Hi,

Bought 408 model 2.0 back in May 2012. First time in 4 years, the car broke down on the road at Kajang SILK highway yesterday evening.

My speed gradually reduced and stopped. Been trying to push accelerator but nothing happens. Battery is ok & even starting the engine is fine. However, can't move the car & aircond also weirdly stopped working. Suspect is the gearbox problem.

The tow truck came within 60mins & towed it to SC Chan Sow Lin. Until today yet to check. Sigh. Anybody face similar problem?

Now it is in 4th year meaning it's under extended warranty, right? I have to expect longer time processes under extended warranty? Sigh. Raya Aidilfitri is one month away and hope could get replacement car by then.

Any update on your case bro? mine is 2.0 year 2013. So far no issue.

Hi, sorry for not updating about my case. My 408 NA broke down a day before puasa (Sunday, 5 June) and sent straight to nearby SC Chan Sow Lin. They can't check for a week due to their current work load and only came back on Monday, 13 June said that my timing belt broken.

So need replacement and perform overhaul for total cost of RM 10.8k! I wasn't convinced enough as many parts need to replace. For example, new engine mounting needed but when I asked has it crack yet and they said not yet but afraid it will when dismantle it.

My mileage was at 87k km when it broke down. During 80k km service, SC Petaling Jaya informed don't need to perform major service (including timing belt replacement) and told only need to do it during 100k km. As such, SC Chan Sow Lin advised me to tow the car back to SC Petaling Jaya and try claim warranty there.

So I towed back the car to SC Petaling Jaya on Wednesday, 15 June and they managed to complete checking on Saturday, 18 June and quoted for total cost of RM 8k++...

Since SC Petaling Jaya informed don't need to perform major service during 80k km (unfortunately the guy who told that already resigned), he will ask his manager on Monday (today) for warranty replacement.

Fortunately, the manager agreed to absorb the cost RM 8k++ as it was a mistake by their side not to replace timing belt during 80k km service. rclxm9.gif

So they just open the repair job but can't promise to have the car ready before raya though..
They don't have courtesy car for me to use temporarily (SC Chan Sow Lin has 5 but all used up). Hopefully they can finish repair it soonest..

Hi guys,

Just some update from me as it was a quite some time I didn't visit this page. I own 408 NA for four years now with mileage of 103k. I managed to claim my claim under the extended warranty for aircond problem (ie not cold) recently.

Total repair cost under warranty claim is as follows:
- Evaporator 1 unit RM1,984
- Aircond gas refill RM120
- Replace evaporator housing RM70

I lodged my complain in January 2016. It took awhile for the SC to process my claim. After few follow ups,  SC finally called me to send in my car for adjuster's inspection in early June 2016. The approval process by the insurance company plus the repair took about two weeks plus.
*
Hi, looks like I have the same problem too. My 408 NA also four years now. My aircond is just cool enough during early mornings and nights only. However, I can't feel the cold much during mid day like it used to be.

I'll call SC to check my car. Your repair cost looks like able to cover under extended warranty. Is there any cost I have to pay?

I just sent my car for inspection last week 4 Aug 2016 and the technician confirm cooling coil leaking.. After that they prepare the EWP report which took 3 hours for them to consolidate all necessary info. The service rep told me that it might take up to 14 days for Tune Insurance to review the report before sending the adjuster.. Then another several days for approval and restoration process will start after claim has been approved.. All in all, it might take about 3 weeks..

Anyway, yesterday (11 Aug 2016) I recieved call from service rep and he ask me to send my car for adjuster evaluation.. And today, whenI visit the centre again to pick up some of my stuff left in the car, dashboard already dismantle and they told me the adjuster had performed the inspection.. They estimate the approval shall be ready by Tuesday and most probably my car can be collected on Thursday next week.. 👌

So far it has been ok for me.. Hopefully their estimation is correct so I can experince the process for EWP claim done as quick as in 2 weeks time..😁😁😁
*
Looks like your SC is efficient. May I know which SC did you go? I suspect my car also due to cooling coil leakage. I did gas refill months ago but the aircond now back not being cool during mid day.

It's Peugeot Glenmarie and believe it or not, my car completely restored yesterday and I've collected it today...

