Well, its here. (not quite)

In the past those are leaks.

Now no more.

In any case, there will be 2 flavours:

BlackBerry 10, and BlackBerry-Android (i'm not exactly sure what's the name of the BlackBerry's Android OS will be called)

Please discuss about it here.

I'm already predicting that this phone will create an uproar like how the Passport did.

- Confirmed:
- runs only Android 5.1.1(blergh, I want my BlackBerry 10!)
- MSM 8992 , Snapdragon 808
- 3GB of RAM
- 32GB internal ROM, with expandable MicroSD up to 128GB, if previous history is correct will only take in Class 10 and above cards only.
- will come with some BlackBerry apps such as the Hub, the notes, bla bla. Think of it as Android with BlackBerry stuffs. Hardcore Android purists will call it 'bloatware', so it depends. If its as useful as BlackBerry Apps on BlackBerry 10, its gonna be really good.

- Display at 5.4-Inch, 1440x2560, 537ppi, not sure Super AMOLED or IPS or IGZO, or what.
-Camera - Rear: 18MP, Fast Focus, OIS, 4K video capable. Front: 5MP HD. Uses Schneider Optics's lenses. BlackBeryry's own fast focus based on TOL which was present in the Passport should be here.
- Hybrid touch keyboard (just like the passport, but with full four rows instead of a miniaturized 3 in Passport)
- Full stereo speakers on bottom grill.

(more to come as details emerge)

Nice device for app users.

I have been wanting to use wearables for a while but BB doesn't support this. This new device would be a very good compromise between BB hardcore fans but still want the flexibility of Android.

Only downside is the price. It would be hard to get people to part with their money for something that is perceived to premium when for the same amount of money, I can get one decent android and one old school BB (or new Q20) also can.

Only reserved for the elite.

Price could be an issue, like how the Passport was, and the weak ringgit.

Yet, I'm thinking this android powered phone is unique.

Some new photos and Blackberry Safeguard, ladies and gentlemen.

Blackberry is trying to secure the unsecured OS of Android. Wow. cool2.gif

p/s : We can now change the thread name to Blackberry Priv. smile.gif Although many will prefer to call this device as BB Android or BB Slider.

really interested to know what kind of actual material they use. hopefully it will give premium feel with pretty good camera. To wish the camera will be as good as S6e/Note5/G4 will be too much but anything near to that quality will be great.
perhaps this can be my 1st Bb.

Price is okay, but hopefully it will land here officially and telco will make a plan with it

Don't think that is an issue.

Normally companies tend to purchase in the beginning of the year anyway, and traditionally speaking BlackBerry has often relied on its corporate partners and subscribers to buy in bulks than consumer market (corporate purchases as of 2013 makes up around 70% of the purchases of BlackBerry 10 devices, so I think they're relying on this as a data for sales pitch?

This might be the last phone from BlackBerry.

XDA will have a port version of BB Hub for everyone in a very short time.

And the price.....too expensive.

and i'm sure BlackBerry will try to block it as much as possible tongue.gif

Anyways, i've confirmed that

a) BlackBerry Priv's VKB is the same VKB that's used in all BlackBerry 10 devices.
b) it will have AOSP keyboard, but natively it uses 'BlackBerry Flow' keyboard.

people have been claiming BlackBerry's last models since 2007.

It's still going on. Not an issue.

Nokia came and went kaput.

Palm went kaput waaaay earlier. Tried a revival but stayed kaput.

BlackBerry won't go down without a fight.

Nothing to surprise here, same price with Passport when it's first out the market.
Just our Ringgit is weak. If take last year convert price (3.1), the price for Priv will be RM2170 and if it reached here will be RM2299/2399.

Its very slim, but i wonder why they didn't make it thicker and put a beefier battery. The battery is already 3K mAH, but I don't think it'll hurt with MORE battery?

After all this is an Android, not a BlackBerry 10.

Well, given if you're a user that wants a proper keyboard, i'm pretty sure you won't go for that latest Samsung with the weird keyboard "cover". You can buy a Priv and a half for it, or almost two Privs if you get the proper discount on proper channels.

Hub is one place for all social media (that you installed), messages and email. When you click it will redirect to the app and open the current message. It's a very good place all-in-one incoming message/email/social medias.

Not too active in social media. Message and email either. biggrin.gif

Of all the nice specs, Priv comes with only 2MP front camera. For a USD699 phone, that's consider 'mainstream'.

Blackberry never rate Selfie. Not one bit

Do you expect Blackberry to sell according to our weak ringgit ?
Slide phone, keyboard & both sides curved screen are always expensive individually.
Remember how much they sell for Blackberry Torch ? Now these 3 things combined and the price $700 IS reasonable.

Edited. Most of it say good. Except for engadget biased review.
Read most of the review and happy for Blackberry. Hope that they sell a lot of Priv, make a profit out of it and cancel to shut down their phone production devision. For me price for Priv is reasonable with the spec and functionality.

Which part of these are same to you?

559 gbp to myr = 3688.92 (1 = 6.60)

699 usd to myr = 3045.86 (1 = 4.36)

If you are saying phone that more than 3K are expensive, blame it to our falling currency.
699 USD is the same price for BB Passport last year. If you think it using Android should be cheaper, don't forget the keyboard, the slider and both sides curved screen.

Look at the base model.

If you're planning to get USA models, don't get the AT&T, and Verizon models.

Get the ones from shopblackberry, they're universal.

Although it has a carbon fibre back and BB is usually a robust phone, I think I will break the slider carelessly.

