1 Melee/Support weapons, highest armor in front and back. Was using a wolverine for a while in this role... thinking of changing.
2 All range (like shadowhawk!) with moderate armor. Usually 1 AC5 for range and the rest medium ranged.
1 Far ranged unit, 1x PPC and LRMs only. Less armor, especialy back, for more heatsinks!
All jump capable.

Among the most success I have with this is finding the enemy then backing up the long range and 1 of the all range. By the time the enemy closes in on the foward position(the melee and 1 all range), the lance will take em down with all 4 at optimum range.

My lance consists of 1 lrm boat, 1 ac/20 and srm short range mech, 1 mech with lasers and ppc, 1 generalist mech all types of weapons, all range.
