Kickstarter Preview, includes interview with Jordan Weisman, Mitch Gitelman, and Mike Mulvihill.
http://www.twitch.tv/ngngtv/v/18197331

Summary:
QUOTE
• THE Alex is doing some of the art. Woohoo!
• They show the Kickstarter campaign video which will be shown tomorrow – it’s pretty much exactly what I hoped it would be: 3025, Skirmish Game, Single Player v AIs, Merc team controlling One Lance. Also includes Mech Bay, Salvage, Mechwarriors (inc. salaries) and looked very much like MW Mercs in that respect. Mercs was my favourite Mech game.
• What little concept art they showed was spot on. As per the recent pictures, it’s all a bit grittier than MWO and that was deliberate because it’s 3025 and the Houses are “being ground down by war”.
• “Stage 1” is funded by them and it’s been in pre-production for a few months with about 8 people.
• If they reach “Stage 4 Funding” they will include PvP Solaris Arenas. No figures yet but you can bet they will hit this.
• Unity 5 Engine = better lighting and better tools for Multiplayer coding. Sounds like they know full well they will hit Stage 4+
• “Quad Mechs are hard” so they are not likely going to be in it. He settled on “Maybe”.
• Combined Arms are one of the first things they want to add. Vehicles definitely at some point but Infantry they can’t commit to.
• Aerotech and Artillery are “in scope”. He later revealed there might a mission with escorting a Long Tom.
• The game is simply called “Battletech”. No subtitles, nothing, just Battletech. “Alpha Strike” is just the Kickstarter marketing.
• No Clans. But if they do another Battletech game they might be in it.
• It will be extensively mod-able but not so much by players. Livery will hopefully come later.
• Hints that Unseen/Reseen can make it into the game due to the new art that’s been done for them in recent times. I reckon some will be in and they will sell some as DLC but I have MWO cynicism burning within me!
• 25 Mechs confirmed at least. I may have misunderstood this part.
• Melee absolutely in because Turn Based makes that easier than RT.
• One of the smaller funding goal stages will be for Legendary Mechs and Mechwarriors.
• It’s a Tactical Combat Game primarily with “rich story”, not vice versa.
• There’s still no Battletech Movie on the horizon but the ex-Disney CEO Michael Eisner still has the rights.
• Voice actors are in the funding goals.
• John Everest is doing the Soundtrack (he’s done all their Shadowrun stuff), not Timothy Seals.
• A lot of the Stretch goals are around the story/expanding to the campaign level.
• Mike Stackpole and Steve Peterson are involved in the writing. Stackpole is going to do a new 3025 eNovella.
• The more they raise the more eNovellas get Stackpole’d written.
• Replayability comes from designing your own Skirmishes and hopefully with Campaigns if they get the funding.
• Bombadil has a grey, “Gandalf” beard.
• The Beef asked how many players can be supported in the PvP. Initially 1v1 but they hope they can scale that up.
• Lance of 4 only. Stage 3 Funding allows you to run a Company but you can only control one Lance per Skirmish. They think controlling more than 4 Mechs would be info overload so would rather optimize around the Lance.
• No Free to Play elements. You buy it and you get it all in the “Premium Single Purchase Price”. They won’t be selling game components but there will be expansions / events to buy.
• Death From Above confirmed!
• The game is full 3D due to the Unity 5 Engine.
• It’s on PC/Mac/Linux not Consoles
• Your Merc Company outfit will be your own creation but you might interact with outfits from the Lore. You might be a Unit within an established Lore unit. Too early to say.

edit:
Shadowrun Returns creator Jordan Weisman raises $250K in one hour for new BattleTech game
QUOTE
The Seattle-based veteran entrepreneur and CEO of Harebrained Schemes is back with another game and this morning launched a Kickstarter campaign for BattleTech, a digital re-make of a tabletop game Weisman originally created 30 years ago that will be developed for PC, Mac, and Linux.

