QUOTE(AVFAN @ Apr 15 2016, 08:02 PM) this is the impt thing. That's right - when the DPU drops, investors would impose a lower price onto it if they are to hold it. And,... if the DPU drops again, investors would repeat the above. It becomes a vicious cycle, until the price drops to a certain floor.bad news if price is low but div goes lower as well. it will become another SABANA or LIPPO! be very careful with dropping prices and dropping div! What is this floor ?? The floor arrived at when the DPU does not drop any further,... |

For certain REITs and KepCorp, Entry Price is important. This morning, I keep reiterating that Entry Price is important. This came about from the few AGMs that I attended the last few days.
However,.................if the price has a strong tendency to keep dropping, then an investor must be more of a speculator in order not to lose money. He must know when to pull-out, and to cutloss bravely. |

HPH Trust AGM tomorrow morning, a counter denominated in the USD, with bad financials, and dropping divvy since 2012.
Divvy is paid out in the HKD, and can be asked to be converted into the SGD or the USD upon payout from HK. One can be careful enough to ask for the divvy to be paid out in the original currency of the payout, ie the HKD, and to be dropped into a HKD foreign currency account. When the exchange rate is in favour of the HKD over the SGD or the USD, then the investor can ask fro the divvy to be converted into the required currency. An investor will therefore need to know the exchange rate movement of the HKD, vs the SGD and the USD. To a large extent, the HKD is 'pegged' to the USD, hence there is a safety margin here, which makes the divvy quite attractive. But the calculation of yield tends to be affected by the USD-HKD Exchange Rate because :- 1) the price of the unit is in the USD, and 2) the divvy is denominated in the HKD. At the current interbank exchange rate today for the USDHKD of 7.7557, the total DPU payout of 34.40 HK Cts turns out to be USD 0.04435. Dividing this DPU by the last traded price of HPH Trust = USD0.04435 / USD0.500 provides a yield of 8.871%, a very acceptable yield, in my opinion. One can take the view that there is currency risk in this yield, HOWEVER, one can also take a view that the exposure to the Hong Kong Dollar is A MEANS OF DIVERSIFICATION into a respectable currency, the HK Dollar. Frankly, I wouldn't mind holding the HK Dollar. The AGM tomorrow is going to be very important - if the BOD is able to convince us/me that there are bright spots ahead in spite of the challenging numbers in the financial reports, then I will invest further into this counter, as a vehicle for investing my USD holdings and an instrument for me to collect more HKD. |

QUOTE(prince_mk @ Apr 17 2016, 10:53 AM) if the counter is good and has potential for long term, why do we wan to cut loss bravely. Good points, Prince,...if, the numbers do not reflect well, the macro-environment goes against the counter, AND more importantly,... the BOD confirms the above in an AGM, not able to convince us on how to turnaround the company, and finally, can only indicate now and again that they can only try their best, the these events would trounce our theories as to what you have written.can we keep them for some time? i thought investment does need time to make profit? But,..having said the above, the divestor of course needs to find another counter/instrument to 'replace' Cache. An investor must never be short of instruments to invest in,.......hence, he must have a very wide knowledge of the available instruments around him, at his disposal,.... |

QUOTE(prince_mk @ Apr 17 2016, 11:24 AM) Hansel, OK,...I'll write-up whatever I can about the AGM later on,... There are other AGMs too in the coming week - First REIT and KepCorp on Tuesday, something on Wednesday,.. then the gem Parkway Life REIT on Friday, to be held at the big auditorium in Gleneagles Hospital, Sgp...then we are hoping you may share with us on the cheese of the AGM tomorrow. besides this, would there be any other instrument paying out divvy denominated USD or HKD that you might see any potential to replace this counter? As for other USD-denom counters in Sgp, I have studied The Mandarin Oriental International, but the DPU has dropped in the ann't for FY2015 full-year DPU. The AGM will be held in The Bermuda Islands sometime in June,... The Jardine Group also pays out divvies, but the yield is poor. Look at JMH, JSH, Jardine C&C and Dairy Farm. The Mandarin Oriental group is also part of the Jardine family. |
