how much workout is too much?
recently joined a gym, after first day. muscle ached really serious (know some pain should be expected and i understands it)
problem is my left thigh cramps even with the slightest movement, and i can barely move...
not normal right?
does the gym instructor need to tailor make workout intensity for different person or its the same for everybody...
thanks for guiding a newbie here

It's normal to experience severe doms for first timer.
Overtraining is when you can't go to gym for a week due to soreness that affects your training program. Keep the weight/rep/set based on the program and progress slowly even though you can lift more than that.

Getting Started

|
Newbie mistake ; you think you can lift more so you lift heavier than you should. Stick with lighter dumbell/barbell then increase slowly, some people said, the good weight to increase is 1.25KG/2.5KG per weeks.
Don't under estimate the power of warmup and warming down. Some newbie eager to start lifting they forgot/tend to skip warming up and too tired to warming down.

If its soreness, then it's normal to have severe DOMS when you just started out. Heck, I trained my legs after just a week of rest, my DOMS lasted for over 4 days and I still feel it today.

No worry
Its normal for newbie
Ofcour do proper warm up and don't lift with ego. Start light, like very light. Focus on the right form and posture, only do deadlift and squat if you know what you are doing.
I cringe every time I saw newbie deadlift.