Price wise, think it going to sell beyond the psychological barrier of 3K due to our week currency here. January2016? that's long

Blackberry Hub on Priv is not integrated in the os as BB10 OS from what I read. Most probably email client is using android email app.

The best method is to actually go and try it for yourself. My impression is that its a 1+1, as in stock Google experience until you actually start using BlackBerry Apps.

Just like how swiftkey vs blackberry flow keyboard is. When BlackBerry released their keyboard SwiftKey retaliated by having their own predictions above the words, because that was exclusive to BlackBerry, and when BlackBerry released it for Android it became fair game.

There are tonnes of EMAIL management program, but nothing beats the Hub. The Hub to me is the better, organized, less messier notifications. You can still set (since its android) to have top down notifications or mitigate them all to Hub.

Too bad BlackBerry doesn't actually "rent out" their APKs (there was a plan called "BlackBerry Suite for Android". Or else I would have done it from day one and made full video of it, and why you should consider BlackBerry suite for Android or buy a Priv straight away if you're comfortable with the Android operating system.

Oh don't get me wrong man. I have no problems with what their software is offering. It differentiates them from the many Android devices. What i was doubting is the performance consistency as mentioned and demonstrated by the reviewer. At times it seems inconsistent; sometimes laggy, sometimes smooth, the trackpad is sometimes inverted, etc. Small issues that may build up to be an annoyance (like how old BBs can hang due to heavy BBM message flow). Stock Android seems to be consistent these days so maybe Blackberry will have to pay more attention for their Marshmallow release

Had a few min of play time with the Priv in HK airport. Was selling for HK$6400+. Will that be the indicative pricing here too?

While a few min won't qualify as a review, I must say the camera is the best among all BB phones ever released. Sharp and color was ok. Focusing not too slow as what was reviewed by others.

Physical keypad will take some time to get use to it. Small buttons and feels quite crammed. Maybe coz I've been so used to touch screen keypads....

Over all, a solid unit as BB is well known for.

Will see if the phone will get some good response here.

That one i'm not sure since I haven't really got a chance to use Priv as a daily driver (no loanee units LOL).

However, from what I've gathered, BlackBerry has at least commit themselves to a monthly upgrade cycle for software and firmware, so I suppose it'll be a good thing.

Next week Priv will launch in Malaysia!
Oh my, can't wait for it. Hope the price is not more than 3.1K.

If Celcom bring it in, I hope they will bundle it with free BlackBerry accessories/phone.
Like they do with Z30 Launch Event 2 years ago. Bought Z30 with plan, FREE Z10.

BlackBerry should not sell it above 3K, that's a big no. If they wanna survive, they should price it competitively, it would still be acceptable if it's priced at like RM 2699 or better if cheaper, at least still could get some attention from the storm of flagships from Sony, Samsung, Huawei, Apple etc.

I seriously hope the price will be reasonable, weak currency is not an excuse if they price it above 3K. I've been waiting for a BlackBerry phone running Android for ages now, and now it's here, hope that they won't ruin it with the pricing.

Hmm...RM 3320 still too pricey. cry.gif

But at least it's near the 3k border lol.

Btw, is this seller reliable? Something's fishy here, it's not the official launch yet and how come they already have ready stock and it even has Brightstar warranty?

At RM3,559? Remind me of my Z10 which I purchased at RM2,300 AP set and found out after one year it was selling at new for RM800.

I guess I'd wait out for this one. Happy with my OPO now.

I bought Z10 also with that kind of price and AP set too. If you think after 1 year this phone will get that price range with new price tag, you are mistaken. BBOS phone drop faster than Android in term of price.

Blackberry price always drops significantly after 2-3 months. and drops further after 6 months. Buy now only if either you are confident you can stick to it for at least 1 year (no matter how good or bad it is), or if you are ready to loss a lot when trying to resell it after few months..

The Celcom plan is out, just not officially on their web yet.

Celcom FIRST Blue (RM45/month) – RM2,768
Celcom FIRST Gold (RM100/month) – RM2,508

Source

Well, I'm definitely buy it with FIRST Gold. Why Celcom do just 2 plan ? At least give more plan to lower the phone price, I don't mind paying higher per month. sweat.gif

That time I post, Celcom pull out, now it's come back again.

Tomorrow will go to The Garden Blue Cube to ask about the pre-order stuff.

The special price RM3388 is for pre-order in 11street only. Not in any Blue Cube. But this only device, no Celcom plan.

Pre-order in Blue Cube comes with plan and more cheaper of course. The difference wit pre-order with plan now is this is guaranteed receive on Tuesday which is their official release.

Quite disappointed only that is the difference. No free-gift or discount whatsoever for pre-order.

Who told you ready stock at BlackBerry or Blue Cube store?
Ready stock only at Facebook (seller from Penang) the link I given 4-5 days ago I think.

If you pre-order at selected store in Blue Cube, for sure you will get at Tuesday at launching date.

Located in Kota Kinabalu, went to 2 blue cube stores and both stores are NOT taking pre-orders, both stores have no idea that they are supposed to take pre-orders and also have no news on when the Priv will arrive.

BlackBerry Malaysia, take note on the indifference of your launch partner.

If I get RM1 for every time I hear nonsense like this, I would have been a billionaire by now. Been hearing such nonsense since 2008/9.

How many Android based companies went down under? (and not to mention non Android based ones)

Nokia went down and got gutted. HP couldn't save Palm. HTC itself is now barely surviving. Sony decided to cut down their smartphone game. Samsung couldn't achieve its targetted sales.