The campaign launched at 10 a.m. PT and has already raised more than $250,000 in less than one hour, which is somewhat astounding but not all that surprising given Harebrained Schemes’ track record on Kickstarter. The Seattle-based studio has already delivered three successful Kickstarter campaigns in the past few years: Shadowrun Returns, which raised $1.8 million, Golem Arcana, which raised $518,000, and Shadowrun: Hong Kong, which raised $1.2 million.

Before founding Harebrained Schemes in 2001, Weisman was known for startups including FASA, Virtual World Entertainment, Wizkids, 42 Entertainment, and Smith & Tinker.

Actually available at 1am (GMT +0800). $50 pledged. $275 is a bit too far fetched for me, and not interested in $125 package. Wish to have physical artbook or something. haiz too bad there is none.

MechWarriors of the Inner Sphere, Harebrained Schemes High Command salutes you!

QUOTE
That was a truly astounding first day of backing and we are awed that in one 24 hour period you came together to unlock:

Combined Arms
Expanded Mission Objectives
Expanded Environments
But you did more than just complete these worthwhile STAGE 1 objectives! Through your valiant efforts, we have achieved STAGE 2 and unlocked the Single Player Story Campaign in a single day!

The Global BattleTech Community has spoken with one voice and affirmed that BattleTech is more than just big stompy robots battling it out. It’s a dynamic, centuries-spanning science fiction setting filled with intrigue and cutthroat politics - a fertile environment for rich storytelling. And thanks to your efforts, the Single Player Story Campaign is a reality. We thank you.

Now, MechWarriors, it’s ONWARD towards our next major objective: STAGE 3 - The Extended Mercenary Campaign!

As you will see, we have added several key targets on our march to STAGE 3.

$1,100,000 - Cinematic Transitions: We'll add short cutscenes for various events in game - such as deploying your forces to the battlefield - and for key moments in the single-player story.
$1,200,000 - Player-Character Origin Stories: In BATTLETECH, you’ll create your own mercenary character to star in the story. If we hit this funding level, you'll be able to choose one of six origin stories for your mercenary commander's career. Are you the only heir of a once noble family that has since fallen from favor? The ******* child of a famous MechWarrior? You decide.
$1,350,000 - Voice Acting: We'll record a cast of talented voice actors to act as your advisers, provide mission briefings, and record battlefield emotes. We’ll also add voice acting to the animatics for important moments in the story.
$1,550,000: 3D MechWarrior Portrait Customization: We'll build a complete 3D portrait customization system for you to customize the look of both your MechWarriors and your own Mercenary commander.
And how do we reach our STAGE 3 objective? Together.

In our first 24 hours, the Global BattleTech Community has come together to complete a series of TEN Backer Missions, earning enough points to unlock TWO Backer Mission Rewards!

A live streaming Twitch Q&A session with Jordan, Mike, and Mitch Friday, October 2 at 10am PDT | 5pm GMT.
A SECOND Michael A. Stackpole e-novella for Backers at the $50 Reward Level and above.
In honor of your Decisive Victory, we now reveal the GBC’s FIRST WEEKLY BONUS CHALLENGE. And who better to announce it, than Jordan Weisman, creator of BattleTech.

In this video, Jordan shares one of his favorite BattleTech Memories. Now we want to hear yours! Using the hashtags #BTmemory and #BATTLETECH, tweet us your memories of playing tabletop with your pals, attending conventions, hanging out in the BattleTech Centers, reading books - whatever makes your fusion engine hum. Tag your BattleTech lovin’ friends - we want to hear their memories too! #BTmemory #BATTLETECH

Its turn-based. But mechcommander director is one of the developer there. Even one of the voice actor from MC2 going to be voice acting in Battletech too. The whole battletech/Mechwarrior community is very heated on this game on first day of Kickstarter. At least most of them, day one of KS is very successful, hope it can reach 2.5m to get multiplayer.

Personally the 3rd stage full stretch goal will be enough for me, wont play too much multiplayer for this game. MechCommander fans come throw money in this. Help for the stretch goal. Haha