Aside from the 3 times of revisit for the same aircond issue, I would call this as going beyond customer expectations.. I mean seriously.. The adjuster just came down last Friday and my already repaired by Monday.. That's so unexpected efficient.. I even check out the approval letter and the date stated was 14 August 2016 ( its Sunday bros) Kudos to Peugeot Glenmarie.. 👏👏👏

Hopefully this gonna be the absolute solution for my aircond issue as haze season is approaching..
*
Thanks for the advice. I've sent it to SC branch Desa Pandan and they also managed to resolve my aircond issue under EWP.
24 Aug - Sent to SC
25 Aug - Confirmed Cooling Coil leaked. Process EWP claim
3 Sept - EWP claim approved. No need for adjuster to come.
5 Sept - Ordered replacement part.
6 Sept - Replacement part arrived.
7 Sept - Sent back my car to repair.
9 Sept - Aircond fixed. No need to pay anything which cost RM2k++

Hi, I'm on the 4th year owning 408 NA. Heard abnormal sound during braking and sent to SC Desa Pandan which later found faulty on my disc brake and brake pad (both at rear). After 15% discount, they quoted disc brake (quantity 2 needed) each at RM 602 and brake pad (quantity 1 needed) each at RM 483.

Are the quoted price ok? Or should I do it outside as it won't affect extended warranty, right? If so, which external SC you guys can recommend?

Get if done out side bro. Brake pads are less than  $200, brake disc around $250 - $300. Roughly $400 each wheel ( disc + pads) labor $120. Will not break warranty.
*
Thanks SKYjack for always being helpful here in this forum. Took your advice and cancelled my order with SC Desa Pandan. Did it outside and just need to replace both rear brake pads at RM 480 (original Peugeot part). Apparently the brake pads (haven't change since bought 4 years ago) used was Bosch brand..

As for the rear brake disc, no need to replace but only do light skimming at RM 50 each (so did both 2 x 50 = RM 100). They charge labour RM 20 for each rear wheel.

where did you do it? any workshop specialize in Peugeot car?

I'm not sure about external specialized Peugeot SC. I just sent to nearest workshop which is at Castrol Auto Service at Esplanade Bukit Jalil. It was done less than half a day.

Does anyone here experience fuel leakage after filling full at petrol station? It seems mine (408 NA) doesn’t detect when it’s full and went exceed RM 100 and later found the petrol leaked at the bottom as if like spilling out excessive fuel from the tank....

When my pug 3008 compressor started to have the screeching sound, i bought my car to non-SC Peugeot specialist. He also recommended to change both condenser and compressor. It has been almost one year now. If not mistaken damage approx rm2.8k.

Amost a year ago (August 2016) my aircond (408 NA bought on August 2012) was not cold and managed to get cooling coil replacement under waranty within 2-3 weeks process at SC Desa Pandan (closed now).

Now just today (16 May 2017) my aircond does not blow any at all. All SC are full and can only start check next few weeks. Warranty will expire in next 2-3 months. Contemplating to send this to SC due to long awaiting time. May I know a good aircond shop outside that can repair this?

I went to Glenmarie anyway. They checked & found compressor is okay. Just the aircond blower motor is faulty & can claim under extended warranty. Now awaiting warranty process to complete before they could do the repair. The replacement part already in stock.

just now call to SC and they say part still not arrive yet..

Last Wednesday I was at Glenmarie & did asked about compressor (for 408 NA type). They said shipment already on the way & expect 2 weeks to arrive. Glad mine wasn't due to compressor (they said identified enhancement on this only for 408 turbo) and later found out aircond blower motor was at fault.

I’m a 408 NA (2.0) owner who will reach 5 years on August 2017. I’ve done my 110k km service last month and experienced warranty replacement of aircond cooling coil & aircond blower motor (both in the final year of extended warranty).

Now after my warranty expires later in next few months, should I maintain service at Peugeot branch SC as they have all the records? Or should I go outside for cheaper option? Not sure about compressor recall for 408 NA whether applicable to expired warranty. If so, is it necessary for me to maintain service at Peugeot branch SC?

Where is the best outside service centre in Klang Valley? Hope they are way cheaper than usual at Peugeot branch SC.