Even as if BlackBerry reached rock bottom 1-2 years ago, it can't go lower, and is now making profits on its handset sales (not including the other divisions such as the M2M, their IOT division, etc).

Such bollocks from you.

champu You can wait if you want. I suggest that you should wait if you're not confident. After all, you cannot take common Android logic into a BlackBerry made phone. E.G: rooting, unlocking bootloader, etc (BlackBerry will never unlock the bootloader)

daedelus Same thing here in Miri. Penang a little bit better, due to exposure, probably. Or they are only setting one place for pre-orders.

Btw, confirmed, no discounted price for pre-order in Blue Cube, just you will get subsidized price for contract with Celcom for 2 years. The discounted price if you pre-ordered it online in 11street, device only.

They do the pre-order in Blue Cube just don't want to hold big stock in their branch. Looks like very small percentage that people pre-ordering Priv. In this branch which is Sunway Blue Cube, only less than 10. sweat.gif

Hope there is Blackberry representative tomorrow in Sunway BC. Who knows they will give free-gift blackberry merchandise laugh.gif

One of the article that misleading potential buyer.

http://www.bbugmy.com/news/news-celcom-blu...-by-blackberry/

If you’re a Celcom subscriber, then you’re in luck! The network carrier is taking pre-orders for the Priv by BlackBerry starting today, but better hurry, pre-orders may close by the 15th of December!

To book your Priv, head over to supporting Blue Cube outlets at Sunway Pyramid in Selangor, Publika and the Gardens in Kuala Lumpur, Elit Avenue Bayan Baru in Penang, and Celcom Centre in Taman Molek, Johor. Pre-order pricing for the Priv should be at a discounted price of RM3,388, while RRP is RM3,599.

*You can check out Celcom’s online website for the new offering but weirdly enough, you can only see the new ad through a mobile browser. Using a computer browser won’t present you the Priv by BlackBerry pre-order.

Maybe this is why not so many pre-order at Blue Cube?

http://www.lowyat.net/2015/86554/blackbery...sia-for-rm3559/

The BlackBerry Priv will be available from 15 December 2015 from 11Street, Celcom, Maxis Enterprise, Tune Talk and other BlackBerry authorised partners at a retail price of RM3,559 (inclusive of GST). Pre orders can be done from today at 11Street, and from 10 December at selected Blue Cube outlets – both pre order promotions will be offering the Priv at a special price of RM3,388 (inclusive of GST).

Nope. They expected to receive it yesterday.
I'm wandering around in Sunway Pyramid to wait for them to call.

IMHO, the cheapest way to get this 'expensive' device is with a subsidized plan from telco. You will be using the plan for the device anyway. If you are a hardcore BB users, I don't think you will change the device soon.

For those on contract, ask your telco if you can be re-contracted and get the device on subsidized price. I felt that its a huge amount of money to 'burn' on a device at RRP. For Celcom, you can trade in your old device and knock-off the price.

Btw, will give my humble review soon =)

If I'm not wrong, u need to back up the messages from the Whatsapp in ur old phone first and then restore it using the Whatsapp installed in ur new phone.

Any hard case (not flip) can be found locally?

Found this at 11street, same case like in Blackberry online shop. But need to wait few days (maybe weeks and maybe need to pay tax too). More expensive than BB Online shop.

Whoa this is a must get. Anyways, can the whatsapp messages be transferred to other phones or within bb10 os only? Can reply messages on the spot from the incoming notification bar like in other bb10 devices?

Also, i wish (and am holding out for, and any chance) they would make one exactly like this, minus the PKB? tongue.gif might reduce the cost but mainly cause i think blackberry's VKB is more than awesome alreadyyyyyy

Aha! Welcome to the club. Be sure to update to latest software for OS and Blackberry apps.
If you check the camera, it's only up to 4:3 and 1:1 for taking picture. After update the camera software, 16:9 will be available. Quite shock at first it's not support the wide 16:9. sweat.gif

I read somewhere on the internet that u have to change network setting from 4g/3g/2g to 4g/3g only.
Your temperature will become much cooler and battery consumption will becomes better.

Bros.. super blackberry fan here.. me been using bb for past 6 years.. bbm with frens got me addicted n never look back.. my main phone is bb classic n 2nd phone is note4 to play games.. the reason i kept using bb as main phone is also because of the battery life tht can last a whole day.. probably not much apps to play with.. and love the hub!!!!

I see a few reviews here that the phone get warm easily..

Bros... i get really tempted to get this priv but scared it wont be as smooth as the classic.. all my frens laugh at me at still using bb when they have change to iphone n android..

How brossss.. any advice?

with BB Priv will make me happy and being loyal since Bold series until Passport SE prior getting Priv rclxms.gif .
I like android due to tonnes of applications which suited for work and play. I ditched iP6 and stick with BB and S6. biggrin.gif
Now only need to pay one time for android app later can instal to other android device thumbup.gif

thus, IMHO, go for priv you will enjoy it. icon_rolleyes.gif

Dude, this is by far the smoothest experience on BlackBerry. Trust me. I am a huge BB fan and I own BB classic. Miles better than the classic. Go get it. You'll never look back.

I love everything about this phone. The fact that this slider is running on android, it brings everything up to a new level. rclxm9.gif

On the left, we have the leather case by Tetded. Here's the link:

On the right, the BB hard shell case that I bought from 11street

Personally I prefer the leather case, but I think the BB case provides better protection?

