak le. That's why 3% over 5 years. Crash and recover.

(suddenly your viet moi want to get married, your family want you to global travel with them,...etc, etc ...when one want extra money,..but locked in EPF...how?)

So you think next year US growth will be bad?

But this year US growth has been -1.1% according to FSM HK article. So next year should perform better on low base this year right?

I believe FSM HK research article only research on corporate growth.

As you probably already know, GDP take into account consumption, investment, government investment + government spending and net exports/imports.

So yes, there is a possibility US will show some growth, because of its low base this year.

But as the past few posts mention, I'm definitely looking at China/HK market.