Anyone ever got error 'Gearbox Fault, Repair Needed'?
The error message pop up once on HUD and gone. But exclamation symbol in triangle appear on odometer. Letter S and snow symbol also blinking  beside the D.
But after shut down engine and restart, all symbols gone and car back to normal. Happened 3 times today while traveling from KL to Malacca and back.
Mine is 408 2.0.
Thanks.

This happened to me now. What was the reason for this issue? Did you manage to repair this?

I've been using 408 2.0 car since August 2012 (6 years now) and worst experience were on the aircond (4th year - cooling coil, condensor & 5th year - aircond blower motor) and unfortunate broken timing belt (3rd year - due to missed out replacement during 80k km mileage service but now had revised every 60k km)

Now experienced worn out totally on mounting bracket, shock absorber, etc at the engine (they are under wear & tear items so can't claim warranty - so cost about RM 3.6k). They have to bring down the engine and also have to change the drive shaft (this cost RM 1.8k). Total damage cost including top up aircond gas, labour, battery (somehow less 30% power can't reset the system, so have to buy panasonic DIN62L priced at RM 440) & other consumable parts for overall cost at RM 6.8k. Ughhhhh. Apparently SC PJ told me that these will happen every 6 years!!

My 408 NA car was bought in 2012 (142k km mileage and just had semi major service for 150k km on 4th May 2019) and just had a really bad experience. Drove from KL to Ipoh on 2nd Hari Raya (6 June 2019) in really bad traffic jam and after 4 hours, the car was jerking and shown engine faulty message. So had to stop before Bidor exit (not even reach Tapah after 4 hours driving!). Even restart engine, still jerking so had to call towing back to KL. Since it's public holiday, hard to get tow truck and only get confirmation after 1 hour (this already 6pm). The tow truck only arrive at 9pm due to massive traffic jam and reached SC PJ at midnight.

Since everyone on holiday, the car can only work on Monday (10 June 2019). They diagnosed ignition coil & spark plug as major item to replace to prevent the faulty message. They also noticed catalytic converter a concern but since it cost RM 4.5k, it was optional for me not to replace it as they told me that it can last another 1 year.

So I just picked up the car again just now and guess what.... it happened again!!! jerking, engine faulty message, long to reach 2nd speed and had to call the supervisor again and he advised to go ahead with that slow 1st speed to reach home rather than stop as fear won't able to restart. He want to arrange tomorrow morning for 3rd party to work on the catalytic converter (this is the main root cause) as cheaper option...

Sigh... after 7 years ownership... this is really bad... definitely i want to sell off the car now.

Anyone can help me to advise where can I change this catalytic converter outside?

Bro, did SC replace all 4 ignition coils? Some SCs replace only the faulty coil. When one coil is defective, the other 3 will fail in a matter of time . Ask SC, if all coils were replaced. If not, I'd advice change the rest.

As for cat converter, get a second opinion for Bros Auto or Renautech.

Dont need to sell your car, going to loose alot due to poor RV. I suggest you do some preventive maintenance, right away!  That will not only bring back your car to live, but will also prevent brakedowns. Here's some maintenance you should do:

1. Decarbo - Walnut blasting will clean all the sludge buildup

2. Cat converter - Service

3. Oxygen sensor - Replace  both
*
They only replaced 1 ignition coil but did changed all 4 spark plugs. Now they said it's not catalytic converter. Maybe faulty installation of the spark plugs replacement. They going to service it tomorrow. Will update the outcome.

Thanks for the preventive maintenance suggestions. Will ask them about the decarbo, cat converter service & oxygen sensor replacement.

They came to my house yesterday to fix it. Apparently the spark plugs were not well installed and found touching. So they replaced it again at no cost and so far the drive feels well.

Since the car will end its 7 years warranty by this September 2019 and next major service at 160km (timing belt, etc) is due on November 2019, I'm planning to service it outside Peugeot SC. Appreciate if all can suggest the place that nearby to Ampang.

Hi, my 408 (2.0) had finished it's 7 years warranty. I'm planning to send service (especially major 140k km mileage service with timing belt replacement) outside rather than Peugeot service centres (as I don't want to spend more than RM 3k for this).

So which workshop should I go? I've seen many wrote here went to Bros Auto or Renautech. Can you guys help to recommend?