How sure are you is ori ? Ebay also got 2 prices , 1 is USD40+/- , 1 is USD 19+/- .... Those selling at USD40+/- dare to claim it's 100% ori but not the cheap version , just state it as " silde out shell "

It's a lock set then? Lock to that telco/region only IINM.

Which model is this? Malaysia is STV100-3.

Check the LTE band from US model.
By the way if STV100-1 support MY LTE, then choose it coz it support wireless charging.
While others not.

Since dxomark rank xperia z5 as the best camera smartphone, their reputation also went down south. Thus not sure how reliable and accurate their review on Priv.

anyonw knows how is the Priv on water resistance ? I saw from the torture test a few pages back that the keyboard is rubber sealed ... but apart from that no other reviews touch on this point.

asking because I have sweaty palms , currently using a Sony Z1C (just for the weather proofing) and prior to that an ancient Dopod 838. Hoping to get back to a QWERTY smile.gif

Buying from Singapore would be a better deal if you don't mind the hassle for warranty, if you convert the Singapore price to MYR, it would cost like around RM 3300+ which is cheaper than what we have here.

Or you can find a seller here in LYN, there's one in this topic, but I forgot who it was. He sells for like around RM 3300 as well.

I last checked yesterday - quite few retailers now only selling it S$970-980 which is slightly around rm3k!
I will have a look at it on my next trip there next week
Personally for me Spore is nearer ( 1.5 hours) vs KL (4 hours)

Hi is the Malaysia version (the one from Celcom) already on the latest firmware version, or better still already receive the latest update ota? Just a little concern with the carrier update takes too long to happen, before I take the plunge.

There are no carrier-locked phones in Malaysia lol, any phones that are sold in Malaysia are unlocked. The update comes directly from BlackBerry, and Celcom ain't gonna do crap about it.

You should check out the Blue Cube store at Sunway Pyramid, they might still have available stock.

My priv screen creaking when I touch the bottom left part. This problem is discuss at crackberry but they can claim new one. Can blackberry Malaysia fix this issue? Any have this issue so far?
*
I don't have my priv yet. Still searching around in Kuching. From what I could read from crackberry looks like it could be a common "issue", since it is a slider 2 piece construction... so hopefully it will not too annoying.

I am also curious with the return policy of our telco. Never tried it.

I sent mine one to warranty claim. But unfortunately I can't get one on one swap, need your blackberry centre send to Pinang for troubleshoot. Not same like last time that I can settle on the spot. I need to wait 2 week to settle my case.

There's a blackberry service centre in Penang? It's quite troublesome to send the device to Penang.

U cannot transfer from BB to other platform or vice versa due to the different encryption from each platform. Taken from whatsapp FAQ,

Note: You cannot restore chat history from any other phone type to a BlackBerry 10 smartphone, or from a BlackBerry 10 smartphone to another phone type.

Well, Satugadget currently stated the price as "Call for pricing" instead of RM 3559 that was stated previously.

UPDATE: Called them just now, they said it's out of stock.

Don't think its out of stock due to 'popular' demand.

For some reason I'm not sure why Brightstar is overcharging for a Priv, when other regions can get a Priv far cheaper

I get at one of the bluecube in penang island. Sign the RM45 2 year contract with the device price RM2768.
I will suggest you get blackberry priv. Android give u more apps.
As a android device, i blackberry does make a unique android device. The keyboard a little smaller but i guess learning slowly will get used to it. Another thing about the keyboard,it is a touch pad as well.

Device price and up front payment need to pay plus GST of course. I do installment for this.I choose the cheapest plan contract as the other option not worth. Depend on you want iOS or android device with nice keyboard. I have iPhone too. I feel this device nicer to use as productivity part. I like to type using keyboard. Imagine blackberry is the only smartphones can slide up.

There is this guy claimed he is from Sprint-Cass Pte Ltd and selling the brand new Priv with the price tag at RM1,690. He also claim that they have plenty of stocks and the cheaper price tag is due to they got it from the manufacturer directly.

Accept 50% deposit then the balance will be collected by the courier services upon delivery. (WTF?)

Too good to be true it seems? I wonder if anyone come across this?

I am still go through the whatsapp chatting to find out more. Very fishy.

Yeah. http://www.mudah.my/BlackBerry+Priv-44423074.htm

Called the Sprint-Cass sg number and being informed they had never sell online and they did received some reports from Singapore side as well.

I inform him to escalate this to the relevant authorities before I hang up the phone. blush.gif

why Priv unit price is so steady expensively? I was hoping that price drop after the launch of S7 with Snapdragom 820 chipset. 3k+ for Priv that come with 808 chipset doesn't seems to make sense. faster price drop la !!!

anyone manage to get Blackberry Priv from Celcom?
This morning I went to Celcom asking for Priv plan and they said they are currently out of stock and they already stop selling the Priv for reason that they don't want to buy in stock for sale.

Then followed by saying they will have start Samsung S7E and able to get the device by end of this month.

That clicking sound is normal and seems a lot of users affected by it. I don't mind mine because I'm using a case. Problem solved. laugh.gif
By the way, keep us update about your unit. How long it takes, etc.

I bought from Celcom one day before official launch (pre-order), yup they don't stock Priv.
Dealer don't stock much of Blackberry product. Bad sale since Z30 maybe?

It became a unique phone. When you play with the phone in the public, everyone will look at your phone. The main problem is, cannot bare the overheating !

I thought the overheating issue was gone after several updates since the launch?
Is it still happening ? Cos if that's the case then won't the battery get depleted so fast?

Guess I will get the device from T&L Telecom that's from Hong Kong. Anyone have any experience with them before?

