Yes, that time I was also beersemangat to go for gatherings, played with people's gears.

Like I mentioned, people have shifted their interest. Photography using a camera is no longer the "in" thing.
I was a hardcore Canon user, ended my era there with a 5D and a few L lenses. Then, I got fed up with heavy gears and shifted to Fujifilm X-T1. Never regretted though, I brought it to all my trips and captured fantastic photos with lighter gears.
It is just that it is most of the time kept in storage, only take out once a while for trips.

These days for casual photography, people tend to stick to their smartphones.

Yeah and for Facebook. I'm not an active user of Instagram, my last photo was back in 2012.

Skills are primary, gears are secondary.

That said I am not good in both.

I'm not a fan of converters, will prefer lenses to serve the purpose. I always feel that converters will degrade the IQ of photos.
However, a check via Google shows that it is a good stuff.

My Lowepro Passport Sling bag is still in plastic and unwrapped since I bought it in last year.

These days I just wrap everything with a camera protection cloth ala wrapper style and put in any of my backpack.
