Without filters, you can try to take sun pics when it is cloudy or hazy, at sunrise and sunset, or shoot its reflection in water, etc.

There are many kinds of solar filters you can play with if you're so inclined. Each will show you different aspects of the sun, and some of them are pretty costly. Solar photography is now very popular with astronomers since they can do it in the day time.......unlike the normal forms of astrophotography which require dark skies.