That article was made last December only few weeks after the launch. Today, it has been 4-5months and the Priv has received a lot of updates ever since. Don't own 1, but reading Priv forums, they're saying like after all those updates, their Priv is now behaving...

True, the problems with those reviews are all solely done on initial release of the phones and not much follow up reviews after the updates.

I also read from the forum that Priv's is working very stable after couples of updates.

later i gonna call e-maintenance for the status of my blackberry priv warranty claim status. go travel for one week and no miss call or email or sms. i email them also not reply. seem like blackberry service is provide by 3rd party and i have bad experience with 3rd party repair. usually not up to standard. i gonna sound them if still take their sweet time, premium price tag device i expect premium service too. The gap at left edge quite obvious, seem like quality issue. i read forum in other country mention that after that new batch seem fix the issue. if i get the device not done properly i sure not accepting it until they really repair it to near new or hope they give me replacement.
Sad that this happen.
Should wait for their 2nd android device.

They won't fix it in Malaysia obviously, no spare part for sure. Where's the nearest BB's factory btw? Singapore? Vietnam?
Unlike Samsung MY, 1 day you can get your unit repaired already.

The company only sold 600,000 phones in the fiscal fourth quarter.

Oh Chen, why did you only focus on Android but not the BBOS10. sweat.gif

BBOS10 is quite great operating system. But without much apps is the reason unable to match the market this day. Same thing will happen to windows 10 mobile, struggling due to lack or apps. This the reason they choose to use android platform. But i guess they may be a bit too late.

They make it possible to install android app on their platform, they should focus on that. BBOS10 is a unique OS, hate to see it fall like MeeGo OS (now sailfish OS but without a big company behind them, they will slowly die)

Microsoft is big company, they wont quit like BlackBerry.

Microsoft already threw in the towel wut. Only deluded nokia fans think that Microsoft will bring Nokia to their previous high (which ain't happening and won't happen at all).

If nokia wants to fly back up, they have to seize their own destiny, but then again, their ex-ceo was Stephen 'effin' trojan horse' Elop.

nokia got shafted so bad.

BlackBerry on services side, they've changed in the past 2 years. Their BES offering is more diversified, their security package is more diversified (thanks to the acquisitions). But hardware? Even i feel that their effort on Android front is lacking.

We'll see about their new marshmallow updates, and on the BB10 side, i'm anxiously waiting for the 10.3 updates, and see what is in planned (although they've given some very omnious hints like shutting out the native devs, etc etc)

The hardware division will continue to fall, with only 600k shipped in a quarter.

Apple used to achieve double that figure in a month. It's only matter of time BB part with the hardware division, when the flagship phone is actually fail to meet the expected quota since it was launched.

Yeah, the reason that I'm getting the phone from them is that their price is so much lower than Malaysia price by nearly 1K, which is the actual price in every countries BUT MALAYSIA.

Besides, I read the review that it seems most order will be arrived in 3 - 5 days depending location. So, let's hope by next week I will get the phone then.

Just got my phone at 4pm just now.
Still doing the set up.

A little bit weird for the purchase from TL Telecom, as the box of my phone stated the phone is for "REGIONAL MALAYSIA"... where I remembered read from their page, they mentioned that their unit are supposed to be UK unit.
Even the wall charger given inside the box is 3-pin like Malaysia wall socket. And the date of packaging was on 1st week December 2015.

So, I'm wondering if there is anyway like certain service code to key in to check the usage of the phone?

Please advise.
Thanks

If it is MY set even better, means you might be able to acquire local warranty. No? cool2.gif

Onto the verification, perhaps you can check through the IMEI of your phone. I am not so sure.

Yeah, I hope so.
Just that I didn't see the Brightstar warranty card within so also cannot be sure how they going to verify which warranty to be applied should one need it (touch wood).
So far the phone sure get hottie when doing whole bunch of updates since it is December device. Let's hope the heat issue will be less after getting everything set up.

on side note, does the battery charge indicator edge will dim when it sense total darkness?

I believe that's the beta program that user has to signed up in order to try out the MM update.
However, given that BB has hinted the release of the official will fall on early May, I would rather wait for the official updates. Won't want to take any risk to my daily driver at the moment.

I own iphone & priv, you just can't compare between this two. Some may like it, some don't.

You need to get use to Priv keyboard, typing too fast may result 'mispress' due to small-compact keyboard. Passport is different where the keys are bigger and well built.

For me, Priv is exotic. You hardly find people using it and people wondering too what kind of phone is this. Mostly when I swipe the screen up to reveal the hidden keyboard, people will wowing and ask to play with it.

To keep them wowing, swiping up on the keyboard to fast complete the sentences. laugh.gif

Exotic. Unique. Beautiful.

I saw a review on youtube stating that is is sluggish and laggy, is this true to your experience? But some say it is fine. Since you have tried both, what's your comment on that?

Can share me to link that said sluggish and laggy? I want to see which part they said sluggish/laggy, will try do the same as they did. So far none for my device. Just overheating problem, but that's while I'm on Lollipop. Now I'm on Marshmallow, so far so good. Battery seems improve a lot! But that just less than 1 day use, will see couple of days later.

Maybe the reviewer is US set? Ours is STV100-3, while US is STV100-1. They don't have an overheating problem (maybe few), while ours majority is affected.

I can't deny there will be sluggish/laggy, as this BlackBerry with their own UI. It near Google stock UI, not heavy like touchwiz or HTC Sense. But I don't encounter any of that problems.

