It's not about learning Mandarin anymore. The way the SJKC managing their school is very different. They maybe very annoying in asking for money every now and then, but they will ensure everything stays relevant to the latest development. That's what make the difference.

Back in the 80's, SJKC and SK are both ok for the Chinese community. I have friends from SK that doesn't read Chinese. My wife couldn't even speak Mandarin. But my generation now is either sending their kids to private (international) or Chinese school. No one is sending their kids to SK anymore.

I came from SK, and i saw with my own eyes the decline of the general quality and standards.

Probably came from sk school.with all malay students. The result of neighbouring vernacular school absorbing  other races in the vicinity.

dont really understand the fuss about abolishment of such schools, why not? and along the way also abolish religious schools, quota system and what ever system that restricts one race to another.

my only worry is that for srjk ©'s in particular, their funding and environment is miles and eons better than anything the government can put up over its years. the facilities they have can tapau anything the government has in their own schools, whatever that is working there is good and needs to be replicated into other schools.

but i do note the point that people argue, demographics from some areas will result to the same issue to arise. how true is that tho, remains to be seen.

"computer fees", "ko-kurikulum fees", etc any other name but it costs more than what you would otherwise pay in SK. also let's not forget the half-yearly "donation cards" that teachers tell students to bring home to collect from family members. got minimum amount somemore!

plus, it also depends on your location mah. if i am gonna admit my dotter into this 2 sjkc in my ulu town, very minimal "donations" needed.
but if imma gonna admit her ininto any sjkc in Klang town, in Puchong, in Subang Jaya or PJ - i better start selling my buttocks.

In the eighties n early nineties, I was enrolled into national school. There were substantial non Malays in national schools that time coz the standard were perceived to be equal or just slightly inferior to vernacular schools.

Its not the vernacular schools are breeding racists, or non Malays just 'suddenly' decide to send their children to vernacular schools. Its not surprising if some Malays think this is a form of non malay rebellion against national unity.

It it the dropping standards of our national schools, creeping islamization, and yes, racism in our national schools. Used to be, teachers are racially mixed and teach because they want to impart knowledge. Nowadays, ppl work as teachers because they can't find other jobs. How to be a good teacher like that? What knowledge and attitude can they impart to the students? Compare that against vernacular school teachers. Do you know their performance are constantly reviewed? If the teacher can't perform, out you go.

Contrast that with our national school teachers. What happened to the racist female teacher in namewee's song? What happened to the teachers involved in the bulan puasa makan tandas fiasco?

You want vernacular schools to die off? Easy. Increase the national schools standard. Hire only dedicated teachers who teach coz they want to teach, not teach coz they can't find any other job (now this is a sweeping statement, i am sure there are teachers who are dedicated, but I leave it to you guys to see with your own eyes how is it with the national school teachers, what's the ratio between dedicated vs just teach just for sake of working). And leave racism out of national schools.

If national schools can produce BETTER quality students than vernacular schools, you don't need to shout close them, they will close themselves due to low enrollment.

Rather than close vernacular schools now and hope to fix the national school later, fix the national schools FIRST ffs!

I want the new unified school system to be race neutral with better educatiob syllabus, better yet, make it compulsory for all malaysian to learn bm, chineese, indian and English language.

So that we all have the advantage of communicating with each other better.

Moral studies should be replaced with Chinese or Tamil. Moral studies is a useless subject. A person who scores A doesnt mean he has high moral values and vice versa. Moral values should be instilled by all teachers regardless of subject

If you are saying unfairness are one of the cause od disunity then i agree with u, but the issue we are talking here in this thread is about making schools to have similar and unified syllabus with no race specific enrollment criteria.

So I would go for that, one syllabus, one school system with unified teaching mechnism that comprises of all existing schools into one type of school.

An environment where all race will work together, eat together, live together, and learn together as a unified team.

Speaks the same language, able to communicate better, and respect each other differences.

It will be much better than just race specific curriculum and language environment.

U want unity and equality, this new school will be the bluprint of new Malaysian.

Join in SK for the sake of unity , then come to local U, all seperated due to some racial committes, after U then racial party. Back to square one.

Lol, i was referring to the enrollment system as a whole, that includes the sk and skjc skji whatever.

And im not saying current sk succeeded in promoting unity, im talking about a new unified national school with new education system and better learning experience.

And u people seems to have this idea that the govt will insist on leaving current schools to remain inefficient. For whatever unknown reason.

We still have the opportunity to design a better system, that is why I support for one unified schools, as long as they revamp the whole syllabus to create a better learning experience for the whole students.

This includes retraining the teachers, redesign school subject, giving additional options for chineese language or indian language etc.