For me, I can't live without Android or iOS. That's why I keep both. While I also own BB Passport Silver Edition, it's easily get rid of but sentimental value is there as this is the last BBOS10.

My comment is, you should try the demo until you satisfied. Don't forget though, the demo set is still in Lollipop.

Is the Marshmallow update available directly now? Not sure where I can try a demo unit. Definitely not in telco shops. Since you can't live without both, I will not be able to get an answer whether it can replace the iOS.

He only said buggy apps like slow focus, slow taking picture, etc on the last minutes of the video. I can say this has been fixed on last update via Google Play not via OTA. (same like HTC does). Also this review is last year after 1 month arrived at US market where we officially receive it on December. The updates are on January. Pointless to view this video now.

Marshmallow beta, official arrive will be in May/June the least. It's easy to apply for beta version. Tooks me only 2-3 days to receive the update notification but you must spend at least 10 minutes to go step by step to apply it.

You can try at BlackBerry Low Yat Plaza level 3. Or Celcom Pavilion/Sunway Pyramid.

Yup can't live with both, both are unique (I mean Android & iOS, not specified to any device)

How do we apply for this beta version if you don't mind sharing? I was thinking of swapping my iPhone 6 to Priv but I just afraid I regret it in the end.

But you must own it first. When you signing up, they will ask for Priv serial number which you need to provide along with others information.
Signup here - BlackBerry Beta Zone

After successful signed up, you will received an email.

"
Please follow these steps to join the program & prepare your device:

• Log into your Beta Zone account at http://www.blackberry.com/beta
• Under Eligible Programs, find Android OS by BlackBerry and follow the prompts to join
• Follow the posted instructions to enable diagnostic reporting on your phone (this prepares you for the beta upgrade to Android 6.0)
Only devices that complete this step will receive the beta software update
"

Then you need to wait few days (mine only 1 day), you will receive an email regarding Marshmallow update for Priv.

What is the aspect that you value most on iPhone 6 first?
If camera is one important aspect, then you probably need to keep your iPhone 6.
Not to say Priv's camera is not good, actually it can takes fairly decent photos when in good lighting condition, however when it comes to actual shutter moment and focus, iPhone does the better job here.

And for the reviews that you read or view online, those reviews are quite outdated already, as at the time of their review, there hadn't been much updates to the phone itself.
Trust me, when you first get the phone you will definitely feel that performance on the phone out of the box is not satisfying, but when you installed all of the updates on the Priv, then you will enjoy using the phone like I do.

To me, it is the HUB experience that is useful for me as I need fast peek to all the messages in just one unified inbox and HUB nails it quite good (not up to the standard of HUB on BBOS 10 still).

Secondly, the keyboard, some may like it some don't as the touchscreen keyboard now has really improved, but i still like the feel of typing on physical keyboard as opposed to the touchscreen. With Priv, you get to enjoy the best of both worlds.

Hope this will help in making your decision.

What I valued most on my iPhone 6plus is the batt life. I text and surf fb ig and 9gag really frequently and after using the iPhone 6plus I barely had any issues having to carry a power bank...apart from that, I play lots of games too. I have this game called dawn of Titans. I have a really smooth experience on my 6plus and when my friend played on his note 5, it's sluggish and laggy in terms of graphic and gameplay. I used to own a q5 which runs the bbos 10 and I would say I miss the hub and the keyboard. I finally went to 6plus because I can't stand the available apps provided by bb world. Since this is on an android platform, I thought this would be a good chance for me to enjoy the bb again with the concern of limited app fixed. But my only doubt of switching over remains on performance on running apps and also heat issue which I heard a lot from the videos on YouTube.

If that the case, you need to wait for BlackBerry next flagship then. Since this is the first BlackBerry Android, they kinda slow in fixing bug and stuff. They're still learning to fully optimize them. Heat issue is still there but less compare with Lollipop.

I see. Priv's battery has improved quite a lot since the updates but still I doubt it is on par with iPhone 6Plus yet, i would say it is about 80% to what iPhone 6 Plus can get. Though for my daily usage that has 4 emails with push syncing, 2 hours of on screen time browsing or reading comics, half an hour call etc, I still manage to have about 58% last night around 11PM since i unplugged 530AM. So I would say Priv has fairly enough power for my usage pattern.

As for the mobile gaming, i can't say much as i seldom play mobile game but from my past experience, I would say most of the time for the same apps or games on both platform, iOS version will 99% excel than Android version.
Maybe it is due to OS Optimization or simply because there are too many fragments in Android so the coding on Android is not as optimized as iOS.

Thanks xisan and arbelnox for the feedback. Hope I will not have an impulse purchase and regret it. Maybe an impulse purchase with no regrets. Hahahaha. Waiting for the next bb android flagship will be long to wait as this phone was launched last November.

Does this issue happen all the time? Or just occasionally?
The Edge bar will not show if it detects the lighting in the room is dim or completely dark, while in well lit room, then it will shows the bar. And it won't always be there though, i think it is to prevent the burnt image on the phone.

I got mine form Ebay, brand SIKAI (quite recommended by folks in Crackberry forum there).

Other than that, I think you can find some tempered glass protector in Lelong and lowyat garage sales forum there.

The upcoming 'Hamburg' and 'Rome' are so refined based on the 'latest' leak image, with new Blackberry logo too.

If the USD400(or lower) pricetag is true, I believe BB can really stage a comeback with these new phones, provided the specs are UPDATED. Pfft.

If not mistaken, if buy from T&L telecom. You won't need to pay gst kastam etc. They will cover it since the have office here at KL. You can ask forumer from LG V10 thread, most of them buy from T&L because the phone doesn't launch here officially. By far there are the cheapest. You can ask T&L at their facebook for more details.

just place my order

which tempered glass are you all using?
*
I'm using SIKAI screen protector, bought from ebay.

I would say the naked screen feel and look the best to be honest, but still an extra protection to this expensive gadget is definitely worth the trade-off.

Now i'm waiting for my case to arrive.

I tried to upgrade to Marshmallow and all I could see was just Downloading...
I tap Settings/About phone/System Update
There is no progress bar to show download progress at all ??

Update : download completed n prompted to install the update

My initial 3-4 hours impression:

1. Phone is very warm in use. Especially during charging n app install. I must say is possibly the warmest phone I had used past 6 months
I read MM had reduced the warmness ? Cannot imagine it under Lollipop. 40-45 degree C battery temperature is common. I can really feel the warmness on my palms

2. App install is the slowest amongst all the phones t I had used past 6 months. It is horribly slow . Most app took about 2-3 times longer vs say my other SD808 phone LG V10

3. App loading luckily is quite speedy

4. Tested rear camera briefly - very slight delay in snapping but I deemed still acceptable. Pictures quality above average

5 I really love the hard keyboard n had little problems using it. Well with more usage I will improve

is the Priv Camera worst than all of these below?

Lenovo K3 Note,
Microsoft Lumia 950XL,
Huawei Mate 8 ( 4GB ram, 64GB),
LG V10 (Dualsim 64gb),
One Plus Two

the main reason i got this phone is because of the keyboard n OIS camera, or else i'll just get RN3Pro + BT Keyboard.

weird as most ppl in the hardwarezone sg forums said after MM update the battery life improved and "no more" heating issues; maybe theirs is different model than ours?. upload some sample photos sweat.gif macro n low light , dont trust youtube camera reviews already.

https://youtu.be/9b7Jp834LEE?t=6m13s

does your screen have the clicky issue?

My assessment of camera shot quality : Best to Worst

LG V10 > Lumia 950XL > Mate 8, Priv > One Plus Two > K3 Note

What is screen clicky issue ??

You can check camera shots quality yourself to assess . You should be getting your unit soon. There is no need for me to post shots

it is Tempered Glass, but you don't feel like one when it is applied. I don't know why but my friend who sells phone said it is indeed Glass.

As for the camera, i would say the photo quality is quite good, but the camera experience / performance is the reason where it loses competition to other brand, but still for most of the shots especially still image then it will work very fine. Don't worry about the image quality.

It is normal to get real warming in first few days as the phone is busy downloading and settling down with all sorts of application stuff, i think part of the reason to the warmth is due to the material they used for the back plate, it feels like the heat take longer time to go off.
And yes, the MM update does help in reducing heat quite significantly, at least now the hottest part i mostly feel are on the sides of the phone.

As for the apps installation, i think it is because Blackberry opt to have the higher encryption level on every layer of access to the phone and that's why it takes longer time to get installed. I guess this is the compromise that one have to bear for the extra security the phone offers.

maybe because of the price thats almost as mahal as iphone they expect a better build?
saw some ppl mention that over night about 10% will be drain on lolipop,
i'm glad that BB updates as frequently as RN3P rclxms.gif maybe its because of SD processors only.

This is the one I bought.

Are you buying from TL Telekom? If that's the case, the tracking will only shows when the device reached Malaysia. Usually 3 -4 workings days depends on your location, mine was 7 working days as I'm in Sarawak.

Few days using this Priv and overall I am quite happy with it
I supposed most of the negative reviews were based on earlier firmware and not Marshmallow
On the web reviews are mixed with some even declaring it one of Android worst phone ??
My only grouse is its operating temperature which is warmer by 2-3 degree C vs my other Androids

Indeed. Most of the reviews online that give bad ratings are mostly reviewed based on the initial release of the phones.

While if you have a look to the review of the actual users of this phone as daily drivers, most of them are very happy and satisfied with each updates provided to the phone.

I just hope that BlackBerry can keep up with this updates effort even after the 2 rumored phone are release later this year.

If they can do so, then I can foresee that my next phone will probably be still BlackBerry device.

Loving the keyboard so much, but wish it was 4 rows instead. The trackpad quite useful for scrolling. Only. Problem is the battery life, coming from lenovo P780

And the camera quality not bad too.

You should give it a few days for the system to get settled with the software updated. I usually can get it last for 18 to 24 hours with normal usage, and even stretching to 40+ over hours with minimal usage.

That I would say is good already. Still unhappy with it ?
You cannot compare fairly with your ex Lenovo with a much lower resolution display n lower end Chipset. Lenovo too has a bigger 4000 mah battery

My average SOT is 4-5 hours on a mix of 4g n Wifi

those who have been using the priv, and have used bb10 phones,

I'm wondering if you can attach hub attachments directly from emails?

In BB10, in HUB, when i compose an email, press the attach button, there is a Hub Attachment. Clicking this would take me to ALL attachments i have in my phone. Now note that those attachments don't have to be saved.

Not sure if you get it, but something like this:

1) Receive email with an attachment, say ATTACHMENT 123 from person A (say around 10am)
2) I open the attachment immediately. (doesn't matter the extension file, be it pdf, xls, doc, dwg, or any extension). I don't have to save it to my phone after viewing it.
3) I continue doing whatever I was doing bla bla bla
4) Around 2pm, I compose an email to PERSON B.
5) Click attach, then hub attachments, walaa, all attachments I received are all in one place. then i would just select the ATTACHMENT 123 i received earlier, and attach.
6) Send...

I know some might say just forward the email I received from Person A to Person B. However, there are few issues or concerns:
Number 1 - I don't want Person B to know Person A sent me the attachment
Number 2 - even if I can just forward it, and delete the text from Person A, it's just wasting time with walls of text
Number 3 - During the time gap between receiving from Person A to sending to Person B, my hub may be cluttered with other emails, whatsapp, calls, etc. So less time to scroll around finding the original email from Person A.
Number 4 - I sometimes forgot who sent the original email, so need to see one by one hahaha...

So, all in all, BB10 lets me move around and work efficiently and productively. Can the Priv do this?

All i know is that with the Priv, you need to save the document first right? Then compose, search in file manager for the file where you saved it. What about after Marshmallow update? still cannot attach straight away from Hub Attachments?

Cheapest New AT&T Set BlackBerry Priv in eBay. Price for US$299 not including shipping. But only ship to US. If you have friend/family there or ask someone to buy for you. There are some forummer will help you buy it for a fee.

It's unlocked and STV100-1 which is wireless charging supported.

Best deal so far! Our set is STV100-3, wireless charging not supported and pay premium for it.

True. But I'm wondering if I buy the AT&T sim card on eBay, will it recognize the AT&T sim card and let it update?
So it's like a 50-50 chance but you get the dirt cheap price which is good laugh.gif

True. But I'm wondering if I buy the AT&T sim card on eBay, will it recognize the AT&T sim card and let it update?
So it's like a 50-50 chance but you get the dirt cheap price which is good  laugh.gif

Why not? Lazada, 11street, gemfive are all selling genuine product.
But if you ask me where to buy the Priv, I will say buy it at ebay. New set for US$350-400 but AT&T branded.
4G LTE can be use in Malaysia but you need a way around to get the phone to ship to Malaysia as they only ship to US.

Either your friends & family there or ask the forummer here who do bulk shipping from US to MY for a fee.

Despite from warranty issue, you will get the STV100-1 version which is support wireless charging out of the box.
Ours is STV100-3, no wireless charging supported.

Yes, I saw Crackberry posted Daily Steals (online store in US), selling Priv at $299.99 which is so cheap. But, the main problem will be update eventhough is a unlocked AT&T set .

Again, I am quite suprise Lazada or the supplier manage to sell below than RM2,500.

Want to take or not, 50 - 50 liao...

There is a way to update the unlocked AT&T version. It's a steal.
Of course they can sell below RM2.5K unlike original MY warranty.
This phone from other countries are much cheaper selling compare with here.

If I were you, I would take that deal in eBay and find a way to ship it here rather than pay extra almost 1K.
Now wireless charging is kinda mainstream laugh.gif

Need to pay more because of the battery issues. The other issue is for sure cannot devalue the package to avoid custom. That's why need friends/family to help

Yes, Priv has a non removable battery. Well, ebay, Daily Steals, Lazada and 11street still providing a good price though. We have plenty to have time, and i do hope Blackberry still pending on releasing another android phone.

3 more months will be a year for Priv. I cant wait for their new BBOS10 phone though. Since Android is every month come out with different manufacturers, it lost the exclusiveness. At least that's for me.

Yes PB-T3.
Got it from Garage Sale.
Bought 2 of these as longer powerbank suits me more than bulky wide powerbank.

thanks!! I got thePB-T3 16000mAh and PA-T2 wall charger. Surprisingly both the powerbank and wall charger charge the phone quicker and the phone is not as hot as the bundled charger that came with the phone blink.gif

I never use the given charger as I always use my desktop charger which only 1 plug that charge 6 phones at 1 time.

Even with the latest update, it still warm/hot while charging? BlackBerry still have a lot to catch up .. I wonder their Dtek50 is a good mid range phone if like this.

I am considering buying this phone..I read review online that the performance of this phone can a slackish, sometime..since the Priv received marshmallow update, any improvement on the phone performance? How about the camera of this phone as well?

I think it is still okay to buy Priv, it is still the highest end android phone released by BB as it just come out a DTEK50, DTEK50 is still lower end than Priv, and i guess BB wont come out any new high end model within this year. I just sick with the current android phones made by other manufacturers..they are all the same, just increase ram and better processor. At least Priv is something diff and BB is serious about security.

After MM updates, no lag no burning hot no BS. laugh.gif

The only problem with this Priv is crammed keyboard, always pressing wrong. Not in BBP though.

Hi guys...

Anyone here knows a screen protector (tempered glass preferred) that fits?
I bought this Sikai screen protector from eBay and it does not fit ... applied, the screen protector lifts up after a short while leaving a space between the phone screen and the screen protector ranting.gif

I got my Priv last 2 days at RM2199 + 6% because of EZ-Pay scheme. Updated to Android M on the same day. So far so good.

But I still think BB10 is the best OS.

I'm quite new in Android evironment. I've 7 email account and I think syncing all account make my PRIV power hungry and sometime little bit hot.

Now I manage to adjust or reconfigure to fine tune my PRIV.

On my Z10, I need to recharge after 5-6 hours. (because I'm quite addict to use my phone). With PRIV, It takes up to 8-9 hours. Today it still have 47% power left after 9 hours.

So far so good. So premium. smile.gif

Ya, since BlackBerry is still new in Android platform, there are some bugs like overheat issues. Like browsing for some time will feel the warm rising up. This won't be a problem though in iPhone / Note7 / flagships in other brand.
